very biased review. Balanced review talks abou both pros and cons. Just like the doomsayers are slammed for saying beeing only negative. Then the same can be said about those that are only positive. Poor review in my opinion.
Wrong.
What would you make of all GTA4 reviews then? or any great game for that matter? are the writers biased because the pros outnumber the cons?
All player reviews are opinions, and if the game is great in the eyes of that player, it gets a positive review, it has nothing to do with being biased or not.
Most of the players agree with this review, very few don't.
HOw many ppl were reporting lvl exploids in GTA 4 at release ?
How many were reporting item duping in GTA 4 release ?
Im sorry but the positve ppl here are actually playing with cheaters that found multiple ways to exploid the game. This is a MMO and it will be determined on the longterm gameplay. But its kinda strange that the longterm can be shortened by alot atm.
If reviews from the gameing sites are gonna be leaving out the fact that many players in EA got 10-30 free lvls by exploiding and money by duping... then those are biazed to.
Game is not ready for launch. There are numerious issues still talked about in beta forums about how the game can be exploided. Those issues that have been coming up have all been mentioned there. I hope noone is blaming the beta testers for not actually finding these huge issues.
Game is not ready for launch you say? mm Ok. Regardless, it has launched, is stable for most players, and is considered a smooth launch.
Regardless of what you say AoCtester (lol), it is doing fine and is only going to get better in the future with FC at the helm IMO, only this time it's got a perfectly acceptable launch (unlike AO).
Again thats your opinions and belives - it has nothing to do with any facts. Who consideres it smooth launch ? The exploiders ?
You can lol all you like but that does not mean you are basing it on others than the typical - lets bash the ppl that dare to say something against the game.
I like AOC in many ways. But its not perfect and should not be considered as that. Thats why the review is biased cause it did not talk about the cons. Even GTA 4 had cons but still got 10. Get it ?
You're saying it's only the "exploiters" that are liking the game? Dude that is an opinion as well. As I have already said, the game is out and all players have opinions, though most opinions are positive, even on these foul forums.
No it is not my opinion it's the opinion of the people who post while servers are down (they play the game when they're up), and the majority enjoy the game.
No game is perfect, and AoC is far from perfect, though I would say that launch was very acceptable, more so than a lot of MMOs.
Thanks for an interesting initial review and the follow ups. At least the petty bickering is keeping it up at the top of the page so lots of people get to read it
I'm not sure the combat system sounds like my sort of thing, but I'll be after a buddy key to make sure.
Note though that since Sunday's patch the game runs like shit for a lot ATI/AMD gamers. I made it only to level 10 yet due to the client being completely unstable since that darn patch.
And this is from someone who was really surprised in a positive way how well they got the game in the last two weeks of beta... now my CE sits right next to me, but I won't touch it until they fix this piece of shit.
Oh, btw, the thing that makes me angry is NOT the fact it doesn't run on my computer anymore from one day to the other, but that unFUNCOM isn't saying a darn word about these problems...
Quests - I have not done enough quests to give an honest opinion. But from what I can tell they seem to be a bit better then the WOW kill 12 of X style.
Yes, questing is much much better than the lame WOW kill 12 of X style. 12 is so 2004.
Just some examples of quests from Tortage:
Kill 50 Red Guard
Kill 30 Picts
Get 40 Croc Skins... by Killing 40 Crocs duh! (my personal favorite - took me an hour to complete this while fighting for the spawns with 6 other people)
True, but there is much more than just kill quests. One good thing though, when there are kill X for Y loot, the X always drop the Y loot. For example, if you shall collect wolf hides, all wolves drop the hides. So aint you happy you didn't do the croc skin quest in another mmo when just 10% of the croc's would actually have a skin

There is a post about ATI on the known issues list on the forums for AoC. There might be something there that helps.
Here is the stuff on the ATI problem good luck. You might check the support forums at the ageofconan web site.
ATI9800, x800 and x850 series Issues
The above mentioned graphic cards only support Shader Model 2.0 and systems running the game on these cards with default settings might experience symptoms like flickering black screen and shaky rendering.
This issue can be fixed like this:
1) Start the game. When you hear the music starting, a prefs file has been written and you can edit it (in Notepad for example).
2) To find this, you must go to control panel->folder options->view->turn on see hidden files and folders.
3) It is found at the following location on your PC
You win the award for the absolute worst speller in the history of forums.
As an award you get to play less MMOs and immediately go and buy a dictionary. Also run spell check on ANYTHING before you post it for the public to see.
Here are some things I don't like having played the game more.
1. The chat system is bare bones at best.
2. The itemization in the game is lacking. I'm lvl 28 and I'm not seeing much difference in equipment models then I had in the starting island. Definitely nothing cool like in OB when we bumped up to lvl 20 and got class armor. I remember they said there were some insane numbers or armor sets in the game but I'm not seeing them... There are plenty of boss mobs roaming but they never drop any loot.
3. Harvesting is the least inovative in a game yet. All the harvet nodes are static and once you know where they are you just run around to them with every other person harvesting. So you end up dealing with a lot of depleted nodes. and a ton of running... Wow, eq2, vanguard are all much better.
4. Mob AI is really wierd as is placement and pathing. I see mobs wandering in the exact same path in groups that clearly should be more spread out. Also agro rules make no sense. If there are 4 mob near each other I'll attack one with a bow and two might come while two more that are very close don't. If I attack one mob another one comes that is further away. If I body agro multiples come. So far I can't figure it out.
5. I still don't care for the combo part of the combat system. It means in most fights you only can do a couple special attacks before hte mobs are dead.
6. Stealth is near useless. at lvl 28 with my skill maxed and equipment that gives me like an extra 10 points, I will be seen by mobs several level below me all the time.
7. You can't fight in the water. This is probably an exploitable situation. If you get agro run into the water and the fight stops. Also if you are standing in the water you can't fight.
8. There is no death penalty at all. Well there is the 2pts off attack but at lvl 28 my attack is like 110 and climbing so 2 pts off is nothing... On the other hand death is a nice teleport system back to town saving you some running.
9. Instance selection if the zone has multiple instances gives you a free teleport to the nearest safe point. I haven't tried it but I'll bet you can even do it while in a fight.
10. NPCs & PCs popping into existance really near you. This is a huge issue in towns. NPCs can pop up like 3 ft in front of you especially groups. You can be running along then pop there is a crowd in front of you blocking your movement. Or the quest npc doesn't show till you are right on top of him... Very irritating.
