Fileplanet Open Beta NDA is dropped!!

ZorvanZorvan Member CommonPosts: 8,912

Welcome to the Age of Conan Beta!

We are happy to invite you to the savage world of Hyboria, and we hope you will have great fun in the next few days. Our servers will open tonight at 2200 GMT / 1700 EST, and from this point on you are free to play as much as you like!

Prior to starting your journey we want to give you some important information about what to expect, and where you can get help should you need it.

First of all, remember that you are playing a beta version of Age of Conan, where we on purpose are stressing our servers to simulate a hectic launch environment. This means that you may experience technical issues as you start playing.

Simulating launch is what final stress testing is all about, but we will monitor all of this closely to make your experience as good as possible.

Since there is no NDA on the Open Beta you are completely free to speak about your experiences in public, and you can also take screenshots and videos should you wish to. Together with IGN we have established forums which will be staffed by Funcom Customer Service and Community representatives. There you can discuss any topic you like.

Note: this only applies to the Fileplanet open beta, NOT the general closed or technical closed betas.

    Good stuff Zorvan!

A hot topic on the AoC forums is 'Free to play as much as you like'...people are wondering if that means a lift of the lvl 13 cap. I would doubt it.

  • ZorvanZorvan Member CommonPosts: 8,912

Man, all the people bitching and moaning saying Funcom won't drop NDA because they have something to hide, and now when Funcom drops it, they're nowhere to be seen. Amazing.

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

I didn't have an opinion either way as to whether the NDA would drop or not but there's a lot of content that wouldn't can't be accessed with a lvl 13 cap.

On the other hand *shrug* who cares. I'll be happy just to get in and test.

I think they have something to hide because of the level 13 cap.  Didn't they mention before levels 1~20 are solo content?

1-5 are solo, 6-20 are multiplayer during the day, single player during the night.

Correct. Also, you switch between day and night when you want. So you can do multiplayer most of the time. the singleplayer is for the Destiny quest, which is your characters beginning storyline. After that, it's pure mmo.

All closed beta testers got a E-mail today with the following.

We will hold the Closed Beta NDA for everyone but journalists until launch, but you are allowed to openly communicate about your experiences up to level 13,

NDA has been lifted up to lvl 13.  That was known to be happening.  What most of us are critisising is that lvl 13 isn't really open ended and will not reviel much.  To most of experienced players its a sign of that the game is far from finished - and Funcom is trying to polish the starting lvl to hide whats going on at higher lvls.

Well that does seem a little odd but perhaps they do not want you to play through most of the game then turn around and not buy it ? Just a guess really but most betas I have been in we were able to test most of the areas before launch. I still think AOC will do well and that people shouldn't expect it to be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Amazing.  NDA is still not lifted.  Keep bitching.

So for 6-20 you HAVE to multiplayer and group up? Or can you solo this also if you would like.

Funny sig Zorvan, with the Big Bird thing. I've heard people say Funcom is keeping the wrapping on the gift, not letting people see too much, by keeping the NDA and lifting it gradually as we get closer to release. Sorry, that's still pretty funny to me, but honestly, any guy with brains knows if they didn't lift the NDA for this, the game would be severely hurt. I do think they're hiding stuff more with the lvl 13 cap instead of the NDA, but that's just me

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    Order of the White Border.

U can solo it all - other than few quests that will have constant 30 + ppl waiting for spawns.   Now.. thats great MMO material.

Get in line to kill this miniboss !!

the NDA is there for a reason, just go with the flow, you do not even have the right to play the beta. funcom has given you the PRIVILEGE, they are not required to let you see the game or try it until they ship it to stores. yet people always find a reason to complain. i dont even have a beta key, you know why? because i have some sort of patience and i can wait until its released to play it. (i have 2 fully paid pre-orders waiting for launch day)

    Open beta = Stress Test

They're just making things easier for themselves so things run smoother by the launch date.  Too many people think beta means "preview".  On that note, the whole point of beta testing is to find the problems and bugs so they can fix them.

The first 13 levels shows more than enough. It shows combat, quests, story, class development. It is a preview, not a play everything we have for free event. People will have a good idea of whether they want to play or not from those first 13 levels. If they can't get through 13 levels, and be wanting more, they wouldn't be subscribing if you let them play to 80.

It is a preview, and a stress test. What they are showing is fine for that.

No, you can solo like you would in any mmorpg. The singleplayer portion with the Destiny quest is pure singleplayer. Noone can do the quest with you, as it is supposed to be your story.

I couldn't find the beating-dead-horse icon, so this will have to do. Gads I wish this game would come out so we can stop bitching about the beta and start bitching about class balance xD

Funcom just extended the NDA to include the 4 weeks after the game launches.

lol -how naive are you ?   U think even if ppl get to lvl 80 in open beta they wont buy the game ?   Well... then it kinda proves a point doesn't it?   Subscription remember ... longterm gameplay....

But hey - u fanboys will get your share of dissapointments for the endgame content =)  Cause at this point there isn't any.  So...  game is "open beta" material for the first 13 lvls.  Rest isn't up to the standard to go out to public.  And there are 3 weeks to release.

Its sad to see ppl here defend a company that is trying to hide they are gonna be releasing not even half finished game.   And the sadest part is that ppl like u are actually showing devs this is perfectly acceptable in the MMORPG genre.

BTW -  Have you guys patched ur GTA4 yet with 1gb patch ?   Ur morons.... u really are.

GTA hasn't been different or innovative since GTA3, not to mention its an adult game marketed to teens and kids because they have the short attention span needed to actually have fun carjacking npc's. Go back to Hello Kitty Island and stay the fuck out of this thread.

Edit: Also, what MMO game has ever released its end game content for an open beta?

It also tells me that "selected" sites will be allowed to make reviews - based on something diffrent than what the beta testers are going through.   Probably those sites that have been invited for coffee with Funcom last 3 years and have made the nicest previews so far.   Go go fanboys.

If the Go Go fanboys comment was directed at me, you read way to much into what I posted.  I simply commented on the fact that the game will have reviews popping up in the next couple days.  Biased or not.
