I stumbled across a thread in the official forum posted by a woman, who asked why there was no male prostitute in the tutorial for female players playing female characters.

Just read the answers. Read the many, many ugly replies. Don't just read the first 5, go through all to see the MASS. Gawd, it really made me shudder. I am sure there are also decend (straight) males playing this game, but they chose the be very silent there. The very long list of what can not be called anything but sexual harrassment... great.
But one cant be surprised. Funcom ASKED for such a band of trash-people. Yeah yeah its all like in Howards books, I know. So what? We dont have 1930 we have 2008. Were 1930ies macho men fantasies of raped women and females made objects of male desire so grand? You really want that world back? Is it SO difficult to accept women as EQUAL? Great. Maybe I put too much believe in men, that they could evolve. But place them one scantly dressed woman in front and it all goes bye bye apparently. Disgusting.
Funcom asked for it. It was not necessary, but all the design choices CALLED for such human trash, and there it is, calling its own stupidity out aloud. It seems to me straight men are as dumb as I thought after all. Bah... ><

Besides, Forums are the place where people show their ugliest sides anyway in case you haven#t noticed before. The anonymity of the Internet makes them forget about social guidelines and morals and just shows what kind of people they -really- are. That holds true for any Forum by the way.
Again, I don't know what big -news- you try to bring us here. So there will be idiots. OK, *shrug* More people to ignore or kill in game then if they behave that way towards my GF or my friends.

First off, you seem like a nice enough guy, and I get that you have more gentile sensibilites and are not a "cave man" type person. All good.
But don't go pulling that B.S. You should know better and quite frankly if that is what you believe you (a) have larger issues at hand, (b) live in some small hick town where you have never met the hordes of gay men who act just as crassly, and (c) need to get some perspective.
Have you ever thought that the hordes of more polite men just don't hang out on those forums as they just have no use for them?
And as far as Conana goes, again, it is Conan. You say you think you know but the reality is you are in denial. The brutal world of conan doesn't make men act this way. Sorry. There are plenty of gentlemen who are interested in the Conan world for what it is. I'm pretty sure they are not catcalling women from their windows.
So, you need to either toughen up a bit or perhaps find a new game. I'm sorry that people act this way but I'm pretty sure that the general consensus is that humanity has never been acused of being overly polite. There are jerks everywhere. And quite frankly it's Funcom's fault for not policing those forums. Moderation can actually be a help.
If you want to choose to insult good straight men then quite frankly you are just as ignorant as those who condone that behavior.

It is exactly what I would expect to hear from children. I don't worry about what sexual inuendo is found in a toy game and I doubt any adults do either, regardless there legal age.
Meh to the NPCs. They are not real, you know? They are just part of the game graphics.
(oh, and as far as women being equals - LOL we blew past equality like a race car passing a homeless man pushing a shopping cart. Take a look around. Women in my generation earn more college degrees, enter higher professional positions and earn more money than men in their same age group.

Elikal, I have read several of your posts. While they are interesting I think you are really going over the top with all of this AoC thing. You are always coming back with some more negativity, and now you are making yourself some social drama; I fail to see it.
For once we finally have something different from the WoW's, EQ's and Lotro's, a "new" world with some awesome lore and a "fresh" social environment. I welcome the change.
People are what they are, the world is how it is. Hiding from it won't change it. And don't forget that it's a fantasy setting.

you really think that thread is bad...have seen way worse at others games (points at eve online, and some of the stuff i have seen IN game trump even that.)

Ok you are right. I apologize to all gentlemen, and I know they exist. It just makes me so furious to see such negative behavior take over. If it went against me, I would shrug it off, I am used to fight. But some are not, and it makes me always sick with anger to see it.
Gaming in general clings still WAY more to middle age stereotypes than any other media, as I see it. To some degree its human, so what. But when all people have to say about a woman's question is "har har, thats two women = lesbian sex = nice too watch", when I dunno form what cave some men CAME FROM?

The whole reason people insult others is because of negative ATTENTION. You just help them along by posting these things and showing more and more and MORE people that will just say, STFU YOUR HORRIBLE etc.
Now if people were only smart enough to ignore something... they should learn to leave some things alone because all they will do is cause more trouble if they try to do anything about it. 80% of mmorpg forums is a prime example of people flaming and crying because others WILL RESPOND TO THEM BECAUSE OF IT.

I'm sorry Fion, your a good poster and your guild represents itself well in VSoH, but this is plain BS. This type of conduct on public forums has been around long before WoW. It's a byproduct of anonymity on the internet, the same way a person will flip you the bird from the safety of their automobile, but not say something to you face-to-face.
Being new around here I realize I should cool my jets out of fear of being labeled a WoW fanboy, but some of you use references to WoW to justify all that you see unfit in both gaming and society and it's plain wrong.
What the F are you still doing on these forums man? You have been making a thread a day almost trying to smear this game. We get it FFS. "Conan the Unready" etc. give it a rest. We know you don't like the game, you remind us every single day by making some assinine thread about some little aspect you don't like. Go start an "I hate Conan" Blog or something. I also can tell you from FFA PVP weekend that this game, which I think is great, was rampant with these types of clowns. I noted it in other threads.
I have played many, many MMOs and yes this happens in other Betas and frree events but it was extremely severe in AOC. When I play I will pick a PVE server or RP server and hope the community there is more mature, like the community on the LOTRO server I am on. It is great.
Honestly, I have played in free korean PVP grinders and seen more maturity than i did in AOC this weekend. I sure hope it tones down a great deal after release or it might be bad.

Actually, I had responded to this post on page one, and the topic initially was "Anyone else freaked out by being a female, getting hit on by a female prostitute", more or less.
My answer stands:
I am not so narrow minded to be disturbed by being hit on by a female character. Homophobia has no place in game...or out, for that matter.
Sure, the decapitations, blood, & nipples are all just fine...but gods forbid I am hit on by a female prostitute...alas and alack!
Whilst there were some *colourful* responses (to say the least), for the most part...I found the very question itself to be more of a problem.
