zazzzazz Member UncommonPosts: 408

So ok i know we getting only to level 13....Fine , but are we getting everything else that we will expect on release like the final Graphics engine and client ect ? (Real world weather ect) or are we getting a older version like we did in the PvP weekend?

If this has been answered somewhere please feel free to direct me.

So we are playing a older version of the client for Open Beta?

It will not be a retail release version. This is another version designed just for the stress test. There will be no directx 10. No raid dungeons. I still think this version has the same low quality hair texture bug in it.

DirectX 10, Keep Battles, Raid Dungeons are all Retail release only material. They are holding all of that back for release, along with afew other things.

It has been stated by Gaute himself that apparently, the Developers want to keep a few of the new things in AoC under a tight lid until release. That is, it won't be released to Beta. This was stated in an interview and among those are Spellweaving, Battlekeeps/Sieging and DirectX 10 Graphics.

Make of that what you will, since I know the haters will immediately begin pointing out that FC has something to hide and the other side of the fence will praise FC for being thoughtful enough to keep surprises for retail.

    My opinion? Wait and see.

The final clients content will probably be patched in at some stage. Open, closed, general, technical.... they're all still  only BETA.

It would be nice if we could just (assuming we have a CD- KEY for release/pre-order) just run the patcher to update this version versus re-installing again. Especially for those of us who might be waiting for CD via snail mail.

Jeez don't they realize people are trying this to decide on whether to buy?

Will we be able to use OB client when release happens so I will not have to download again for the 3 day early access or re-install instead just get patches to make it the complete version?

I'd hope, and I am sure the devs do too, that beta testers are people planning already to buy the game and are willing to volunteer their time making the game better before it releases. Of course it is naive to ignore the fact that a poor product in beta will result in a majority of testers not only deciding to not purchase AoC but also trying to persuade many others to not buy it as well. I don't mind them leaving features out as long as they truely intend on both having them on release, and are smart enough to make sure they are impressive enough to wow players.

Also, I believe they said that Spell-Weaving will not be available on release, but they better have Seiging in place or I will be extremely unhappy with them.

No cheetah2? That is a bit disappointing, but I will be there on 1th of May anyway.

Ok so they are charging people for an outdated stripped down client that has none of the features people are most looking forward to. People are going to be bored to death of this beta in about 2 hrs. after they open it.

It has been repeatedly stated that Spellweaving will be in at release. Most recently in an interview with Gaute himself. I have so far heard no official comment that it won't be in. The same goes for Sieges. Just to point that out, not to say it's the definate truth and the final revelation, but that's the way things stand (officially) right now.

As for the features everyone is looking forward to.  Two of the key-features that most people look forward to would not be available to them in a beta in any case. That is Sieging and the Player-City construction. So it doesn't really matter if it's in the Open beta or not, does it?

As for DX10 *shrugs* The game looks pretty in DX 9 already, so you can take it from there.

I'm not so much concerned about how advanced the engine is but rather the quality of art, textures, color, animations.  So many mmo's really fail here.  How's their artistic expertise to those from pvp beta?  I thought some of the vids looked kinda lame as far as textures and color muddiness.  WoW with their cartoonish exaggerated features at least appear fun and pleasant.  Animations are top notch.  I'm always leary of mmo's that go for anatomically correct characters.  Hellgate, EQ2 and most others really seem to fail here.

it took me like 4 or 5 hours to download the client si its not really that bad

If I remember right in one of the interviews Gaute said that you will get spellweaving at level 40 (or was it 20? hmm). So it makes no difference if it is in open beta or not, since you will never be able to get to that level anyway.

40 id guess, melee class's get their extra combo's then( Q,E) so would make sense for mage class's to get something also.

the devs have already stated on one of the question and answer blogs that they are saving cheetah 2, dx10, spellweaving, seiges etc, etc for release day.  So more than likely we will not see the latest build until May 17th for preorders and the 20th for everyone else

Yeah.  That's normal for beta testing:  leave out the good stuff that probably needs major testing... cap levels at 13... don't let the "open beta" testers see what the game is really like.  They'll patch in all the missing stuff and the fun on release day.

It's all normal.  Suuuuuuure it is.

    I'm smelling another Anarchy Online.

it'a already in the general beta...you know, the one with the lvl 80 cap?

cheetah2 core is in the beta as well, they are slowly patching in the shaders and what not so that they can make sure they don't break anything in the process.

Sieges are in, I already posted footage.

I also just heard on guildcafe's interview with Athelan that quad-core support is in.

Waiting for the transcript to be up and I will post it on the forums here.

Thanks for the reassurance, but it's hard for me not to be sceptical when I hear there will be two different beta version running with the "good stuff" kept out of the version most testers will see.

I hope AoC is an incredible game, but I remember AO's beta and release.  It was not pretty.

Apparently they still aren't supporting Athlon XP chips either as I went to start the game and got the same crash I did during PvP weekend.  And before everyone says, "well, you just can't start the game yet," if you run the AgeOfConan.exe in your IGN beta event folder, it should run the debugger or whatever in the DOS box, then start the program.  After the debugger runs and the screen turns black like it's starting, crash!  I assume it's still the Athlon XP thing.

Makes me nervous.  Will this be resolved on the 17th for my early 3 days?

How can they hold back Spellweaving until Retail? Isn't it a core combat mechanic for casters? Shouldn't they test that?
