Im not a carebare.. I dont want to have it easy.. I dont want to be wrapped in cotton wool. But thats not to say I think its ok for retards like mercader to gank people that have done nothing wrong. I think it should be more of a reflection of a real society.
I know its just a game but it costs people their subscription and people spend a lot of time and effort to get to where they are.
Would you do that in real life? Kill someone for fun? You know in RL they lock people up for that. Or maybe killing is a bit extreme. So would you burn someone's house down? Or torch someone's car? They have worked hard to get that.. they've put in time and money. They would lock people up for that too. Its called socially unacceptable.
Natttas.. where are you from?!?! Yes society is degrading but it hasnt reached the stage yet where its socially acceptable to burn someones house or torch their car.
If your reason for killing them is not that you like to cause pain but 'for fun'? 'for excitement'? Where is the excitement in ganking some defenceless miner? The excitement of escaping from concord? In that case, why not go and attack an NPC ship?
Im going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the players that gank randomly for the fun of inflicting suffering have something wrong with them. Maybe they were abused or seriously bullied at school or something.
I am carebear and couple days i try mine in jettisons cans. And then a salvager come he then inform corp miner busy too mine with jetison cans and small frigate came. And other came too with hauler and he even did not blink for me as a miner. I had hold my 3rd account too shoot him set a lot over and somehow i still not have figured it out the ore was gone also after replacing it.

someone is confused about "video games" and "reality". What I do ingame has nothing to do with what I do in RL. It's called "roleplay" you should try looking it up...

Saw that little one liner coming. Wrong. This is a game, you are overreacting, calling people 'thugs' for destroying your internet spaceship. Next point, you fail to understand that it is part of the game mechanic for players to be able to blow people up if they want, they take the consequences of that. People should never and will never be allowed to be immune from pvp, you think you love this game, but you want to change the most fundamental aspect of it because you dont like it? You don't like this game you like the idea of a space MMORPG and as no other softer version is out, like many, you play EVE 'on and off', and tend to make up the loud whinging majority, who, being selfish and requiring everything to be made easy and risk free, need to cry until EVERY game on the market tailored for them. I was calling the carebears pathetic, the whingers pathetic, they are unwilling to even try to adapt to survive (not hard in high-sec) for the game they mostly claim to love. You jmwiens are a prime example of that. And in the general pathetic nature of whingers such as yourself you call me a 'thug'. Laughable. Re-read what you posted and get back to me.
saw this gem, had to type something. heh, regardless of what was typed about you (honestly, i never read it) aside from the game itself, your response clearly indicates the type of person you are, have fun, cheers
Tell me what kind of person I am then please internet stranger, I value your opinion so highly -_-.
People say it is a game not real life. I can say the same, it is a game, so what if you lost your internet spaceship? Means nothing. Just don't fly what you can't lose and you will get a new one and be a better player thanks to it.
I have lost countless ship many in dumb ways, makes no differance, it is a game. I signed up for EVE knowing it was open pvp at any time, and adapted.
I mined in low sec, never lost a ship, and I am ratting sec status up solo in 0.0 and only lost one ship because I was being tackled by rats and was scanned down in about 10 seconds.
It is so easy to avoid or minimise the risk in EVE, thats why I got annoyed. If people were constantly being ganked (which does not happen in high sec anyway) without consequences I would be saying it was out of hand.
Lol talk about overreacting its a PvP game after all, and its advertised as such so if you play EvE and complain that you get gonked by 'thugs' in a PvP game then your being a bit silly are you not?

I play EvE. I Love EvE. However all those things are true.
Wow, if this is a representation of the playerbase of EVE, that says a lot. No wonder I stay away from this game. Its worse than WoW...
Depends on what you mean by "Worse". A lot of people play eve for its FFA pvp and high risk. Its a bloodthirsty game played by blood thirsty people. EvE is NOT for everyone. Only certain types of people enjoy it.
It's sad that this one point, is being taken out of context. Yes, it happens, but it isn't like a 23/7 thing. In some of your major hubs, (missions or trade) you may see a couple of people who do it. There are also certain gates that sometimes get camped that connect between the factions that are required to go through, but otherwise, it isn't bad. Ore thief's are more then likely the worse you will see, and there is a plenty of ways to avoid them, or get around their attempts at stealing your ore. It is just sad I guess that a few people who cry about it make it out to seem it is so bad. Gives the game a bad rep when there isn't one needed.
This thread just convinced me not to subscribe to Eve. Too bad there is no other space ship based MMORPGs out there. It would be very nice to have something like Eve but focus more on PvE.
What you mean like WoW in space with tons of NPC's No reason to hold territory, And a market that is completely NPC run [excluding the player made stuff like small rail-guns for 30 million isk because you cant lose your stuff as NPC's are predictable and PvP is at best consensual only].
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
Wow, if this is a representation of the playerbase of EVE, that says a lot. No wonder I stay away from this game. Its worse than WoW...
you're right, it is worse than wow.
why?
because when you talk shit, people blow you up and take your stuff. when you talk shit in wow, people can just talk shit back.
so, by being worse, that actually makes it better.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Re-read what you post and try to see how this crap sounds, you are basically accusing gamers who play a game as intended of being frothing maniacs. In my experience of EVE it is not the pirates or pvpers that are maladjusted its the carebears.
Kill a carebear in game and they talk crap and threaten you IRL they make sexual innuendos about your family or recommended methods of committing suicide all because you blew up their internet spaceship. So which is worse playing a game within its designed mechanics or subjecting somebody to a torrent of threats and abuse? It seems a lot more likely to me that those carebears are the ones with issues separating in game activity with real life.
Currently playing:
EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)
Gravity Rush, Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.
(Waiting for) Metro: Last Light, Company of Heroes II.
Hm, I must be one of the griefers/gankers and generally bad people as well, since I have never felt bad about getting ganked in EVE.
In fact, one of the reasons I started playing and stayed was because it felt exciting, knowing that there is real risk involved towards my character and his possessions. Knowing that if I was not vigilant enough, or skilled enough, I would lose my ship, my cargo, and my clone. I can tell you, undocking for the first time was an adventure, and the first time I saw someone with a skull on their icon, I got a cold sweat for a moment (I thought he was one of them -5.0 sec rating people who can kill at will in high-sec, as I had then understood the security system).
Adventuring into low-sec for the first time was an even bigger thrill, even if I did end up losing my frigate to a random gate camp. And going into nullsec with my corp and our alliance, that was weird... Just getting there was an adventure, let alone the 'training operation' we were going on. Back then jump clones were not out yet, and there were no convenient stations near where I was going to anyways.
To me, PVP is still a thrill, though I rarely indulge. Most often it includes me buying a new ship, but that is all right and well. It is what they are made for, right?
It's not like there's false advertising about EVE, you know? Everyone should know signing up that it is a PVP heavy game, with real loss consequences and permanent death penalty (loss of ship/gear). It says so in the 'about' section on the site. And on the FAQ's on the forums. And on just about every EVE guide and tutorial there is.
Of course, the people who are hardest hit by this are those who consider themselves 'above' all of this. They think "It couldn't happen to me". This sort of thinking is not what you need for survival in EVE. Those who think this way usually get a faceful of Humble Pie. It is not a tasty treat.
Oh, and as to the real world car-burning analogy? Well, if you park your car downtown Baghdad, you shouldn't really be surprised that it got torched. The checkpoints with marines in full battle gear should have given you a clue.
I'm thinking we need a ship-loss tutorial for the New Player Experience tutorials. Something to make it absolutely clear to new players that a ship, undocked, is 'risk investment' and should not considered safe until it is docked to a station again.
to me the pvp didnt bother at first it did but i came to the conclusion it is in deed part of "life" in the game, its going to happen one way or the other, its not a matter of if, but when. i've gotten podded like 4 times in one week. almost became broke, had to get isk infusion to buy stuff back so i can get back to rattiung and mining. to some degree there are some areas that are safe but its all an illusion, someone is always on the skulk, someone is always hunting, i learned this the hard way when ratting 1.5 million isk BS's in 0.0 space and nabbed by a vagabond.
i got past my innate fears, and frustrations of losing myh ship and realized its part of the life in the game. you accept that youll do much better. just keep an eye out or work in fleets when ratting or mining, solo ratting=death in 0.0 space.
my only problem ios the rattingt, and mining is horrendenously boring, laborous. yeah u can take on the market, but that requires hours and hours of ratting or mining. i never rat alone or mine alone. i watch tv and partial afk mine, ( i watch tv while making sure to check every 1-2 minutes.) someone always has my back. if you solo mine, or rat prepare for boring crap. unfortunately its the only direct main way besides the market to make any money.
in a nut shell with this game the best thing i can say despite its down falls. the pvp rocks and is ruthless.once u get out of that financial slump ur set. EVE can be simply described as
"HIGHER THE RISK THE GREATER THE REWARD, or GREATER THE REWARD THE GREATER THE RISK"
as far as the community, you will aslways run into cretons, arseholes those are the pirate4s and gankers lol comes with the terroritory, they rp so cant blame them, they can talk smack and back it up so....getting mad will only get you put in their qoutes lol.
otherwise ther community in eve is one of the friendliest open armed individuals ever had the pleasure to meet. even the gankers are honorable. had a few that alrhoughpodded me where at least respectful or let my pod go, and just took my stuff, saved me a having to buy 40 million worth in implants.i can say thankfully if you get ur ship destoryed u have a good chance for the most part of saving your pod just be quiet and move along lol. makes for interesting encounters to say the least. or just be smarter next time
eve is like the wild, there is survival in numbers. if ur not up to snuff, fleet as much as possible. and ull be okay.
3.4ghz Phenom II X4 965, 8GB PC12800 DDR3 GSKILL, EVGA 560GTX 2GB OC, 640GB HD SATA II, BFG 1000WATT PSU. MSI NF980-G65 TRI-SLI MOBO.
The point is the entire thread is an overreaction, and people need to understand the game.
Overreaction because how anyone can think people who attack another internet spaceship in their internet spaceship are:'thugs', or full of hatred and anger are being ridiculous.
Second it is the core of the game. There is nothing to say that by changing it EVE will suddenly be the new WoW, and it would cause plenty of people to quit, so the risk of changing it would be too great imo.
There are simple ways of avoiding ever fighting in EVE, sure maybe you will be ganked sometimes, but not often if you read about how to avoid it..
A guide to avoiding being ganked in high sec for the very paranoid.
Keep local open above corp and alliance chat, enlarge it so you can see all pilots in system, examine each pilots to see if they are likely to be a pirate/ganker, if they are goonswarm then dock up.
Find out of the way systems to mine in.
Keep an eye open in any intel channels your corp or alliance has.
Stay pre-aligned to enter warp to a station or safespot.
Miner and are very paranoid about losing your hulk? get an alt to attack you and have CONCORD spawn in your belt=insta kill any gankers.
If hauling scout ahead in a shuttle.
You will probably get bored of doing that stuff in high sec as being ganked is not a regular occurance by any means.
If you pvp don't do it in your 10000000billion ISK ship, use a ship you can replace with easy, or in an ideal situation have 5 ship fitted in your hangar. Making money is easy so you can have more spare ships as you progress.
Coming back to EvE after a longer break - i don't recognise my old game anymore. It has degenerated somehow, there is so much hate and anger everywhere. People curse each other in local, 2 years old veterans ganking miners in highsec for no real reason, except for the grief itself. I witnessed today like a rather new player, only some months in game, lost his his first mining barge, which he safed for quite a while, in a 0.5, according to the convo in local, the attacker, a senior eve player, didn't gain anything, he just did it for the laugh. Where has the maturity gone, wasn't this once a game with an average player age of 27 ?? So much hate on the forums, ranting, trolling, so much bitterness. I don't understand, what happened to EvE ? Why all that negative vibes all of a sudden ? Really sad to see what happens here.
You simply fail to see how intricate and detailed the game is. You lack the intelligence to properly connect to this game.
Im not a carebare.. I dont want to have it easy.. I dont want to be wrapped in cotton wool. But thats not to say I think its ok for retards like mercader to gank people that have done nothing wrong. I think it should be more of a reflection of a real society.

To be honest it's your reply that sounds crappy. RL threaths and things that you say carebears do are against the rules and would result in a quick ban if petitioned for harrassment. To say that this is the standard practice of carebears is simply bullshit, you are out of touch, that things happen in your phantasy but not in game.
Your hate against carebears can be explained with jealosy, they have stuff that you will never own, so you think you must ruin their gameplay. And the anger in game is not even because of highsec-griefing itself. It's because it can be done almost for free with current ship prices and the insurance mechanics. Grief others at basically no cost. Usually this is done by 13 year old retards who don't stand a chance in pvp, against ships that are fitted for pvp, so they have to blow up a mining ship which can't shoot back, to have their daily dosis of success and to feel "l33t".
Back to topic: it's not my intention to give the game a bad rep. It's still the best MMO out there, and all that anger would not happen if there wasn't a harsh "death penalty" which adds a lot to the thrill of the game. Only those to who the game means something, will have any emotions about it at all (be it bad or good ones).Other than in many other mmos, in EvE someone can have a certain power over others (very limited, but since they can affect them emotionally they have a certain power) - and it is like in rl - not everyone can handle power.
It's just like someone way above said, the degeneration of society causes a lots of bastards that see their purpose of life to in harming others - and since in real life they are restricted to do so by law and law enforcement, they look for games like eve where they can do just that - harass and grief others for fun, even if they don't gain anything else than that griefing expirience.

I play EvE.

"640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
you're right, it is worse than wow.
why?
because when you talk shit, people blow you up and take your stuff. when you talk shit in wow, people can just talk shit back.
so, by being worse, that actually makes it better.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)
Gravity Rush,
Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.
(Waiting for) Metro: Last Light,
Company of Heroes II.

/sarcasim off.
