I think it will be more appropriate to say that the mainland is x4 (or x6, depending on level range) of what you've experienced in Tortage.

If you didn't like the game in Tortage (I'm not talking about repeated alt content), chances are that you probably won't like the rest of the game either. The game has certain elements that work only for some people, like the reliance on story-telling and the different combat system. These things are enchanced as players keep on playing. If you didn't like the combat system in the first 20 levels, I doubt it will grow on you.

Also pushing yourself to like the game due to lack of other options is not a good idea either.

On the other hand, if your stay in Tortage was enjoyable (forgetting for a sec any technical issues like loading times), chances are that you will enjoy the mainland even more (especially since said technical issues are minimised).

WAR is still a good 4-6 months away (if it doesn't get delayed again), so if AoC will not become your new home, some other games on the market will need to satisfy your needs.

The game only runs well for those with the latest Nvidia cards.
I canceled my preorder on the third day of EA.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN GUILD WARS?

    CAN SOMEONE ANSWER PLS?

I hate GuildWars so its like guild wars? I am about to buy this game but if  its like guild Wars the hell I am not buy in it.

    PLEASE Can someone confirm?

Not even close to Guild Wars. You'd have to be retarded to say it's like Guild Wars.

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

I can't confirm or deny the resemblance to Guild Wars, since I've never played it. But you will find the zoning similar to EQ2, if you played that game. Or AO for that matter.

It's not like guild wars, at all, accept technically. The first 20 levels are fairly small, zoned and instanced a lot. You can spend a lot of time doing solo stuff (your Destiny Quest line) or you can go into Tortage Day and group with folks, go to areas and fight mobs, etc.

The only way the 1-20 area is like Guild Wars is technically. Beyond that it's a whole lot more fun :p At least IMHO.

I am beginning to question whether some of you are even over 20. You all say the world opens up after 20 and that it is not like Tortage/White Sands. What's so open about it? Here is how the devs set the world up...

There is a big mountain in the middle of every island and about 5 or 6 different paths around or through this mountain. On the mainland, there are 3 main paths that take you to each region (Cimmeria, Aquilonia and Stygia) and they have very few break off paths. Those that do breakoff end at a dungeon instance or an invisible wall.

It is Guild Wars 2. Stop living in the state of denial fanboys.

Zones are massive. I seriously doubt you have even been off tortage.  Been to the Border Kingdoms yet?Aztels approach?  Higher up is nothing like tortage or white sands, some areas are like 3 times as big.

We have the game mapped already but would rather keep those on the guild forums for now :)

That would be DOZENS of break of paths, please just dont quote from one picture you have seen, and dont compare to a game thats not even out yet...

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

    To HistoryBuff:

Actually that's inaccurate as well. Tortage is the only island, everything else is mountain ranges or coastal towns. It's clear that you haven't played the game, but just rehashing second hand (mis)information.

You guys got me confused now.

I am a vet player of SWG and was and still looking for a new game to play.

Recently I tried everything. WoW suck, Gw suck, TR suck and so on so I was hoping AoC will kick a$$ but now its all confusing.

what the HELL are you on about? What game did you play??? Sure as Hell wasn't AoC...

....I mean....you're either making up crap...or repeating something that someone else made up. That's not the way the game works at all.

Lol, you are such a pompous idiot it hurts. Evidence of my exploration? I did all the Stygian quests on the island including getting "soup" for some thief or some crap like that. I don't even read the quests anymore because they are so lame. In Aquilonia, I did the city wide quests including the race, the bard's instruments, the Green Man crud, etc. And from there I went to Cimmeria, got really bored, went back to Aquilonia and then started ganking retards on the main roads.

Yes, I admit, the Border Kingdoms are open but what do you expect? They are plains. They have to be open and the instances can only hold about 100 people (if that, I bet the server will crash with 30). Enjoy Guild Wars 2 fanboy, I'll be in WAR where I can actually discover areas not given by a quest.

HA!! all I have to say is... I knew it...

PS. if your think calling me a fanboy hurts my feelings, think again..

Now shoo back to your bridge troll.

Tortage is the only island? Wow, you obviously never played.

White Sands, Khemi and Isle of the Black Ones are all islands too.

They also build the land layout on the same principle. One central area that can't be scaled surrounded by a few paths. GUILD WARS 2

heh...they're really crawling out of the woodwork tonight, aren't they??

One load of bullshit after another.

First the War fanbois, now the wow fanbois. Where are the darkfall fanbois?

Sorry, but AoC rocks, and spreading negative propaganda isn't going to change the fact.

Its not a seamless world, neither game is.

And you think warhammers zones are any different?

Yeah, was wondering why he was confusing zones with instances. That pretty much sums it up right there.

I actually owe AoC one thing. I owe them the fact that they made such a shit game that I got bored and actually began reading MMORPG's forums for a while. I read about WAR and actually liked what I heard.

EA Mythic actually communicates with their fans. They actually have tech support. They aren't copying Guild Wars or WoW (AoC didn't copy WoW but they sure as hell did copy GW). They are not dissuading people from giving input. They are trying to make characters and armor as unique as possible so you don't have an AoC situation where you can't tell apart a Barbarian, Hunter or Bear Shaman.

And if you don't think I played AoC, my name is Edgtho on the Stormrage server and I still have EA access. On the forums, I am EdgthoTheSilent. Suck it fanboys because my guild has been to every corner of the map and back again.

White Sand Isles and Isle of the Black Ones is on the same cluster as Tortage. Better open the world map to see exactly where they are located.

    Khemi is a coastal town.

I've played the game to max, multiple times. If anything else, I'm past the honeymoon period. Give me some real problems and I'll concur. Making up stuff on the go won't cut it.

Oh, and you are making the same mistake others are doing from the beginning of time. Putting all your hopes for a good MMO on the next in line in development.

0.05% of the comunity, good job for posting the minority of people with issues. I mean your really trying to impress right now arent you. Whilst its sad that these few people are experiencing some issues, the majority are out playing the game with que's to get on servers.

*looks at amount of people posted, looks away*

    TRY HARDER

You see thats constructive feedback on the official forums, and what your doing is just trolling with your warhammer logo on.

TBC Outland has ONE big world you can fly over on your epic mount in full 3D and you can land on ANY spot at ANY time without a loading screen. There is even a complete 3D underwater world.

Total space including air, land and underwater would easely TRIPLE the world of Conan.

Compare this with the loading screens of EACH house you enter AND exit in "instanced" Age of Loading.

Oh TBC was launched in Jaunuary 2007. They call this game DESIGN.

Also LOTRO did a remarkable good job too, No full 3D full overflights or underwater worlds but still far and far better than what we see here.

I was referring to warhammer sorry. I dont care for WoW, flying mounts or pink / purple armor or 80's shoulder pads.

I would seriously upgrade your internet connection if you have a loading screen in AoC longer that 20 secs.
