So what is this shit?!? How come those westeners ALWAYS get away with cheaper subscription rates? At the current rate 14.99 USD is 92,30 swedish krona, but 14,94 EURO is a whopping 142,66 swedish krona per month... WTF?!? That's almost 40% more expensive!
We get it cheaper cus we have to pay for health care and University...wanta trade?
Shure.
We don't do pay for health care, and we don't get any either anyway. Ok, that sounds blatent but there actually is starting to become some thruth in it. But this not a political discussion. If you do want to trade, trade with a french.
Even the SOE pricing with +VAT adding up to $17 something is cheaper than Funcoms price. I can't understand why they need to add +VAT. Is that because Norway is not a member of EU, but then again I don't see any +VAT on the US subscription. Is Norway another star in the US flag?
Assuming it took 5 minutes per response to write your replies and another 10-20 minutes to read this thread, you've now spent 25 minutes of wasted time at your job.
That 25 minutes, assuming you make $20/hour USD is about $10 USD worth of lost productivity. If you do this everyday each month you're wasting about $200 USD of time at your job.
If you work salary, that doesn't necessarily affect you but it could affect your upward mobility. Now if you happen to be hourly, that comes directly out of your pocket.
My point is this, it wastes more money arguing this point than simply paying it and moving on.
Well, I am glad to see that the rumors weren't true and that they went w/ the industry standard for subscription prices. I think we've hit a plateau @ 14.99 and we won't see anyone try to charge more for a long while.
I'm still on the fence as to whether I want to pick up AoC or not, but I am seriously considering it. It all comes down to whether or not I want to quit EQ2 and shell out the fifty beans for this, or keep playing EQ2 until WAR is out and spend it on some other games that have recently.
Anyone know if there will be another weekend for everyone to check things out, or even if they will be giving a free trial at some point? The free-trials usually don't come until the new subs have slowed down and aren't coming in as fast anymore, but doesn't hurt to ask.
Wth, can't we ever win in this? I guess companies use every excuse they can to maximise profits! And the bad thing is... we will actually play it as we are all looking forward to AoC....

P.S. I'm off today.
No problem The thing is that even if it is higher priced then what I currently play. Sort of have been using station access but will cut down to one game + AoC so it wont be that much. But higher price then one but not that much to worry about. If I like to play AoC I will continue that the biggest issue, as it should be.
Heck, as you said. And there is so much other things that cost aswell.

We have a National Health Service, ie, free health care at all levels. But some morons who have no clue pay for private healthcare. Our schooling at uni level however is far from free and if you intend to go as far as you can in education, I would guess you can expect to leave with a debt of £10k plus. And that would be the 'free' education, if you go to private school you will pay around £8k per year for about the cheapest, that's from high school onwards.

Providing AoC to European customers costs more because:
1: Europe is a diverse area with multiple languages. The game needs to be translated to a few of them and communication to customers needs to be translated to a few of them. Whereas in North America, much larger precent of the playerbase is able to speak English
2: When you launch a game to the US, you can hire cheap english speaking customer support people from India or some other country. Whereas when you launch a game in Europe, have good luck trying to find anyone who can fluently speak some European languages besides English outside of Europe. The customer support has to be done in Europe, with professionals who are usually paid quite well for being able to speak multiple languages.
3: Since dollar price is so low (and compared to that Euro price is so high), that means everything wich can be bough and produced in dollars seems cheap to us Europeans at the moment. Funcom can't make local server farms and customer support to Europe using dollars only.
4: And in Europe, there's VAT added to everything. It's our form of taxation, and thanks to it we have overall a better free schooling system, better free health care, etc. For example here in Finland I don't think there even are universities who'd charge Finnish people anything for attending. We get more from our government, but we'll also have to pay for it.
But I think that Funcom is still ripping off us Europeans. Or more likely, they are giving a discount to North America because they don't dare the be the first ones to raise the game price over 15$ per month there. Because they are using exactly the same prices as WoW is using in North America, whereas in Europe they are charging nearly 2 euros more per month than WoW is charging (after VAT is counted).
Oh, and in Finland you can't even pick your nose without having to pay some sort of taxes from it. That's a damn shame. And every single salary gets pinched few prosents to support the infrastructure and the lifes of students and unemployed.

How true, alas.
But since its common, Funcom/Eidos is no eviller than other MMO companies. Oh well... Just wait another 10 years when China rules the global economy we all are fixed on their currency... whatever it was called, again.

you ppl say cuz its of taxes.. and living cost.. yet you fail to see that we get taxed with vat even.. thats freaking first game i see to do that.. you should take into account that europe is big.. and just tiny part of it can easy afford that price..

Here's a prediction, game will open in US at 14.95 and if subscription response is strong expect them to raise prices after release.
