First off - sorry about all the spelling errors - Something came up right after I finished this post so I had to click "post message" and leave in a hurry. Few points I picked up on. It seems to me players think this is an old version of the game. My understanding after reading the gamespot info and interviews is that this is the gold version of the game. That doesn't mean its the final client but the final compression of the actual data build. Considering the size of the install Im pretty sure this is the case.
So what your saying is that they are releasing a game of PvP mini games?
No it is not the final build, and contrary to what some people say game has Spellweaving and some other stuff that werent introduced and that was OFFICIALLY stated by a developer on Gamespot forums.
They have already said sieging and spell weaving will be in at launch. I love how many people love to spew complete horse crap and pretend like they are the foremost authority on the state of the game, yet they haven't read any the of developers posts. The rest of your comments about realm PvP is pure opinion and honestly makes you come off sounding as a shrill for WoW / WAR. The amount of disinformation by fans of rival games being spewed here is hilarious. Are you really threatened this much by a game that is finally breaking the WoW clone model that you have to come here and try to do damage control?
i approve of this post
And I approve of this approval...
AoC will be an MMO lifesaver...we NEED an MMO to be different or else the staleness of the MMO genre will cause a quick death...everyone should buy the game to support new ideas and new possibilities, or else continue to wallow in the WoW mire of stare and hit your hotkey as you kill another 10x for that stupid quest gameplay!

I must have misunderstood somthing about this comment from the leading developer then
We are working hard on the features we haven't shown off in beta, features we have held back on purpose to have some new revelations at launch. Among these are spellweaving, massive PVP, and DirectX 10 [graphics]. In addition to this, the classes are getting their final overhauls before launch.
Again -based on the size of the PVP weekend client it had alot more than just the PVP minigame compact into it. Acording to the timetable the Gold version should be out now for burning and distrebution for Pre-order. So I would say with 99% certainty that the huge package we downloaded was the gold version. The dev was talking about 15 gb gold edition if I remember correctly.

Been saying it for ages now. Shame the fanbois cant see past their own arses.
He is talking about the closed general beta, not the PvP event.
For the love of sweet mighty zeus, none of that is in Genral or any other magical game build, or fantasy build you think they have. Spellweaving and massive pvp will come 2-3 months after launch.
Everyone should buy games that come out with polished content of new ideas. Buying the ideas will not make for a good gaming experience. There are many good ideas in AOC - but they need to be put into practical, enjoyable, longterm MMO game.
We are custimors buying finished products. We are not inverstors buying ideas. We have to start to treat the gaming enviroment like any other buisness enviroment. We dont go out to the store and buy milk that is still in the cow. Or even still as gras that the cow hasn't eaten yet.
kinda funny how these are almost all the same things we were arguing about before Vanguard came out and who was right in the end?
In vanguard guilds couldn't build their own cities, and siege fortresses and such.
Vanguard wasn't a pvp game at all. So I don't know how you can compare them
I know you are here just to fight and look like some kinda bad ass hardcore type with the key to ultimate knowledge, but I am gonna try and talk to you in an adult manner.
So your saying Aoc is a pvp game??
I think most here would recognise PvP as one of the core parts of AoC's master plan. If that makes it a 'PvP game' , then so be it.
I personally am playing as much for the PvE game and all that it offers.
lol how disappointed you shall be.
Why dissapointed?
I think most by now are fully aware that PvP for the month or so will be in the form of mini games and that BK PvP will follow soon.
I for one don't mind that. Who needs BK PvP to be in when noone will be in a position to even start thinking about building their battle keeps for a good while, and lets be honest Battle Keeps are the only real objective as far as I can see in BK PvP, so until we can build them theres no point in BK PvP even being there.
Instead of missing something you won't even be in a position to use at launch, maybe make the time to learn PvP (in the mini games), get your guild trained in how to fight as a team, build a rep, learn the world, explore the lore, build your guild towns, craft, gather resources... In other words... get ready for the land rush.
With no-one ready to build keeps, BK PvP has no objective or point yet, so a delay in implementing it just dosent matter at launch.
funny how people have complained so much about wows not real pvp and its instanced, yet funcom do exactly the same thing and its next gem pvp rofl.
I have never complained about anything to do with WoW's PvP, so I'm not gonna get into a debate about it vs AoC's effort.
I am not here to represent 'people' (whoever they are...)
FFA will be huge mindless grifing galore, ate least in wow its not FFA and it makes sense because its 2 opposing factions and it fitted in with the story line. In this its just mindless. Funcom knew many months ago their pvp systems didn't work, so they thought what can we do to cover it up, oh yes lets put a FFA server in.
this whole statement isnt making much sense to me, so if you could clarify I would be grateful.
Why are you so concerned about FFA PvP in the grand picture? What makes you think those server's ruleset at launch will make this game the fail you obviously want it to be?
Sieging and fortresses will not be in at launch,
Yes, we have already covered this.
same with blood money and drunken brawling,
Patches will catch them soon enough. I am more concerned that they get the core mechanics right and work on trimmings later. As long as they are patched in and not charged as extra content I have no issues with them coming later.
There is plenty to keep me going until they do so.
they have totally minimised the pvp to FFA server and pvp instanced games,
Yes, for the time.
But, like I have said, it wasnt like you was gonna run out and build a BK keep at level 20 anyhow right?
heaven knows what PvP WILL BE LIKE in BK.
Why assume the worst then?
Funny how none remembers bloody money or drunken brwaling, very selective memory peopel have here.
We are talking about that again?
So much for the next all conquering pvp game. Mark my words the FFA servers will die very very fast and the population will be very low.
Nah, I won't mark your words if thats ok with you? You seem to have a lot of anger and need for this game to fail that seems to be robbing your posts of any objectivity. I would prefer to take everything you say with a huge dose of salt.
He is talking about the closed general beta, not the PvP event.

Really?

We are doing some balance focused only on PVP now, something I prefer doing after the PVE aspects have been more or less stabilized.
So, we can either assume Gaute is telling the truth or lying....which is it...
Lets see...next quote..
Quote: I played with spellweaving the other day, and I must say: It is a very scary experience. My necromancer character had dark matter and skulls growing out of the ground everywhere around her, and gradually my powers changed. Spells that normally were applied to only a single target started spreading out and damaging huge belts of opponents in a cascading madness. It's a truly unique feature I am very excited about.
Weird...Should I believe YOU or the Dev?...decisions, decisions

Where exactly did I say that these are in the general beta? Please don't put words on my mouth. And do keep your assumptions for yourself. You assume the things that are not available won't be available at launch. You may be right, but you also may be wrong. It's just a prediction and nothing more than that.
The OP mistook what the developer said about features missing from the PvP event as features missing from the GB. Some are missing from both. The issues he described and I commented on may have been in the PvP even but are not ... this is pointless. Only the build number can clarify this.
On the spelling point - don't sweat it dude. I don't understand why people flame spelling and grammar on mmo sites. I am an English teacher and find that that 90 percent of native speakers don't understand English grammar lol. Making mistakes is fine, so long as your basic message is understood.
Anyway, this isn't a forum for English so peace out.

p.s Do you know why this sentence is wrong:
Kevin didn't like John smoking in the bathroom.
Now, if you cannot identify and explain why this sentence is incorrect then you have no cause to act high and mighty with other people's grammar.

We will see, not saying anymore. I 100% give you my bank of england bonds this will not be in at launch. nor will siege pvp, but hey trying to convince fanbois is like getting water out of a stone.

Oh my god...I hate you. I KNOW this, I just can't draw out that particular day in class to remember what it was my teacher said. I'm going to spend the rest of my day figuring out what is wrong with that sentence, because I actually ENJOY having decent grammar.
(Technically, good forum communication never uses good grammar. Over the years we've adopted some interesting methods for better communicating our emotion into text so that context is created more accurately.)
Also this client was not 25 Gb as stated by GS it was 15 Gb.
So I guess this was not the "whole" client.
WoW is 9 Gb big- now add insane graphical texture packs, voices for quest givers, a world that is supossed to be quite a bit larger then WoW and DX10. I guess that would be a bit more then 15Gb by my standards.
We finally agree on something. You're assuming the things that are not currently presented will not make it at launch. You think your assumptions are well based. Well, if you want to know the truth, I have made myself the same assumptions. Check my own history to see for yourself.
Please understand that while I agree that I don't believe that everything will be in place at launch, I do believe that everything will be in place for the semi-casuals (aka the majority of the player base) to experience.
As long as the performance is spot on and the game is fun, the game will succeed for the people that like it. And more important, it will keep the company financially viable, which is something that is needed for future expansion and further development.
I don't have acsess to closed beta. Only have the client I dl from gamespot (about 7gb if I remember correctly). I have uninstalled it now from pc but I might be able to recover it to see the build number.
Anyway - I tried my best to be neutral in my description but my opinions and what I do is ofc just up to me. I am in now way asking players to pre-order, to chancel their pre-order, to buy the game at release or dont buy the game at relase. Im just saying what I'm gonna do based on my opinions
I truely hope for AOC to become a great game from day one of release. Im just gonna wait few months before I buy based on my experience. But that doesn't mean its a bad game

Hey np, but im just trying to make a point they promised so much and alot of features have been cut already for a supposedly PVP based game. In the end whats the difference in this game and any other mmo game out at present. Yes I am making assumptions that seiging and spelweaving will come later on, but i know for a fact it wont be in at launch.
I am also curious to see the computer specs that the OP was running on. Performance issues vary drastically depending on the power of your rig. I didn't see him mention anywhere how much RAM he has or his video card. Is he trying this on a 6800 or an 8800 or a 9800? If he running at the minimum requirements his conclusions won't hold much water.
I think I will have to agree with you on this one man. The only problem I had experienced in beta was the random crash here and their.
I did also see a few people fall threw the world but I seen that in every game I ever played including EQ, EQ2, DAOC, AO and WOW. I was lucky enough to get into the old EQ beta testing with my old guild in that game, and the content you tested 99% of the time was changed at release.
I find this game to be refreshing twist with its new way of fighting. I enjoyed the fact that you don’t auto attack, and go make yourself a sandwich come back and loot the corpse. This game is going to require you to think and that is so refreshing.
Sorry for getting off topic but I ran this game on my pc that is a decent specks.
AMD5200x2 and 3gigs of ram and two 8600 in sli and windows XP.
The game on high settings was unplayable, and on MED it was choppy all to hell, but on low it ran great. So my conclusion is that you will need a monster of a video card (8800 or better) to run this at the highest setting and if you have two cards in sli will be icing on the cake. I also think it will not hurt to max out your ram for this game.
And for all you kids that are QQ about how bad this game ran for you try running it on a pc that’s not running windows 98 with an 8meg video card and you might enjoy it.

Wow now I know. You Sir Have no freaking idea. Spell Weaving is in, and so is PvP Cities. You get a freaking siege mammoth or rhino with pre order copies. You really thing they won't be in game for 3 months lol.

Do you remember the build number you played in the PvP event? It shouldn't break any NDA mentioning that.

Unless you work for them, you can't claim that you know things for a fact.
Even if your in beta and you know for a fact?

OP, you may want to update your drivers to the 174.xx range. nVidia claims that they resolve issues causing stattering, at least in Crysis.
When going through the update check from Nvidia it says I have the latest drivers installed.
Until they release official new version I stick to this one. Having no problems playing Crysis anyway
Wow now I know. You Sir Have no freaking idea. Spell Weaving is in, and so is PvP Cities. You get a freaking siege mammoth or rhino with pre order copies. You really thing they won't be in game for 3 months lol.
I have fired a trebuchet, have you??
