After AOCs latest patch - Will EA cancel WAR ?

AOC's game design is quite a bit different from WAR's especially where the end game is concerned.

AOC is trying to be all things to all players.  They plan on delivering a strong PVE experience including end game PVE raiding a la EQ/WOW etc.  They also plan to have border kingdoms, with PVP/sieges being the primary focus.  I believe there is a plan for a fairly strong crafting system and they will offer a FFA server ruleset.  They've also focused on delivering a superior graphic experience at the risk of losing the players with lower end machines.

With so many different directions to focus on, its hard to actually be the master of any of them.

Contrast this with WAR.  The focus is on PVP.  Not just at end game, but all throughout the game there are provisions to PVP at all levels, on a very competitive level (not just a big gank fest).  It uses an RVR approach, which encourages more of a "our team vs their team" mentaility and makes players really feel like they are "part" of their realm.

Sure, WAR has some PvE, but mostly to give folks a break because all pvp, all the time is relentless, and not always possible.  Besides, most of us like to do some PVE from time to time.

Crafting?  WAR might have some, but Mythics made it pretty clear, crafters should not expect much depth in this area, Orcs don't make doillies.

And the end game...thats's whats really different.  WAR only has 40 levels?  Why? Because it probably will have 100 levels of realm ranks (or whatever they decide to call them) with a deep set of skills and abilities that can only be obtained by advancing to ever ranks by successfully PVPing.

This change in focus is completely different from AOC and what really sets the game apart from everything else out there, which any former DAOC fan will tell you.

Both games have their niche to fill, and I think there is plenty of room to succeed.  Being a fan, obvoiusly I think WAR will do better, but of course that's just my opinion.

But first... Mythic/EA have to actually release the game...something AOC certainly has the lead in at the moment.

OP, revisit your own post in about 72 days from now.

AoC has 3 things against them.  WoW is crack and people will get sucked back in especially with an expansion coming.  WAR beta/release is nearly upon us well.   Both can run on anyone's current machines.

Like I said, we'll know a lot more on AoC's chances in about 72 days.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

i think i speak for everyone when i say wtf?

WAR is the most aniticipated MMO in history imo, AoC was always 2nd choice for me for WAR because combining Warhammer and DAoC is possibly the best idea for a MMO.

1 good patch = EA Mythic sayin 'bugger me, might aswell quit now'

    i dont think so

ill vote this for most naive post in history award!

    Currently playing : Darkfall
    Character name : Aeola Anara
Played: Almost every P2P MMO you can get your hands on, notably:
Daoc, SWG, LOTRO, WAR, AoC + Dozens more

When I started play the AOC Open Beta I was very doubtful if the game would ever hit

I get goose bumps when playing AOC. Oh god, this is truely a huge step in the MMORPG

industry. Funcom promised us something revolutionary, new and fresh, and they really

    kept there word.
Another game that I'm waiting for is WAR. I really loved DAOC. But since EA is the main

owner of Mythic, I'm really worried if they will cancel WAR.
Why !? Well perhaps some of you remember the MMORPG Earth And Beyond. EA decided to cancel

the game even though it had subscribers and was a good game (for that time period).

For EA it was all about money.
When (If) WAR is released it has to compete with not only WOW, but AOC and Aion.

And for most of you playing the Open Beta AOC with the new patch, you know how

    good the game is now.
    What do you think ?

Wow this really takes the price of dumbness. congrats!

    Uhh over 600k beta apps...

Some of these threads are hilarious.

    EA won't cancel WAR.

AoC will be fine if they fix their issues and really learn to listen to customers.

Calm down.  All of the negative press for AoC isn't going to stop the game from coming out.  No need to bash other games to mark your MMORPG territory.

Add a few sticks of RAM, get rid of Vista and install XP SP3, and maybe install a gamepad controller... and you're set for AoC, baby.

The only issue you may have are bunny-hopping arsehats.  Deal with them however you see fit.

    IMO you're confused.

Mythic probably postponed WAR in an agreement with Funcom. There was simply no point in those two games playing competition while the bear is in the room. Mythic got its 6 months more to polish and Funcom got a level playing field for release. If WAR released at the same time as AoC did then it would probably turn ugly for both games - usually people don't purchase 2 MMOs at the same time... this way both will get at least a chance that all the players tired of WoW will try them out.

When will you people get it that Mythic and Funcom aren't enemies? They are pals, colaegues and they probably know each other. They won't be "stealing" from each other because it is quite obvious that both games are geared at different types of players, different gear setups etc. And besides, there is plenty of subscriptions to be stolen from WoW - the real competition. It would be dumb as hell if they were trying to get each others subs - they are after WoW's subscribers and new MMORPG players.

No, AoC could be the second coming delivering all the stuff they promised perfectly and I'd still play WAR, regardless if I'm already playing AoC as well. It is a different game and it suits my schedule and playing style better.

EA is only the publisher and is giving Mythic Financial support and resources. If anyone is going to cancel WAR it will be Mythic not EA.

Again WAR will appeal to fans of EQDAoCWoW

AoC will appeal to fans of adventure games and street fighter.

  • KatovaKatova Member UncommonPosts: 184

lol at canceling WAR. WAR might end up being bigger than AoC

Not true anymore.  EA officially purchased Mythic awhile ago.  So while they are acting in the capicity of a publisher they are also the parent company of EA Mythic.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Stop replying, this thread doesn't make any sense...

At this point in the life cycle of the game (WAR) most of the production cost has become sunk.  Even if the games sucks compare to others that are out in the market - there really isnt anything for the developers to lose by releasing it.

From a financial standpoint, it's just silly to assume a company will throw away millions of investment  because of an uncertain future.

Yes, the game could be realllllly bad.  But there will still be people who will buy it and stay it's the 'best.game.ever".

Some money is better than no money

I preordered AOC and I'm looking forward to playing it. And... I will also play WAR.

Not sure why I should be limited to playing and enjoying only ONE game? That's what I don't get about super trolls and fanbois. Why does it always have to be ONE game over another? Who cares?

This senseless "my game is better than yours" mentality is extremely childish and immature.

    My 2 coppers anyway.

Two TOTALLY different kinds of beasts... of which I highly prefer AoC.  I think the game in current state is a diamond in the rough - but within a year it should be quite an awesome MMORPG.  The day they come out with SAILING the Hyborian seas is the day I will become way more likely to subscribe.

Depending on how BioWare's still unrevealed MMORPG goes, I might be looking to join this game... if not EARTHRISE [Really looking for a sci fi setting...]

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

This thread is ridiculous. There is no chance in hell WAR will be canceled at this stage.

WAR still has a huge following and is looking very good from what I've seen.

  • UmbroodUmbrood Member UncommonPosts: 1,809

Extremely unlikely that EA will pull the plug at this point, near impossible I would say, besides mythic still has a say in the game.

But lets not forget that EA is more likely to pull ANY game as soon as it does not meet their rather obscene profit goals.

I simply wont invest in anything put out by EA for the long run.

If the game for some weird reason is doing badly at some point they will make no attempts of CPR, they will just pull the plug.

    They have no emotional investment.

    I think you're on crack.

But as far as your question is concerned: There is no way Warhammer will ever be canceled. Legitimate chance of it being bad, yes, but canceled? Not at this stage.

  • Morgenes83Morgenes83 Member UncommonPosts: 288

    Are you kidding!

WAR has atm 684.885 Beta applicants.

The collectors edition is sold out nearly everywhere, half a year before Release!

And half a year is much in MMORPG-time today. All the gamehoppers getting bored pretty soon. And you have to consider, that many people do rather wait for WAR, than upgrade their pc for AoC.

They are not gonna cancel WAR, but I guess both games will have many subscribers for a long time.

Celeras and jmd10222, grow up. I agree that no matter how AoC will do we will have a WAR too. But the "crack" comment, just plain sad...

  • TerranahTerranah Member UncommonPosts: 3,575

And maybe Pepsi should call it quits because there is Coca Cola.  Come on....stop being silly.

No one is going to flush millions and millions of dollars down the drain because there is competition.  If anything, it will just make them work harder.

  • BadSpockBadSpock Member UncommonPosts: 7,979

    Worst.. thread... ever.

    The real question is:

Once WAR is released, will Funcom shut down AoC?

    i'm so funny...

    @ OP.
"Let me say this first. I'm not a fanboy of any game". Forum post history doesn't lie. Yes you are and your original post is as blatant a troll as can be.

The amount of shit threads being slung at the WAR crowd from the AoC crowd and vice versa is disgusting. Just masturbate to your friggen game in private and stop trying to wage holy crusade against any other MMO that might be competition.

Every fanboi wants their MMO to be the 'bestest' thing on the face of the earth. Why? Firstly, they'd hate to see their months of hoping dashed if it bombed and people went elsewhere. Second, they want to be able to think they're playing the best thing on earth.

And so it'll continue until the next round of big budget MMOs appear. Then your MMO will be forgotten..

WAR has such a huge and interesting lore. I say the same thing for Age of Conan. Both have as far as it seems a good fan base. It seems WAR is getting more people but both are doin very well. If it continous like this then we will finaly have a huge competition between WoW, WAR and AOC. Which is a great thing for gamers and gaming industry. They all deserve respect .Flaming, trolling or similar are things that can easily make you look like a 10 years old child which is not bad being the child but its really bad being 20 years old who uses a 10 years old child communication.
