I can't say enough about how well this game plays at launch. I was expecting the worse after playing beta and having crashing and video issues but I have been playing on the early access since saturday and have yet to crash or lose connection. The gameplay is excellent, the PVP is fast paced, and the graphics put any other game to shame. I can see myself playing this game for years.
2 weeks ago I was flaming this game, now I'm telling others not to miss your chance to play this game. Its head an shoulders above anything out there
Comments
I know what you mean about flaming of the game. I did a bit myself in the past, not because i had truely bad feelings regarding the game.
I was just sick of the aoc fanboys going omg war sucks etc etc. Kinda got riled up in the moment(s)
Maybe you two should just re-consider your communication technique.
Oooups -- was that a flame?
LOTRO was the smoothest launch. AoC is not bad but there is still bugs present. Besides I was not aware it is already released, I thought we are still in early access?
I don't want to flame AoC since I'm playing it myself and I'm having an ok time so far but the number of "positive" posts is a bit sickening right now. Did someone invest money in FUNCOM stock and is using forums to get rich?
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
no but a lot of people are just glad to get something new, since the last really high quality mmo was lotro, and it was a wow clone.
And i'm not saying lotro is a bad game. i did say it was high quality. Just it takes it's entire leveling system and etc directly from wow. It added in the feats you earn, and the instanced story progression, but beyond that, it's not that dif.
LotRO is not a wow clone but it does have some similarities just like WoW has similarities to other games.
OP LotRO was the smoothest and flawless launch of an mmo ever. It set the standard on how to launch a MMO. AoC comes in 2nd in my opinion.
Huh? Whatcha talking 'bout?
Camping respawn points and camping loading screens is an entirely acceptable method of PvP.....
Hmm, Wow post TBC is still quite linear. It's not a bad game, even though i think it was lazy of Blizzard to make the flying mounts only work in the new zones but the graphics feel very outdated now. Compared to the 3rd generation games coming out now like AoC, WAR and GW2 it feels really old and Blizzard needs to totaly change the game too keep it as the big one the coming 2 years. But this thread is about the launch.
In My opinion it feels smother than the LOTRO launch, LOTRO was too small at the launch, very few zones. LOTRO never got me intrested since you have to play good and the game feels to muchlike Wow for my taste.
AoC have a lot more content and still launched really smothly, I'm looking forward to play it for a long while, at least til Guildwars 2 comes out.
..and AoC hasn't launched yet. Wait till everyone who has a copy of AoC jumps in at the same time. Then it's launched.
Atm it's just a soft launch.
but... but.... AoC isnt lauched yet
Maybe thats why ? SCNR
1. The game hasn't launched yet.
2. You have never flamed this game.
3. You had no posts at all 2 weeks ago.

Or maybe there is more to life than just posting on these forums? you do know and most people do know that there are other MMO based Forums around.
WoW/TBC has changed so much it is now in a whole other ball game than the other MMO's.
TBC launched so much more than 'just another 10 levels".
Wow is no longer a lineair traditional MMORPG that goes from dungeon to dungeon like it used to be like in Vanilla Wow. In that respect yes Wow was a copy of what existed.
But times change and read why Eurogamer gave 10/10 in a recent re-review of present day Wow.
I DO agree that LOTRO had the smoothest launch, but it launched 4 months after TBC and therefore only was a copy cat of the old Wow (those without BG's, competitve Arena's, seamless flying worlds you could land everywhere, 25 dailies , heroic dungeons and professions that were profitable,...).
LOTRO also PROVED you could have better graphics and STIIL have seamless open worlds.
Something on which Conan completely fails (big!). Both in loading screens AND "death by loading zones ganks"
WoW hasn't changed at all. It is still using the same basic "do it again" design and is slowly getting worse. Look at WotLK. Do it again design at its finest. Naxx as the first instance, 25man instances are also 10 man instances!
As for AoC launch, it hasn't launched yet. Early access never counts as launch day but I have a sneaking suspicion that MMO companies are finally learning to test their systems thoroughly and place an appropriate server cap on them even it its a low cap for the first few days.
Even though I don't think I will be playing this game past the buddy trial, I hope the launch goes well and the days of half-baked MMORPGs are over.

not in my book they arent.
Those methods are done by griefers. They take no skill and exploit a weakness in game design. And ultimately they drive away casual PvPers like me.
I got better things to do with my limited game time than to provide some punk kid with his ego boost for the day because he pwned me while I was loading

I think I will not play a game more than one year. WHen I playing WOW on one server, I knew it's always those people but just change a name and class. And then everything in the end become group play. I don't see any game could design soloable end game contents. That's why from level 1 up to max level will be the life time I am counting for each game.
There is only one way to extend the game's lifetime is expansion. Pirates of the Burning Sea is a new game relesed this year but I have a feeling that they need a expansion soom.

you utterly misread the point of my post. Reading comprehension FTW

only one problem with your post ITS NOT LAUNCHED YET
Well, regardless of whether it exceeds LotRO in terms of smoothest launch or not, I'm really glad to hear that so far the early access is going quite well. There were considerable concerns on whether Funcom had learned their lessons from the past AO launch, and so far, it seems that they did.
This is good news, because I plan on buying the retail version for my son and I and we'll be playing by the weekend.
All good news in my book.

Last time i checked, the launch was first the 20th in US and 23rd in EU....
EA is NOT the launch.... Though i have to say making a limited Early access such as this was kinda a good idea, just a shame they discovered they had let out too many pre.orders with the advertise of access to Early Access, with the information not written on the box but inside of it, linking to a page on the site which says it's limited there.
However i hope they have prepared enough servers fore tomorrow and the 23rd when the REAL launch starts.
Pffft having to wait till the 23rd.... Hopefully worth the extra wait.

What he said.
Its a hell of a lot easier to run the hardware when you are exercising a vice grip over the amount of players potentially slamming the server. Lets wait for the actual launch before making hopeful claims. I think it will go well enough...but I'm also not going to assume that EA results are going to be anything NEAR the performance actual launch will receive. Expect it to be worse, it can't possibly be better. That doesn't mean it has to be BAD either...just worse.

Reading comprehension doesn't enter into it, I think it's more a matter of poor writing and communication skills. It's obvious now that you were simply trying to say "how can a launch be smooth if it hasn't launched yet", but If you're unable to understand the connotations of an analogy, you shouldn't use them until you're more adept at the English language.
I personally think you're just being obtuse instead of geniunely thick. That's almost a compliment btw.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
Well I'm in early access and you people can argue all you want about, is it launch or not, is it smoother than LOTRO or not, is it better than WAR or WoW. Go ahead. Argue all you want.
Won't stop be from having the best MMORPG experience I have had to date (on a RP -PvP Server that is).
Story is great
pvp is great,
lots of guilds getting into RP.
The combat is fun.
Character customization (skill wise) is descent – not ground breaking in this area but no CRPG ever is.
The game looks good, runs well even on Vista.
AND WE HAVE BOOBS, god be praised. Can I get an amen, brother.
I don't know about the rest of this game but the RP – PvP servers are going to be one hell of a good time.
