So they couldnt look at the guy when they were telling him this and he admits they were probably making stuff up. Way to go on spreading false information.
Not false information, that is LA's current public statement on the matter.  His relucatance to believe is his personal opinion and he is right, know one really does know if LA is covering something up or not.  This isn't the first time they've stated this though.

The only thing I've ever seen is LA saying the license isnt ending. If you can prove me wrong where they've said there will not be another SW mmo then show me a link. You're spreading false information by stating something from a source who says he thinks they were probably lying to him. That makes you no better than some of these people with "inside sources".

In this interview, made around the same time as that Bioware/LA announcement, they state that they have no sequel planned.

Yeah they said a sequel. I think anyone in thier right mind knows there won't be an SWG sequel. Nowhere does he say there won't be another SW mmo. Maybe if you could admit you're wrong once people wouldn't think you were such a shill. Stop spreading false information and trying to spin things.

Not having another SW MMO would be an awful waste of an IP IMO.

A Star Wars MMO should be pulling in at least 500K subs IMO, and to not have one available would be a rather foolish thing for LA not to jump at. My guess is if Bioware isn't doing it then we'll get an announcement in about a year of a new one starting development.

But the one thing I've noticed is that there seems to be quite a bit of "news" items about SWG recently. It almost feels like SoE are preparing for something by attemtping to keep the SWG name in the spotlight. Could it be a possible threat from AoC? Or could they be anticipating something else coming up shortly?

Something just feels kind of desperate about the Hoth announcement to me, so I think the next few months may be interesting to watch.

It really depends how you look on things...many would consider another SW MMO released after SWG to be a sequel.

I'm the one spreading false information?  No where has LucasArts mentioned that there will be another Star Wars MMO.  The LA/Bioware announcement has no mention of MMO anywhere in it, people such as yourself are simply jumping to conclusions and spreading those self-created conclusions around forums.

I believe you nailed it. The NJE game update today will not be as well received as hoped, and with AoC releasing in less than a month, it certainly IS a threat to the small, fragile player population SWG clings to right now. The summit talk is just that, talk. Hoth may or may not go live in the distant future, but it IS a carrot to dangle in front of the players for now.

Here is how they can "add" Hoth to the game without really adding Hoth:

Arrive at Hoth via space.  Dock and go to "planet" actually an instanced cave.

Fight wampas (Hoth Ice Monsters) every few feet using one of the 3 or 4 maps in the game, transformed into Hoth by way of ice monsters and white walls....

At the bottom of the cave hop into a At-At and face off across a large room against npc controlled At-Ats.

Voila!  Hoth is added, as promised!

From a certain point of view!

Hoth being added as an instance "like Axkva Min, Imperial Star Destroyer & Exar Kun" is a great idea and going to be really fun. This dev team is actually doing a great job with SWG. Seriously, I think them working with the means and the budget they have, having to fix all the old bugs, and make good of the crap the last devs did, they have pulled the game together tight. It is being refined in a good way and it just keeps getting better. I have been playing for 3+ yrs and I really like the direction the game is heading in now.

If more Star Wars fans or old players played and supported SWG, then more great things would happen such as expansions and stuff. But SWG hasn't got a strong fan base, so I am sure that limits the devs funds and creativity. This team is working hard with what the have available and they are doing a great job at it. They are actually listening to the players too and working w/ the feedback.

If your an online gamer and a Star Wars fan, show some support and try it out.

You've got no argument Obraik, none at all. A Star Wars mmo in set in any time frame other than the GCW wouldn't be considered a sequel, SOE and LA have managed to butcher the canon so much with SWG that it's almost impossible to have any future mmo considered a sequel to SWG. The only possible way one could be created that could be considered a sequel would be if SOE put one out set after ESB and included all the canon conflicting systems and content that have become prevalent in the NGE, I think we all know how likely that is to happen.

And please, enlighten me. If LA have no plans for any future Star Wars mmo, why do they let the rumours perssist? The rumours alone make a mockery of SWG's continued existence, one press release kills any detrimental effect these rumours are having. It really is that simple, and yet LA refuse to comment in any official capacity. It's like a husband being asked if he's dating the cute blonde at work and saying "no comment" in front of his wife. The whole sorry situation is completely laughable.

...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

Hey man no offense here but the game you play is a shadow of it's former self and the reason people aren't playing is because SOE basically said we the pre-nge vets were expendable and were looking for a new player base to fuel this WOW knock off and the new player base never materialized. They dropped this version of the game on us with little to no warning and said take it or leave it and we left in droves! I personally am a huge fan of Star Wars as well as most of the player base that left but that still does not let SOE off the hook for basically lieing to it player base. Now it's a total trust issues with me because I will never play another SOE product! That being said if there were to be another Star Wars MMO made by someone other than SOE I'd at the very least try it out!

Of course people are playing. If the population was zero, SWG would have its plug pulled already.

But how many people playing? Just compare screenshot activity from Pre-CU to NGE.

Or better still... any of you playing NGE post a screenshot of you and your guild together. Don't even need to be strangers.

I would call a "heroic encounter" (which is no doubt as cookie cutter as the rest, with one and only one approved way to resolve it) hardly anything on the order of delivering Hoth.

Plus it's PvE not PvP, which is the thing that players have been asking for since well before the NGE drove most of them away.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
