Few more questions.   I have until June 10th to decide, that is when my two LOTRO accounts charge for lifetime memberships.   I want to make sure I dont regret spending $400+ on LOTRO is AoC is going to be a much better game.

Is there a lifetime account option for AoC?    Would running two accounts help much?  I get really bored with just one account.    Is AoC substantially better PVE than LOTRO?    I've been reading about lots of bugs and such in AoC, is this correct?    Any of those bugs game stoppers?

    Thanks.

Yes I'm sure is very immersive and feels like a world when someone is in Dark Forest-1 and his friend in Dark Forest-2 and another in Dark Forest-3

There is no Dark Forest-1, Dark Forest-2, Dark Forest-3 ... only Dark Forest normal and Dark Forest epic. That's it!

Hard to say if AoC is better then Lotro.  I'd say it is somewhat similar but has it's unique differences, the combat system being a big one but also sieges and pvp battlegrounds.  But it is story driven and quest driven similar to Lotro.  you might like it or you might not.... it is subjective....

There isn't a lifetime account option.

Running two accounts would be difficult because AoC is pretty active.  With combos and no autoattack you need to be hitting the keyboard constantly of you aren't doing anything.  I supposed you could have a second character just to do heals...

Can't say if PvE in AoC is any better then lotro.  I'd say it is probably similar other then the combat system differences and the ability to attack multiple mobs at once more easily since melee damage is all AE.

AoC has a few more bugs then Lotro did at release but it has very few.  AoC got a bad reputation from the open beta which was buggy as hell.  If the EA experience is reflective of the launch then AoC has a very low bug count and not a big impact.

None of the bugs are show stoppers.

Actually there is a dark forest 1, 2, 3, ...  It depends on how many people are in the dark forest.  Like for example sinking sands instance area.  when I first went in there during AE there were like 12 copies of it.  Later at night there were 3.  AoC creates instances of zones as populations go up.  Now it tends to hide that from you and when you zone in it only asks do you want the normal or epic versions.  Basically normal is for solo or maybe small groups, while epic is scaled to groups.

When you are in a group you automatically go into the instance with your group.  Also the group leader can summon group members to their instance.  right click and party member names and you will see that option I never had a chance to try it.  Finally next to them minimap is a small arrow, if you click on it one of the options is change instance.  Select that and it comes up with a list of instances.  The first 8 or so have unique names then they are like -1 -2 -3 etc.  you click on and you will respawn in the new instance at your bind point.

I would not want to have it any differnt.  There is a trade off between immersion and fun.  Fun means not having a million players camping the same mobs.  Instances serve and important role in the game.  I doubt many people can relate to non instanced games like eq but in the day eq was a nightmare sometimes when everyone was in a single zones and everything was camped and there was a waiting list to fight in the zone.  Now that as an alternative is definittely not fun.  Instancing is a great feature and consider it a necessary tradeoff.

I feel you are talking about instanced dungeons, and not instanced zones, thats another concept. Few MMOs have instanced zones, thankfully.

Instancing maybe is a great feature if you don't care about living in a consistent world, but if you do, then it's not a great feature, it's a really bad feature.

I'm just NOT enjoying the combo based combat, reminds me of a console ware. Also, the community seems very immature, even by WoW standards. Graphics are fine, sound is decent, although I do not hear any voice overs. I'm only level 9 and will give it another 20 levels , or so. I'm just not blown away with this game. Maybe I'm just not an AOC lore fan, which I am not. I enjoy MMORPG's, but I fear this one will not be what I am looking for. Have fun, all.

I think we will just agree to disagree.  instanced dungeons in most games are instanced to groups.  What I'm talking about is instanced zones based on population.  So for example we decide this zone can support 100 players more then that and the zone becomes overcrowded and not fun.  So at 101 you create a new instance of the zone.

So you play MMO to level? Get to building your city, town, gathering resources, PvPing, re-rolling if you like to level. Let's not forget you still have almost 40 levels to go. It's basically the equivalent of being 20 on WoW. I hear it slows down around 60.

OP, thanks for an original, nonbiest review from fanbois or haters. it is a little dissapointing that the begining area is so lame (1-20) but the after areas look pretty neat. And the story that goes with the quests are always a plus :)

The game was meant for a mature audience. The mature audience doesn't usually have more than 2 hours playtime per day. Taking this into consideration, it'll take quite some time for the target audience to reach max level.

  • mintormintor Member Posts: 61

dude , ppl level fifty,s to 60 running around.

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

It's very doable if you play 20 hours per day. And have closed beta experience of the world.

Just give it a month for the novelty of topless women in game to wear off and the "ehhheheh...boobehs" crowd will have quit the game.

Its always like that, some players consider being first to max level more important then exploring and experience the game features!

Did u ask those players how many hours they spent on AoC so far? I bet some played like 18 hours a day farming xp and nothing else.

Ppl like different things, some hardcore, some casual etc :-)

72 hour period and people playing 60+ hours, imagine the nasty smells coming from them and their computer room.

Yes, questing is much much better than the lame WOW kill 12 of X style. 12 is so 2004.

Just some examples of quests from Tortage:

    Kill 50 Red Guard

    Kill 30 Picts

Get 40 Croc Skins... by Killing 40 Crocs duh! (my personal favorite - took me an hour to complete this while fighting for the spawns with 6 other people)

very biased review.  Balanced review talks abou both pros and cons.

Just like the doomsayers are slammed for saying beeing only negative.  Then the same can be said about those that are only positive.

    Poor review in my opinion.

    Wrong.

What would you make of all GTA4 reviews then? or any great game for that matter? are the writers biased because the pros outnumber the cons?

All player reviews are opinions, and if the game is great in the eyes of that player, it gets a positive review, it has nothing to do with being biased or not.

Most of the players agree with this review, very few don't.

HOw many ppl were reporting lvl exploids in GTA 4 at release ?

How many were reporting item duping in GTA 4 release ?

Im sorry but the positve ppl here are actually playing with cheaters that found multiple ways to exploid the game.   This is a MMO and it will be determined on the longterm gameplay.  But its kinda strange that the longterm can be shortened by alot atm.

If reviews from the gameing sites are gonna be leaving out the fact that many players in EA got 10-30 free lvls by exploiding and money by duping... then those are biazed to.

Game is not ready for launch.  There are numerious issues still talked about in beta forums about how the game can be exploided.  Those issues that have been coming up have all been mentioned there.   I hope noone is blaming the beta testers for not actually finding these huge issues.

Game is not ready for launch you say? mm Ok. Regardless, it has launched, is stable for most players, and is considered a smooth launch.

Regardless of what you say AoCtester (lol), it is doing fine and is only going to get better in the future with FC at the helm IMO, only this time it's got a perfectly acceptable launch (unlike AO).

Again thats your opinions and belives - it has nothing to do with any facts.   Who consideres it smooth launch ?  The exploiders ?

You can lol all you like but that does not mean you are basing it on others than the typical - lets bash the ppl that dare to say something against the game.

I like AOC in many ways.  But its not perfect and should not be considered as that.  Thats why the review is biased cause it did not talk about the cons.  Even GTA 4 had cons but still got 10.   Get it ?
