Your mentality is the very reason why developers like Sigil and Flying Labs think it is cool to release games that clearly in early beta stages. If you will pay for test drive open beta keys, you no doubt would support a game based on potential regardless of what state the said game is in.
The point isn't the amount of the beta. The entire point is fileplanet is charging people not only for bandwidth, but INCREASING the price of said bandwidth by $2 just a month just for the Open Beta of Age of Conan. That is border line criminal activity and totally unethical business practices.

Yep, I obviously have issues that I don't want to pay a penny to a piece of crap website who's company openly endorses gold sellers. If that is an issue, I'm glad i have it.
They are just likely to lose one customer over it, it may not be much, but heh, so be it. I'm sure my 2 years of 15.99 a month means little to them as I will NOT buy a MMO I can't 'try' first, I've been burnt too many time to ever do that again, the trust is gone in this one and they likely will never get it back.
And yes, I WAS there for AOs launch and saw first hand how crappy it was, I was a guild leader and half of my guild couldn't even get the game to install due to the flaws. I've also seen the launches of AC2, EQ2, Shadowbane and various other MMOs in my lifetime as I've been online gaming for about 8 years now and for your information, I'm a bit over the average age of a MMORPG gamer, so I am not a kid by any stretch of the imagination and have a nice job, wife and family and excuse me for not wanting to throw away money on something that I deem to be completely worthless and irrelevant to the game just because some marketing ass got $$ in his eyes over it.

a Fileplanet sub is $15 for a quarterly subscription, unless you dig around deep enough to find the hidden $7.90 one month plan.
So you pay that in the hopes that you are one of the lucky 50k to get a key. If not, you're stuck holding an empty bag that you paid for.

World of Warcraft did the same thing! This is not new. There's a freee pvp beta this weekend. You don't have to play the pay to play one! Hell half of the MMO's that have come out in the last few years have been released on store shelves in virtual beta you had to pay $50. World of Warcraft is doing fine, and I wouldn't be surprised if WAR did the same thing too.

i wouldn't blame it on parents, it's just that this is how the world leads the newer generation to believe.
Nope, I'm of the opinion that they CAN charge if they want to, just don't expect me to support their efforts.
I'm not paying Failplanet anything, not a penny. That is for personal reasons and nothing to do with the AoC beta. I simply do not like their business ethics and if that means I can't see the game early, then I won't get the game until I can. It only hurts Funcom in the long run as I'm sure I can find something else to do for a month or two until I can try it, but for every month until that happens, they lose 15.99 a month.
Now, which makes more sense, an open beta where people can see the game and want to buy it, or people waiting until they can see it and losing the revenue inbetween? Again, the choice is theirs to make as my choice is already made.

until you provide the proof, your assumption are not valid, my proof is the fact when you sign up fileplanets premium service it specifically states what you are signing up for and that is the rights to use the no wait servers and exlusive right to demo's, betas etc etc.

now show me somewhere that is says how the world really works and that funcom is paying fileplanet? not just your opinion on it.
I give up....its no wonder why all these developers keep releasing retail-betas and/or charging to test their game. They know most of the consumers are stupid, don't understand what is going on and don't know any better!

Let's do some math so people can see why some of us take issue with Fileplanet's deal with Funcom. Funcom gives fileplanet 50,000 keys. Funcom has 350,000 signed up beta testers still waiting their chance. Fileplanet gets a lot of track regardless of AoC or not.
50,000 on a first come, first serve basis.
$8 subscription fee is minimum these people have to pay for a shot if they dig deep enough for that deal
200,000 people sign up and pay $8 for a shot of a beta key.
100,000 people sign up and pay $15 because they didn't dig for the $8 deal
$1,500,000 + $1,600,000 = $3,100,000
Bandwidth cost to upload 50,000 open beta clients = $3.05 per person $152,500
Yes, I'd say it is fairly obvious the AoC fans are getting screwed over royally by Fileplanet and this open beta. They'll make millions off something that will cost them $152,500 at the most upload costs because they already have their own hardware and would be replacing/using it regardless if they had the AoC open beta or not.
Let say they get 50,000 people that do the $8 deal... bare minimum will be a $400,000 haul for fileplanet. My guess it will be a lot higher than that just because of it being AoC and the amount of fans still waiting their shot from the official forums.

World of Warcraft did the same thing! This is not new. There's a freee pvp beta this weekend. You don't have to play the pay to play one! Hell half of the MMO's that have come out in the last few years have been released on store shelves in virtual beta you had to pay $50. World of Warcraft is doing fine, and I wouldn't be surprised if WAR did the same thing too.

yes so lets PAY to do a COMPANIES job of QA/QC and bug bashing
You do realize fileplanet is the one charging people, not eidos/funcom?
...and you really think Funcom is not getting any of that money! Funcom chose Fileplanet, they could have used many other sites that are free with just as good DL speeds!
...and to someone above that said something about cashing into all the other stuff Fileplanet offers.......hrm about 98% of everything on that site I can get elsewhere on free sites that don't charge me for the DL speeds! Onoes I have to wait a few hrs longer if the speed isn't as fast.....kill me!
no they are not getting the money, you paying for fileplanets subcription for their service that all premium members pay
heh, u seriously don't get how the world works! Fileplanet more than likely is paying Funcom to have exclusive right to host their client DL, and to make up for the costs Fileplanet is charging the consumer to DL the client! Funcom is making money off this, and so is Fileplanet!

i wouldn't blame it on parents, it's just that this is how the world leads the newer generation to believe.

So? I do not understand what the big deal is!

until you provide the proof, your assumption are not valid, my proof is the fact when you sign up fileplanets premium service it specifically states what you are signing up for and that is the rights to use the no wait servers and exlusive right to demo's, betas etc etc.
here's the linky for fileplanets membership benefits.

now show me somewhere that is says how the world really works and that funcom is paying fileplanet? not just your opinion on it.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
