Let me say this first. I'm not a fanboy of any game. I'm a fanboy of good games
with quality and high fun factor. I've played EQ2, Wow, Eve-Online, AO,LOTR,
Vanguard etc .. all of them are (where) good in there ways.
When I started play the AOC Open Beta I was very doubtful if the game would ever hit
the market. Crashes, stuttering .. you name it. But now after the latest patch,
I get goose bumps when playing AOC. Oh god, this is truely a huge step in the MMORPG
industry. Funcom promised us something revolutionary, new and fresh, and they really
kept there word.
Another game that I'm waiting for is WAR. I really loved DAOC. But since EA is the main
owner of Mythic, I'm really worried if they will cancel WAR.
Why !? Well perhaps some of you remember the MMORPG Earth And Beyond. EA decided to cancel
the game even though it had subscribers and was a good game (for that time period).
For EA it was all about money.
When (If) WAR is released it has to compete with not only WOW, but AOC and Aion.
And for most of you playing the Open Beta AOC with the new patch, you know how
good the game is now.
What do you think ?

But as far as your question is concerned: There is no way Warhammer will ever be canceled. Legitimate chance of it being bad, yes, but canceled? Not at this stage.
Cancel WAR cause of some competiton? Sorry but that's silly!
This might be the most stupid poll-title i have ever seen on this site.. Why on earth would EA cancel a thus-far successful development and highly anticipated release of WAR? Just because funcom gets AoC in working condition for some users? By the same logic, AoC would cancel their development/project, just because WoW is still going strong.
Fail +1, try again - because you just don't make sense, or you are very naive.
The only reason they would cancel a game, is because they see there is absolutely no reward possible vs. the risk involved of continuing development. (Not a factor here), or that it has been out for 6+ months and it has less than 10-20k subscribers.
Are you high?
Why would anyone cancel a game on the edge of releasing it? I'm sure WAR is only a few months away from being released. They have heaps of people interested in the game. Not everyone is going to jump over to AoC and leave all hope for WAR behind. I myself am no fan of WAR and I can't wait for AoC. But I'm pretty sure WAR and AoC are both going to be quite successful and no company is that stupid to cancel in such a late stage of development.
I'm sure they'll cancel WAR this year, just after hell freezes over and Satan starts up a flying pig farm, right? And I'm an AoC fanbois that's pre-ordered!
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

I rest my case.
J/k
I've played so many MMORPG games now, that i got a sixth sense for what works and not. AOC works ... very well.
I'm not trashing WAR in this thread. I'm asking if EA is greedy enough to cancel WAR. EA are famous for running over fanbases infavor of keeping a high stock value.
This is not about how good or unique WAR is. It's about "Will EA make any money from WAR to let it live".
AOC will live. There is no doubt about it. The lastest patch that came out yesterday was really a miracle patch. It's killed all doubts regarding the potential of AOC and if it will survive after release.
If you are not participating in the AOC Open Beta, and tried the game after this latest path, then I understand it's hard to do any judgement.
I really hope WAR is released and is a success. But i belive Mythic has to deliver more then an average good game. They need to bring something that feels FRESH, NEW and REVOLUTIONARY since they decide to use basic
and simple graphics.
I don't think a single patch in Open Beta is going to make or break this game, or make or break any other game in development. The simple fact is there are still some issues with AoC, and they really have nothing to do with performance. For one the combat system is far from REVOLUTIONARY, it' still very clumsy and unnatural to use. I also find that it loses it's fun factor as you level, and just turns into button mashing. There is also still a large lack of content missing in the level 20+ areas compared to Tortage.
Now don't get me wrong, I have been a long time supporter of AoC. However, after playing PVP/Open beta and watching a "friend" play closed beta, I started to have some big doubts about this game. I went from having the CE pre-ordered and being ready to go on the 17th to canceling it and now forcing myself to wait a month so I don't end up wasting on money a la Vanguard.

The combat system has a depth you know. In classic MMORPG combat you target one mob ... smash the buttons until it's dead. Then select the next target.
In AOC i find myself always move into a posistion where i hit multiple targets, use the block function (X) to gain back HP etc.
Some people has already started to master the
combat system in AOC, and can kill multiple targets several levels higher then them self.
One thing we probably will see (later on after a year of tweaking) is PvP combat that are less
dependent of level and more about mastering
the combat system.
Additionally, add the combat using mounts.
It also will add a depth to combat and PvP.
here you go this is for you for creating the dumbest thread ever
You serious? Really? Cause I cant think a logical human asking this kind of question. A simple good patch in AOC is gonna kill WAR which is supported by one of the biggest gaming companies in the world and have been in development like AOC for many years and has a HUGE fan base?
Hmmmm what you think?
Now if AOC after realease becomes a huge game in terms of player population and fan base(huge dedicated fan base) I am sure WAR team will try even harder in order to get into the mmo competition with a good game that can competete AOC and other MMO's. Lets not forget that WAR is focusing mainly on PVP and RvR which is not something AOC can be so so so proud of. Since seems like AOC has a great PVE side and a solid PVP.
(excuse my bad English)
I can't agree more. If AOC becomes a huge success, then WAR really has to stand out in it's genre, or else just be another WoW - clone with a twist.
Well then you sir dont know EA. If they cant buy you they quit why do u think they're trying to buy take two. so they can have a monopoly on all sports games. EA is bout chedda and if competition disturbs that they give up or buy out there competition.
Miracle patch? Yes. WaR killer? No.
WaR is a RvR game, AoC is PvP/Raid. Different genres. Also both have their own strong IP with separate fans.
"You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs."
In beta, people have to go with the flow, but after day 1...look out.
Actually there was a patch in AO at around the 2 or 3 month mark that officially KILLED it. Check out MMOGchart and look when the line dives into the basement. Litterally one day it all went to hell. A patch won't hurt a great game, but it will easily destroy one when you have a playerbase teetering on the edge. In AO's case, thats exactly what happened.
Hopefully, AOC won't be round 2.
EA cancel one of the most anticipated MMOs in history?
You are smoking the GOOD crack.
I have to agree, this is the dumbest thread ever.

Just look what happend to Dice (the maker of Battlefield). When EA bought them the company
truely change. The community expected to see Battlefield 3, instead Dice made an exclusive Xbox360
version called Bad Company. Most likely because it's more profitable. Secondly Dice are
releasing a free to play, ad based TF2 look a like Battlefield game. To it, they add micro economy
(where you buy upgrades etc).
Without EA as owner, Dice would have released BF3 (to the joy of the BF community) long ago.
Funny topic, I don’t think EA will cancel because of AoC.
But many players completely underestimate how evil EA really is. I wouldn’t put anything past them. They have a history of doing one thing well. Destroying good dev teams. Show me a Dungeon keeper 3 (which was planned at one point) and I’ll shut my mouth.
I've reported this thread - not because it's offensive, or in any way in violation of forum rules.
It's just so stupid.
Candidate for most idiotic post of 2008. Why are there so many idiots in the world and why can't we move them to some island away from the rest of us.....?

I can't agree more. If AOC becomes a huge success, then WAR really has to stand out in it's genre, or else just be another WoW - clone with a twist.
A person playing and loving a game which follows the very same design direction as WoW aught to be mindful of throwing the "WoW-clone" talk around so readily. I have turned my attention AWAY from AoC because its devs have proven to me that they wish to direct this game in a way that I found too similar to the gameplay I left when I left WoW.
Second, AoC will never BE a huge success. It is not nearly hardware-accessible enough to be one. I'm sorry, but even if its the best game ever made it will only be a niche game at best. The huge number of players in WoW aren't likely to spend 700-1000$ on a new system for a 50$ game that comes with a 15$ a month subscription. This is just the cold, hard truth. I'm willing to bet a massive chunk of WoW's players are only PLAYING the game because its the only MMO with decent gameplay and upgrades that their PC can support.
WAR actually has nothing to fear here at all. What they are targeting, and what AoC are targeting, are two different people really. Oh, and WAR is far more hardware-accessible too. So even among the "God I wish I had a pretty MMO" crowd...there are gonna be a few who take WAR over AoC because they can actually run IT and its still better looking than WoW.
If you think EA would pull the plug on WAR, your just dumb.
