Loot bug and clipping through the world?
First what was missing on WoW.
PvP system. No battlegrounds. Nothing was in stilithus.
Bugs that I can remember are: Bugged SotC for Paladin, Ever stacking reckoning for Paladin, Execute bug for Warriors, Bugged mobs here and there witch you could train your skills on lol, Bug with warchief rend in UBRS (he didnt spawn).
I am sure there are alot more, but that is those i come to think about right now.
question: do u consider any of these to be a major problems?
Hmmm....lemme think.
Well, there was the bug with Blink that either dropped mages into the ground, or stuck them in rocks.
There were several raid exploits (which were quickly fixed) allowing warlocks to "portal pull" boss mobs without getting the other enemies.
The loot bug, of course.
Warrior rage generation was SUCK and FAIL. Early on...warriors could even tank because of it, combined with threat generation issues.
There were no DR's on controls. A person could keep you sheeped permanently or rooted. Roots could hit you from water....dragging you down to the bottom of the lake and drown you. Fears....fears were evil.
The reckoning bug was great. They never caught that until Kazzak was released. A pally one shot an outdoor raid mob with it. Great stuff.
I'll think of more, give me time. Still a smooth launch. Best I've seen...well...next to LoTR.
question: do u consider any of these to be a major problems?
Nah, none of WoW's bugs were major. The loot bug was the most annoying...but I wouldn't call it gamebreaking. I dealt with it. The worst you ever had to do was relog. Besides that, the only major issue was their hardware crashing during massive (and I mean massive) city raids. That sucked...but it was a temporary thing. Between the hardware upgrades and the advent of Battlegrounds...never had an issue again.
To me the lack of a PvP system was really bad.
I mostly play mmos to PvP.
But hey, i was the only paladin in the world who won the WoW tabard when the PvP system was finally launched so i shouldt complain about the timing, hehe xD
I played on a PvP server from day 1. I never had this issue...as PvP was abound on my server. True, I wasn't rewarded in the traditional sense...but those times were the most fun for me. The world was so much more alive then...chasing alliance across the barrens to remove them from our lands and save the quest givers in crossroads was awesome. I once ran a pack of them into the ocean at Ratchet and slew them, hiding, inside a sunken ship.
Those days....ahhh....sometimes the killing IS the reward! That was back when crafted goods were sweet too though....soo many changes ago. I think the classic WoW was probably best for MY tastes.
One bug teleported you to south shore/tarren mill area to some cave. I remember this because I was way too low level to survive there and got good whooping
Classic WoW was fun yes. But it sure had its foults, as any other games do.
Heres is a list of some wow bugs i found on another forum:
5. "Plainsrunning" was the Tauren's only Racial Trait (see above.)
6. Zeppelins and Boats frequently dropped you into the sea (sometimes resulting in death depending how far out you were).
7. You auto-dismounted on all STV bridges.
8. Hunters had focus, not Mana.
9. Dwarf Mages! Although this was removed at one point, players were able to keep their Dwarf Mages until end of beta.
10. Mages had the spell "Sleep". Polymorph replaced it later.
11. Cross faction mounts (Gnomes on Wolves).
12. Frost Armor and Ice Armor Stacking.
13. Mages had the Invisibility spell at earlier levels. There was Lesser Invisibility, Invisibility and Greater Invisibility. They could also cast while invisible. (Invis Pyroblasting FTW.)
14. Undead spoke [Common], not [Gutterspeak].
15. Shamans had spell "Molten Blast".
16. The Warlock talent Ruin was called Holocaust.
17. Innerfire gave Attack Power.
18. Cities had no maps and guards didn't provide directions. Difficult to navigate cities.
19. Quest rewards were not soulbound. High levels were paying well for [Sticky Glue] from newbies.
20. No auction houses.
21. Guild Creation by just typing a command.
22. Before BGs, massive raids on enemy cities. Hillsbrad still hasn't changed much.
23. Alliance outnumbering Horde by atleast 3:1 (in some cases 4-5:1) on all beginning servers.
24. Warlocks could summon anyone from anywhere.
25. Spell damage had no "up to" coefficient so you could cast level 1 spells for 5 mana and 1 second cast times and get crazy dps.
26. Mage Frost Nova looked like a blue shackle. Do a YouTube search for "Warcraft Beta Mage". Remember those ogres?
27. Mana ALWAYS regenerated.
28. Shaman Water Walking did not break on damage. Could stay in Ghostwolf form while on water too.
29. SM Cath was the endgame.
30. Warlocks could heal themselves and resurrect other players.
31. Undead Players were completely immune to Sleep, Charm, Fear, Polymorph, etc (Passive ability). Shackle Undead and Turn Undead worked on them.
32. Rogue Feign generated a combo point.. and it didn't break Sap.
33. Warriors could charge anywhere, in or out of combat, and didn't need a target.
34. Instant cast Mind Blasts
35. Warlock DoT "Mind Rot", Mages had spell "Phantasm".
36. Lockpicking was a tradeskill that anyone could learn. (See #4)
37. Weapons/gear had no durability.
38. Killing guards gave Honor points.
39. Bandages could not be interrupted. You could run while 'casting'.
40. You could sap multiple targets, and it could be used while they were in combat.
41. Enchanting took herbs.
42. Warlocks could speak Demonic.
43. The sludge in UC has harmful to non-Undead.
44. The character models looked human, and not cartoonish.
45. Warlocks could banish Humanoids.
46. Hunter pets grew bigger and bigger as they levelled. Caused raiding problems..
47. Undead could breath underwater indefinately.
48. Shadowform increased damage by 20%, and reducing damage taken by 20%.
49. There were human druids.
50. Shamans could lay down as many totems as they wanted, not just limited to 1 per element.
51. Warlocks could wear Leather.
52. Outdoor world PVP was actually fun.
53. Could cast Curse of Doom on players.
54. Captain Placeholder!
55. There was no language barrier for the longest time. Could gank and trashtalk.
56. Rogues had "Feign Death" ability, and Druids had "Play Dead" while in Cat Form.
57. Polymorph affected Beasts, Dragonkin, Dragons, Giants, and Critters.
58. Priest ability: "Brainwash"
59. Mind Control was amazing. Could use all of the enemy's abilities, and you could buy items/mounts with enemy NPCs.
60. BoP was called "Bind on Acquire"
61. Bodies decomposed slowly when you rezzed.
62. Players could use Ghost Form to travel long distances, and rez at far off locations.
63. Blizzard promised at around level 40, you could specialize in skills to become a Hero Class. The available hero classes would depend on your base class and race. Human Paladin became Death Knight, Dwarven Warrior became Mountain King, Night Elf Hunter became Demon Hunter, Orc Shaman became Far Seer, etc.
64. Blizzard promised that they would fix player ganking by introducing Dishonor Kills (DK). This was changed to Battlegrounds a few months later, and ganking was never fixed. (TM/SS is still the worst.)
65. Blizzard promised Player Housing.
66. Blizzard promised substantial new content EVERY month.
67. "Track Humanoid" was called "Man Tracking".
68. You could eat or drink while engaged in combat.
69. Levels were capped at 45, and then 50, and so on.
70. Shamans were OP. Sentry Totem trick, no fall damage, lava swimming.
71. The naming policy was actually strict and enforced. You wouldn't be able to get away with the name "Spam" or "Chucknorris"
The most annoying thing i remember was waiting in que for 30 minutes before i was able to connect.
And yes that was one of the MAJOR things for me. ( and game breaking thing for quite few )
After all this years wow have some very annoying bugs like hitting the quest boss (any) then fly away from him, the boss is locked and the onyl thing another player can do is petition it ( after some huge wait time for GM's to actually respond -> he needs to spawn the boss again or he stays locked )
But in generally wow was not that buged as some other games were after release.
( it was defenetily far from polished ... dont even wanna go in balancing etc.. )
p.s. As for the broken promises they made ( so many years past .. where is player housing and sieges. )
Futilez[Do You Have What It Takes ?]
I was playing WoW Sunday and my hunter died because my pet got rooted in the quary at the south end of the barrens. People who think WoW is or ever was free of bugs don't have a lot of working grey matter between their ears.
I think with the 'Go Live' WoW the most annoying thing was waiting for 5 minutes to zone into Ironforge by the auction house. The auction house being broken half of the time, 9 months after launch was annoying too.
Also I really miss being in MC and standing by Garr when he blows up and dropping a sentry totem and hanging out in the air while looting was going on : ). Best bug ever.
No major bugs you say? Well the worst bug of them all is not being able to play.
If you remember the servers were down for days the first month. In fact when I think of it there were constant server problems on Ravencrest-EU which I was based on. It was a heavily populated server I'll give Blizzard that and the game probably exceeded their wildest expectations regarding subs. Regardless that's only excuses. Fact is the servers were down a lot. Resets. Waiting for 10 minutes which became 1 hour, which again became 12 hours and so on. Mobs disapeared or freezed which gave me nervous twitches thinking about how long the servers would go down again. At least Blizzard gave us ample compensation in free playtime for our inconvenience.
Don't get me started on MC and BWL raids. God they were laggy. Thing is for anyone that has played a few MMO's over the years knows that bugs are almost unavoidable in MMO's.
Well 1st off, I think your comparing apples to oranges.
We cant compare AoC open beta to WoW release.
I played WoWs closed and open beta and I remember some bugs and omissions. Some big ones in WoW's OB that come to mind:
-Hunters and Warlocks did not have talents at all until release, they went into release virtually untested and ended up with many broken talents.
-Bows were an afterthought. They forgot to itemize the world with Bows equivalent to the stuff you could find in other weapons. In beta, most hunters ran around using vendor sold bows because bows were so hard to find. Finally, just as OB began they put some bows in as quest rewards, still it was far too little.
-The loot bug. This 1 was REALLY annoying. You got stuck when you bent over to loot or pick a resource. Sometimes you wouldnt ever unstick and would have to restart, other times it would take several minutes to unstick.
-The starting zones were hugely unbalanced. Some had tons of quests and could handle a lot of players, others were too small. This made some races and classes level much faster.
-The boat problems in OB, where it would lag dump you in deep sea and kill you. This resufaced after release, but existed to a much greater degree in OB.
-Hunters had skills that used mana, but didnt have any, they had focus.
WoW had VERY minimal bugs upon release. Most, if not all, of the problems people experienced were due to overloaded servers. Blizzard was a bit unprepared for their release because they didn't expect such a large subscriber base.
I played WOW open beta, and reacehd lvl 40 in less than 3 weeks after release. My subscription didn't make it past the first month, but that was not due to bugs, just boredom. The only thing that I encountered that could be considered a bug was the looting. Even though I belive that was due to the heavy population load. That was fixed in one week. The only other annoying problem was they didn't have enough servers, so I kept having to change servers just to log in. I would hardly consider either of those bugs, let alone gamebreaking.
Dude, look up the word bug. It doesn't mean broken promises, retarded design decisions, boring gameplay, lack of content, or imbalanced classes. Geez, what is wrong with people?
... Apples and oranges: Machine performance was never an issue with WoW.
Why people make these retarded comparisons really eludes me.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
I played a mage since open beta till about 3 months ago. I had a crappy PC back then. Pretty much the same situation as now. But WoW felt a bit more complete than AoC... or, well, it had a different feel to it, eg I'm playing a necromancer and I keep dying all the time. Pets generate no aggro at all, I have no crowd control... Those are just the initial thoughts though. I need to play some more.
Back to the topic.
I think everyone remembers this :P
Some of the long lasting and unfixed bugs:
1. Blink working at random, not working at all or in extreme cases (with lag) transporting the mage backwards. Try blinking over a log or a doorstep or any 'object' that you can normally run over...
2. Cold snap not resetting long frost cooldowns (lag related I guess. Had plenty of screenshots with Cold Snap cd just starting and ice block on 4min at the same time and me dead of course).
3. Passing through objects when you loose control over your char (sheep, fear). The most common way to end up 'falling through the world' is to break fear while in a ground texture. Bug still there. You can get to the Old Ironforge by getting polymorphed in a duel in the right place
WoW still has one of the biggest bugs in MMO history, appearing ot be a saturday morning cartoon rather than a living breathing world to be immersed into.
When I quit 3 months ago these bugs still existed.
Oi vey...the loot bug.
Although, my favorite bug occurred when you died on the boat between Ratchet and Booty Bay. I played on a PvP server, and rogues would stealth and then gank people on the boat. The bug caused the victim to release at the cemetary where their hearthstone was set. I was a Dwarf and so it was frustrating to a) get ganked (of course), and b) make the trip from Ironforge back to Booty Bay and then cross your fingers that it doesn't happen again.
Currently Playing: Nothing...I'm developing.
Looking Forward To:
It's still there Or was untill recently.
Not sure if it counts as a bug or a design flaw but if someone was killed in the air or in an otherwise inaccesible place, he would have to rez at spirit healer. I was planning to spec pom pyro just to have some fun ganking people midair but in the end I settled for coc + fireblast + ice lance spam while slow falling :P
Amassed quite a few kills like this. Fun ^^
My favorite was levitate wall-walking for priests. I think it counts as a bug because:
1) walking over mountains between zones got me to lots of untextured/unfinished areas (silithus, hyjal)
2) priests had a not insignificant advantage for getting to resource spawns in hilly terrain
So sad when they "fixed" it and levitate became nearly useless. For an explorer like me it was awesome.
While I'm here I'll second the opinion that the early open world no rewards PvP was the best PvP experience I had. I was on a PvE server too, but there was plenty of action if you were looking for it. The honor system made it too much of a grind and then BGs obliterated it. Ah well, things are probably better when they end while they're still fun.
