The combat, while a bit mindless, was incredibly fun. It reminded me of the intense feeling I got from geometry wars: a mindless task that was just fun.
I would have preferred a skill based system, for what its worth, but I'm stoked for killing people in AoC nonetheless.
The ultimate solution to every problem: more space marines.
I'm just going to donate my 2 cents. The combat, while a bit mindless, was incredibly fun. It reminded me of the intense feeling I got from geometry wars: a mindless task that was just fun. there are skilled based stuff in aoc combat you just didn't use em :P
The combat system is somewhat unique it doesn't eliminate the typical MMO button mash but it does put a little bit different spin on it. I think these games kind of shoot themselves in the foot a bit with all the overhype they put out about how the combat is going to be some amazing totally new concept that has never been concieved of.
People that are harcore bashing this I have to assume that you have played in the closed beta because it's really hard to judge much from this extremely limited pvp minigame deal. It's like if they let you play wow but only let you play wsg at lvl 19 or something. What I've seen is pretty much just enough to keep me interested but it would be hard for me to say if the game is really any good or not just from this weekend. I think they should have given out alot more keys because with so little too do they could have gotten alot more people involved. They have only had the one server up the whole time and its been at low every time ive logged in.
post history tells me everything I need to know. AoC's combat is nothing like WoW's.
Thank god for that. It's gotten to be that I'd rather play with a thumb tack and a paper cup than play WoW lately. I don't really care how "amazingomfgroflinnovative" AoC is, I just want a change of pace.
So I quit and went to play something else. Havent touched it since. Fair enough, its entirely possible this game just isn't for me.
They Real Question for me is what games do you play?
Im Extremely curious.
MMO's or non-mmos? Currently playing or have played in the past?
I would say I play a wide variety of both types, but currently not subscribed to anything and currently just playing some older games I bought but never quite finished.
MMO's I've played and enjoyed for a time: UO, CoH, Planetside, FFXI, DAoC, SWG, DDO, GW, WoW, LOTRO, PoTBS
SP/MP : Oblivion, BioShock, Call of Duty 4, Battlefield series, Half life, Civilization, Simcity, Neverwinter Nights, Medieval 2 Total War, Planescape: Torment, Console RPG's
I'm sure there are some I've missed but those are the ones that stick out on my game shelf.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

the combat is hardcore, alot of ppl just mash the buttons but thats not how u do it, if u time the attacks right u can attack faster.
