I dont know why everyone is bitching about this. CCP has stated several times that griefing new players is a no-no and if you see it happening then you need to petition it. As for empire ganking, its few and far between. Eve is big and the systems that empire gankers hang out in are just a handful compaired to the rest of Eve. Its very easy to stay way from these systems and live your Eve life in peace.
Im not a carebare.. I dont want to have it easy.. I dont want to be wrapped in cotton wool. But thats not to say I think its ok for retards like mercader to gank people that have done nothing wrong. I think it should be more of a reflection of a real society.
I know its just a game but it costs people their subscription and people spend a lot of time and effort to get to where they are.
Would you do that in real life? Kill someone for fun? You know in RL they lock people up for that. Or maybe killing is a bit extreme. So would you burn someone's house down? Or torch someone's car? They have worked hard to get that.. they've put in time and money. They would lock people up for that too. Its called socially unacceptable.
Natttas.. where are you from?!?! Yes society is degrading but it hasnt reached the stage yet where its socially acceptable to burn someones house or torch their car.
If your reason for killing them is not that you like to cause pain but 'for fun'? 'for excitement'? Where is the excitement in ganking some defenceless miner? The excitement of escaping from concord? In that case, why not go and attack an NPC ship?
Im going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the players that gank randomly for the fun of inflicting suffering have something wrong with them. Maybe they were abused or seriously bullied at school or something.
Re-read what you post and try to see how this crap sounds, you are basically accusing gamers who play a game as intended of being frothing maniacs. In my experience of EVE it is not the pirates or pvpers that are maladjusted its the carebears.
Kill a carebear in game and they talk crap and threaten you IRL they make sexual innuendos about your family or recommended methods of committing suicide all because you blew up their internet spaceship. So which is worse playing a game within its designed mechanics or subjecting somebody to a torrent of threats and abuse? It seems a lot more likely to me that those carebears are the ones with issues separating in game activity with real life.
To be honest it's your reply that sounds crappy. RL threaths and things that you say carebears do are against the rules and would result in a quick ban if petitioned for harrassment. To say that this is the standard practice of carebears is simply bullshit, you are out of touch, that things happen in your phantasy but not in game.
Your hate against carebears can be explained with jealosy, they have stuff that you will never own, so you think you must ruin their gameplay. And the anger in game is not even because of highsec-griefing itself. It's because it can be done almost for free with current ship prices and the insurance mechanics. Grief others at basically no cost. Usually this is done by 13 year old retards who don't stand a chance in pvp, against ships that are fitted for pvp, so they have to blow up a mining ship which can't shoot back, to have their daily dosis of success and to feel "l33t".
Back to topic: it's not my intention to give the game a bad rep. It's still the best MMO out there, and all that anger would not happen if there wasn't a harsh "death penalty" which adds a lot to the thrill of the game. Only those to who the game means something, will have any emotions about it at all (be it bad or good ones).Other than in many other mmos, in EvE someone can have a certain power over others (very limited, but since they can affect them emotionally they have a certain power) - and it is like in rl - not everyone can handle power.
It's just like someone way above said, the degeneration of society causes a lots of bastards that see their purpose of life to in harming others - and since in real life they are restricted to do so by law and law enforcement, they look for games like eve where they can do just that - harass and grief others for fun, even if they don't gain anything else than that griefing expirience.
Posting assumptions is never a good idea, I live in 0.0 and 99% of my fights are against pvp fitted ships, as for stuff I would never own I have had and thrown away most of the stuff carebears treasure as well as supplying them with their dream faction mods for their CNRs, and your reference to the value of E-peen items reveals you to be a carebear yourself and you persist in being unable to separate activities in game from real life as you are adamant that people who kill pixels are wrong in the head IRL.
Further more your smack directed at me illustrates my point that the carebears are the ones full of anger and hatred probably born out of inadequacy in game because they feel their E-peen doesn't size up and they are unable to see that E-peen does not matter.
And as for being "out of touch" I'm not the one that just posted on these forums going "OMFG there is unconsentual pvp in EVE"

Wow... It's always fun to watch how quickly these conversations degrade to, If you don't like it, you don't get it and must be stupid. Some people like pvp, others don't, but all the anger in here really does prove the point.
Dude I couldn't agree more and I do genuinley respect other playstyles but the carebears are continually calling people sociopaths because of what happens in a game because they cannot separate their internet spaceships from RL.

This thread is apparently torn between two sides: the "it's just a game, play for fun or GTFO" crowd and the "Internet bullying is not cool" crowd.
They both have valid arguments.
Carebears say, "It's too harsh, the game has gone downhill; it's not fun anymore."
Counter: "People still play it because it's fun for them. In your opinion EVE may have degraded, but others enjoy it just the same. Things change, so adapt or quit. If you don't like the way the game is, then just leave and stop complaining."
Basis of counter: the individual being countered is assumed to be a carebear / newbie or have only a few months or less of total skill and play-time. The countering individual has a multi-year veteran or a relatively new account and enjoys the way the game is going. They wish to continue doing what they enjoy.
Pirates say, "It's just a game, stop whining. I adapted, so if you can't then GTFO."
Counter: "Bullying is bullying whether it's in reality or on the internet, and doing so in a community-based game is just as negative as in real life. After playing the game for a long while and finally getting enough money for something cool... only to have all that effort lost in an instant by some malicious players is very troubling. The loss is a great time investment when you gank and exploit the rules. It is a big deal."
Basis of counter: the Individual being countered is assumed to be notorious pirate who likes to grief players in high-security space and insult people in chat. The countering individual is a multi-year veteran who enjoyed the game more before rules were changed / exploited. They wish to preserve their investment.
One side wants to play for fun and is detached from anything negative that goes on in the game (playing it like a game). The other side sees it as a digital world where time investment and social interaction means as much as it does in reality (living it like an alternate reality).
They're opposite and equally correct.
So pick sides and bark and piss at each other if you must, but you know it will never end.
Ky. I disagree, Eve has gotten far more brutal of late, I have to agree with the OP. And, yes, you can check me out ingame, I'm still playing, and, a 4 year player. But, as I said, the game has become far more brutal, 2 years ago, you had a few hundred ore thiefs, while today, the number of loot/salvage/ore thieves has boomed to a few thousand, not only that, the number of smacktards has also increased. People have certainly taken some of thier darkest mindsets into the game, I know from a conversation last night alone that about 6 or 7 were ganging up on 1 player, all because his "gear' wasn't adequate to play Eve. I know of even 1 Corp. that has actually called a few 'Girl' gamers whores, and bitches, to get off Eve and back into the kitchen and bedrooms for thier men. So, just from those few snippets, I've seen the lack of mannerism has indeed slipped in eve, no wonder the Devs/GMs have even taken a few liberties themselves. And, as for just saying its the Goonswarms mindset that, its fun to grief the new players, or, 'Carebears', trust me, its all the big alliances that are doing, all because they feel its Thier game, and, that ppl must play it the way they want you to play it
Well, I've only been playing for a little less than a year, so perhaps I have no frame of reference. I know those things happen in EVE, I just haven't experienced them to any great degree. Luck? Perhaps, or maybe I'm just a little smarter than the "average bear".
As for all the major alliances griefing,. again thats not something I've run into. I've been a member of FREGE, IVC, IRON, and now IRC and none of them exhibited that sort of behavior. (though I've flown with Goons as part of an allied fleet and its can be a challenging situation)
I don't doubt that many corps are like that, I'm just saying you can easily avoid them if you try a bit.

True, and yes I play WoW again, I like many things in EvE but I also dislike alot of things, like the boring combat system and no avatars, that is why I quit again.
But there is promising stuff on the horizon, like the Ambulation project and the new Factions, these new factions will make the game closer to an RvR game ( Realm vs Realm like DAoC, which I loved, opposed to Guild vs Guild )
However the progression system handicaps new players, there should be partial progression thru killing npc's and players next to the time based progression imho.

Coming back to EvE after a longer break - i don't recognise my old game anymore. It has degenerated somehow, there is so much hate and anger everywhere. People curse each other in local, 2 years old veterans ganking miners in highsec for no real reason, except for the grief itself. I witnessed today like a rather new player, only some months in game, lost his his first mining barge, which he safed for quite a while, in a 0.5, according to the convo in local, the attacker, a senior eve player, didn't gain anything, he just did it for the laugh. Where has the maturity gone, wasn't this once a game with an average player age of 27 ?? So much hate on the forums, ranting, trolling, so much bitterness. I don't understand, what happened to EvE ? Why all that negative vibes all of a sudden ? Really sad to see what happens here.
i joined the game 4 years ago and i did the same thing back then as i did like 7 months ago when i quit
i could fly anything and had a huge bounty on my head >=) was a fun game but the ganking and griefing tho great fun and laughs it got boring cause it was so hard for me to die lol , i just quit
Lol some of these hate filled carebear replies . Chaps you are way off the mark here, we arent the mentally challended teenagers that you beleive us to be. The average eve player is over 30 years old. I myself am almost 30 (mid life crises ). I am a really nice guy IRL never get in fights, usually polite etc.
You forget 1 thing: ITS A GAME lol just because we blow up defensless ships for fun doesnt mean we are ass hats irl please learn to seperate rl from game life. Personally I blow up ships for shits and gigglesI like the pretty explosions and its like christmass when you loot the wreck cos you never know what you going to find.
So dear carebears: Learn to accept your loss like a man move on and enjoy the game (ive been blown countless times haha)

??????? there is ????????
You see skills are just that skills but to use them and actually have disposable ships modules etc to lose in PvP you need cash. Killing NPC's gives you cash and the modules from dead NPC's and players can be sold for more cash and the wrecks can be salvaged for valuable rig components.

As a proud carebear I am disappointed to see some people getting so worked up about this game.
It's hardly surprising that a game like EVE will be populated by a good number of griefers and I really cannot blame them for playing the game they want to, isn't that the whole point of a game like EVE. If you cannot accept the occasional gank then you just should not play games with open PVP.
It's like playing football and then complaining that you get tackled.

And carebears try to change the rules of the game to better fit there player-style by making multiple threads that are there to Expose an 'Issue' or 'Exploit' of the game mechanics.
95% of the time its just a thinly disguised attempt to make the game easier like having the autopilot warp to within 0km of a gate instead of 15km. Tho sometimes they do come up with the odd good idea that is sometimes implemented by the Devs.
For example in the old days of mining the favorite [and still is] methods of mining is to have several miners around one or 2 cargo cans filling them up while a couple of guards discourage can looters coming to steal the ore while a couple of guys with haulers empty the can and deliver the ore to a friendly station for later processing. The problem began when miners found that while the large cargo cans were big they were not big enough most times as the cans got filled before the ore haulers got there.
So to get around this they used the jettison cans which have an Infinite cargo room and lasted 15 minutes before they popped [the original use was that when a NPC or Pc player got killed all the loot was put in such a can where the ship died].
Of course what this meant was that Empire players in high security zones where they didn't have to worry about Player pirates and gank squads could effectively mine forever then get a hauler to carry the ore home. Good money except that soon you got 'Salvagers' in haulers fitted for speed taking the ore from such cans whenever they were found.
So the carebears whined about this saying it wasnt fare that they couldn't shoot back at the thieves as it was stealing as the ore was there. But the 'Scavenger' often replied by saying that jet cans are there for the stuff you don't want so if you dump the ore in space it belongs to no-one which is why jet cans are not Password protected.
After a while the devs finally gave in to the constant whining [so it seemed] and introduced a can flagging system where if someone took stuff from your jet can for the next 15 minutes you and the thief had kill-rights on that person. the forums were full of carebears rejoicing saying YEA now i have a reason to fit heavy combat drones now etc etc.
Of course it wasnt long before they learnt that CCP's apparent cave in had a double edge when a few days after the change carebears started crying about a new 'Exploit' where a hauler would steal the ore then quickly fly home to get a battleship or some other such PvP ship then he would immediately fly back and kill the miners ship [you cant pod kill in this can flagging system].
So overall it was a good change that changed a system to make it more fare overall.

Your definition of "fare" is awkward and your perception of fairness is beyond warped.
So it would be okay to you if I went to court and complained about my friends being arrested for theft (which they actually did commit), and demanded that they should be able to legally kill those whom they stole from as well?
Sounds like a fun law, the kind you'd enjoy.
If it gets passed, your place will be the first I'll visit.
Anyway, EVE is just a game so I should not bring real life into the picture, right? WRONG. EVE is a time investment, like many things in life. Being punished for being stolen from is a ridiculous game mechanic, and those who enjoy it have never been on the receiving end or they would agree.

Oh here we go again using real world stuff to 'prove' a point.
If someone tries to steal your can either prevent it or kill him or do nothing. It isn't exactly rocket science.

People who have their cans flipped and die because of stupidity deserve it, the can flipper used tactics and preparation and knowledge of game mechanics to achieve his goals the stupid miner did not. Before I moved to 0.0 I waged a small personal war with high sec pirates and used traps and bait and assistance from corp mates to kill the ore thrives and as well as mining we got a large number of pvp kills, there was also a player who combat fit his hulk and went around killing ore thieves and had massive success.
In EVE you must look after yourself because the game mechanics don't do it for you.

Really sad to see what happens here.
because of the way the game mechanics are, no one will even gang up any more unless they know you. because you can just gank them. its stupid, i quit playing.

it's at this time i'd like to make a comparison.
remember doctor evil and his son, scott evil (from austin powers)?
dr. evil went on a tirade about how scott was the diet cola of evil.
now let's go with that but use wow and eve.
in wow, you can group with random strangers and, worst case, they can fear a mob into a large group of mobs and recall out, laughing at you, knowing you'll die from the backlash. big whoop, you just lost a few minutes of gaming time and took a wittle bit of repairable damage (on equipment that will never fall apart, you can ALWAYS repair it), with no possibility of you being looted at all --- scott evil.
in eve, you can gank someone and destroy their ship, loot whatever is leftover, and possibly even pod them. --- a competent dr. evil.

If carebears want to make endless amounts of ISK in empire risk should exist. If I could be arsed getting sec status up I would go to Empire and try to use the suicide gank technique to get hulk pilots to pay ransom or go pop if they turn on their engines to align. What goonswarm are doing is fine. Miners could easily avoid it but they don't have much idea of how to as they don't play in low sec regions or 0.0 where those precautions are required. Add to that even if I was to say.. Set goon standings to -10 and just watch local for them coming into your system, keep pre-aligned to a safespot or station, maybe go so far as to have an alt commit a criminal act in your belt to get CONCORD to sit there for a while as your security. No one or not many would pay any attention as they all think their corner of high sec is safe until they get popped...not having read the forum posts giving details on how to avoid a gank some either take the advice or cry. The guys who cry need to think about playing a different MMORPG, because EVE is fine as it is. And tbh my view on piracy is that we need to move into high sec. An abundance of targets in that area, no reason why pirate corps cannot evolve... Most high sec corps have lax security on entrance, it would be so easy for a couple of guys to infiltrate, and either close the corp through POS theft or just war dec and force 'protection' money to be paid or close the corp down by making it impossible for them to continue. Could extend that to just infiltrating and hitting mining ops etc etc. I predict a worse future for carebears tbh.
out of curiousity, since i've seen it mentioned a couple of times already -- how do you guys KNOW it's goonies and not just a bunch of r-tard pubbies?

It is a game ffs. Why shouldn't people destroy your ship if they are bored and pod you? Why not, what is so wrong with that, people losing their precious digital ships and crying like brats because they were too stupid to take precautions which would stop that, those peopl should not play this game And you talk uttter rubbish about WoW servers, pvp servers have plenty of people on them, the majority of them were full and most needed server transfers or creation of new servers which themselves are now full. Simple fact is EVE is a game which is pvp, anywhere anytime, there are consequences in high sec, but if the carebear population are too thick to take precaution (And I mean very stupid, because it is not hard it is common sense), then they may die. People coming on to the forums demanding the game change to suit them should go elsewhere, there are plenty of games offering no-risk. 'cruel thugs' grow up, have you heard yourself? It is a game get over it. If you are so stubborn as to not accept the game you say you love, and not to get some common sense to avoid being ganked in high sec, then you should not play it. And if you are ganked in your uber battleship whil ratting by bored pirates? You have no money for a new ship? Sympathy? No, you shouldn't (goes for everyone), be flying in a ship you cannot replace, learn the hard way. The majority of whiners are just pathetic individuals who want everything made nice and easy and risk free. I can reflect that on society as a whole tbh.
where the mistake was made, is that someone quoted wow statistics.
look at the stats ccp put out -- the majority of players DO reside in high sec.
read that, go to eve's site, look it up -- the majority of eve players play in high sec.
so everything you posted is your (incorrect) opinion. how can an opinion be incorrect? when facts show that the opinion is WRONG. why would the pvpers be in high sec? well, they're either weaklings, or cowards, or just straight up r-tards. "oh i don't want to be in 0.0 blob warfare". too bad i've been in 0.0 corps that did a LOT of pvp, and never once did the stupidity that is blob/pos bordeom. so, now that we've quashed that fallacy... what type of pvpers does that leave us with in high sec? oh yeah, cowards and weaklings.
speaking of growing up and getting over it -- take your own advice.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Saw that little one liner coming. Wrong. This is a game, you are overreacting, calling people 'thugs' for destroying your internet spaceship. Next point, you fail to understand that it is part of the game mechanic for players to be able to blow people up if they want, they take the consequences of that. People should never and will never be allowed to be immune from pvp, you think you love this game, but you want to change the most fundamental aspect of it because you dont like it? You don't like this game you like the idea of a space MMORPG and as no other softer version is out, like many, you play EVE 'on and off', and tend to make up the loud whinging majority, who, being selfish and requiring everything to be made easy and risk free, need to cry until EVERY game on the market tailored for them. I was calling the carebears pathetic, the whingers pathetic, they are unwilling to even try to adapt to survive (not hard in high-sec) for the game they mostly claim to love. You jmwiens are a prime example of that. And in the general pathetic nature of whingers such as yourself you call me a 'thug'. Laughable. Re-read what you posted and get back to me.
what's funny is that the pvp in eve is incredibly broken. no? why did the devs introduce heat? why are the devs frantically trying to fix pvp every new update?
because, according to the devs, pvp is broken.
stop whining already. thanks.

In fact there are 108 pvp/RP pvp realms out of 226. Therefore there are 10 more PVE realms. Please get your facts straight.
Actually there are 220 PvP/RP Servers and 196 PvE/RP servers across the EU and US combined, so i'd say WTFPWND
But yah it seems in Europe there are quite a bit more PvP'rs and in the US there are a bit more PvE'rs, so you US people are carebears

However the progression system handicaps new players, there should be partial progression thru killing npc's and players next to the time based progression imho.

i could fly anything and had a huge bounty on my head >=) was a fun game but the ganking and griefing tho great fun and laughs it got boring cause it was so hard for me to die lol , i just quit
Lol some of these hate filled carebear replies . Chaps you are way off the mark here, we arent the mentally challended teenagers that you beleive us to be.

??????? there is ????????Greetz

In my view you are not a carebear you are an industrialist and that's just as valid a play style as piracy, the carebears are the ones who do cry and whine and flame about people playing one of the games intended play styles.

Currently playing:
EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)
Gravity Rush,
Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.
(Waiting for) Metro: Last Light,
Company of Heroes II.
because of the way the game mechanics are, no one will even gang up any more unless they know you. because you can just gank them. its stupid, i quit playing.

it's at this time i'd like to make a comparison.
remember doctor evil and his son, scott evil (from austin powers)?
dr. evil went on a tirade about how scott was the diet cola of evil.
now let's go with that but use wow and eve.
in wow, you can group with random strangers and, worst case, they can fear a mob into a large group of mobs and recall out, laughing at you, knowing you'll die from the backlash. big whoop, you just lost a few minutes of gaming time and took a wittle bit of repairable damage (on equipment that will never fall apart, you can ALWAYS repair it), with no possibility of you being looted at all --- scott evil.
in eve, you can gank someone and destroy their ship, loot whatever is leftover, and possibly even pod them. --- a competent dr. evil.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
out of curiousity, since i've seen it mentioned a couple of times already -- how do you guys KNOW it's goonies and not just a bunch of r-tard pubbies?

where the mistake was made, is that someone quoted wow statistics.
look at the stats ccp put out -- the majority of players DO reside in high sec.
read that, go to eve's site, look it up -- the majority of eve players play in high sec.
so everything you posted is your (incorrect) opinion. how can an opinion be incorrect? when facts show that the opinion is WRONG. why would the pvpers be in high sec? well, they're either weaklings, or cowards, or just straight up r-tards. "oh i don't want to be in 0.0 blob warfare". too bad i've been in 0.0 corps that did a LOT of pvp, and never once did the stupidity that is blob/pos bordeom. so, now that we've quashed that fallacy... what type of pvpers does that leave us with in high sec? oh yeah, cowards and weaklings.
speaking of growing up and getting over it -- take your own advice.

what's funny is that the pvp in eve is incredibly broken. no? why did the devs introduce heat? why are the devs frantically trying to fix pvp every new update?
because, according to the devs, pvp is broken.
stop whining already. thanks.
