In all of the documentation I have posted above it is only said:

"You can purchase early access IF YOU PAY 5$".

This was confirmed by retailers, and also the game Publisher even 2 days ago confirmed that ALL of the peorder HAVE early access: AoC publisher confirms early access for all preorders

    - many people didn't get the box. They preordered online and got the code in an email. Many retailers have no fine print, they are SURE and confirm preorders have early access. The emails many of them send have no fine prints. You call them, the say you HAVE access.

    - preorder box has no fine print. The card inside the box has a fine print that says "restrictions may apply, check out the website register.ageofconan.com". There is nothing on this website. Even inside after you register there is nothing. Also, opening the box voids the refund. So as the box clearly says that you have access and can start downloading on the 14th, many people have not openent the box before the 14th as there was no reason to do it. And by then it was too late.

    - etc... etc...

Just reading through the various threads and it does seem a little odd that FunCom would play it this way.

If they wanted to be clear they should have said:

Buy our PreOrder program, get a mount.  Buy a Collectors Edition for a Ring and Drinking Cape and mount.

Want to start 3 days early ahead of our launch? For a mere $5 you can. Act now because spots are limited.  If you don't make the cut, we will still let you play for 10 days without charging your card.

Come on down and partake in Age of Conan glory!

Geez, you want to argue about "1 single word" that can be interpreted in many different ways, which furthermore is hidden within a HUGE wall of text.

Yes, this foundation is baseless. And even if it was a contract (which it isn't) it wouldn't be receivable. This is far from being clear enough. Add to this the retailers confirmation, the publisher's confirmation ,etc...etc....

If what you are saying is true, then they would have written at least 1 line about it. This is not the case.

    That's exactly what they said.

Registration now opened and new Early Access date for the EU servers

    Posted: - 05.05.2008

Registration for customers with pre-order keys has now opened.

Registration for customers with pre-order keys has now opened on http://register.ageofconan.com. Registering with a valid pre-order key (such as the Rhino or Mammoth key) is the unique way to be eligible to purchase Early Access for 5€/5$. This fee includes 10 days of game-time as well as the digital download of the client. Hurry though, because the Early Access is only available while supply lasts!

Funcom goofed up and created a situation where retailers have been lying to consumers in order to make a sale.  This is a BIG deal, and these retailers (having looked into some of the feedback myself since reading this) are more than upset over it.

    You are lying through your teeth;

Funcom did not charge for "open beta".

Don't play semantics with me, its a fight you've got no chance in.  I don't personally care HOW they handled their stupid beta...it was a beta and I didn't mind because I didn't want in.  The only facts that matter are

A:  It was an open beta

B:  You had to pay money to get in.

Everything beyond that really doesn't matter at all, now does it?  Worse, since beta is supposed to be a serious testing phase to help weed out potential code problems....Eidos (not funcom, see...I did listen to what you said) arranged a situation in which they not only didn't have to PAY for someone to perform a service for them, but even had the providers of that service pay for the right to GIVE it.  Its like having an Appraisal team pay YOU for the right to look over your house and tell you whats wrong with it.  Does that even make SENSE?

    That looks like a;

"Yes you caught me, I was Lying when I made a statement. But will try to reword it in a way that hides this fact."

We all know the story, FIleplanet..IGN beta event..you needed to be a paid up member to get the client etc.

Face it, Funcom made an official announcement. You and others didn't see it, and there was confusion amongst the many retailers. I blame the retailers for not being more accurate with both finding the info and relaying it to their customers, as much as I can blame any party.

I am tired of this thread now, it's gone full circle many times. I wish you luck in AoC should you choose to play.

This is what they said in only a couple of websites and forums several MONTHS (just a week before release) after their huge marketing machine was telling everyone that "preordering and paying 5$ gives early access".

Many retailers didn't know this. Even the game PUBLISHER didn't know this 2 days ago and confirmed the all of the keys have access.

How can you blame the retailers when they went out of their way to contact the PUBLISHER OF THE GAME, who confirmed 2 days ago that all of the keys had access.

Retailers who weren't even supposed to send the keys out before the 16th. And after complaining, Funcom sending them the keys only 24 hours ago (which was too late to get early access)... while people had preordered for months...

You can spin it how much you want. It won't change the fact that customers were screwed. I don't care if it was Funcom or Eidos or both.

Any company that respects itself and its customers would fix such a mess.

Furthermore,  they are now saying that they can't give any more early access because their only way to do so would be to shut down the closed beta servers and use them. They don't want to do this because they need closed beta feedback.

So they say this 3 DAYS BEFORE RELEASE ? 3 days before release they are not ready for so many people. But 3 days later they are ??????

They "would need to shut down the closed beta servers" What a load of crap. Some more spinny screwy bullshit.

They are only doing this to build some huge hype for the game. So they can say "all of our early access's were sold out earlier than expected". They don't care if customers are screwed.

And I am not sure what retailer you are referring too but I got my keys and pre-orders weeks ago around the 25th of April maybe. Not sure of the date, its been a while. I got them a day or two after Gamestop got them in stock.

Do you know what a game publisher is ? It's the publisher's job to market and sell the game. Not Funcom's.

Yes, the publisher is the one selling the game.

And the retailers are Amazon UK (yes this is huge, not some small shop), GoGamer, etc...

I was originally on the fence on this game.  Didn't know if it was going to be good or horrendous.  However, thank goodness I found this thread as it shows me that this game isn't worth it.  I'm not bashing the game personally... but I'm bashing the producers of AoC.  All this information that backs up the insinuations

that the producers are being shady in their dealings with the early access shows me that the insinuations are true.  In fact, I would state that the producers are possibly criminal in their actions (false advertisement).  Anyways, this game isn't even worth my time if the company producing the game is this corrupted.  Which, from the recent evidence, shows that they are corrupted.

WTF is wrong with you people.. are you SERIOUSLY crying over 3 frikin days? SERIOUSLY?

You act as if pre-order is an extra 50 bucks onto your box purchase.. it's free.. 100% free.. same with EA.. it's 100% free (5 bucks = 10 days of game time, which they add to your account).

You also get a FREE mount and a FREE bag that'll help you in-game. How do you obtain these? You frikin put in your order before release.. BIG WHOOP! WOW THAT'S HARD!

So then you come here and complain about a LIMITED program that was said to be LIMITED in the first place. Then people present the facts to you showing it was LIMITED and you continue to complain.

You're seriously complaining just to complain.. grow up already.. it's getting old.. 3 days.. god.. I can't get over that.. 3 days.. PHEW.. makes me laugh just thinkin' about it.

You people think they're being shady.. they don't have the server space for more early access.. if they did.. you think you'd be downloading from outside servers? You think beta would of had to been obtained from freaken fileplanet.. you think they'd force you to use a torrent? shesh... The market was bigger then they thought and they're to busy trying to prepare for release to give a shit about you whiney brats and your damn 3 days. I guess you should have registered when you got your key then huh instead of waiting till the last frigin minute. Take it how you want.. btw you phone is tapped and watch out for the man in a black suit around every corner.. some of you are WAY to paranoid.

    Again, it's not 3 days.  > Its 2 WEEKS <

US is 3 days and Euro is 6 days. Many people who ordered online will get their box only on the 27th or 28th (28th for me), because Funcom does not want them to send the box out before the 23rd.

Amazon UK told us this wasn't a problem as we could get early access for 5$, so we would play for 10 days while waiting for the box.

But even this is not the reason why we are pissed off. We are pissed off because we were lied to. We were screwed. And now Funcom is only making up more bull shit to explain all of this marketing scam to hype the game.

Any company that respects itself and its customers would fix this.

They don't have the server space for 3 days early access, but 3 days later they have the space to launch the game ?????

Furthermore, many of us already have the game fully installed and patched. They still don't give us access. All of this download bandwidth is just some more bullshit and spin to hide their marketing scam to hype the game.

And clearly YOU, BigMango didn't read that we admit it was a MISCOMMUNICATION.

Use your brain. Since EA costs 5 bucks, if everyone really would get access, then that's 5 more bucks for funcom.

WHy in the HELL would they DELIBERATELY cut themselves of possibly thousands of additional 5 dollars?

They actually are NOT gaining additional $5. If I may quote the Pre-order... $5 will get you into Early Access and give you an ADDITIONAL 10 DAYS PLAY. 30/3 = 10. 15/3 = 5. It was just to stop the link of the download spreading causing these horrible bandwidth issues, but of course some idiot child got his parents to get him in, and then spammed the link.

Because the HUGE hype this "forced" situation is generating is worth much more than the 5 dollars some thousands of people are paying.

Thanks to this situation they have created on purpose they create a lot of pressure for the game. This is good for them, this is what they want. It is worth much more than the problem of screwing a couple thousand customers who will, for the most of them, purchase the game anyway.
