What do you all think the replayabilty for AoC will be? What I am trying to get at is. I like to roll alot of Alts. I like to try and make one of each class/race. When I get bored playing one style, I go to the next for awhile.
With AoC's 'long" and some what boring 20 levels of tutorial. How many people will get bored of it quickly? When they bore of play their main character and wish to make another, they have to go throew all the 20 levels of tutorial again. I think after twice, people will be pulling their hair out at the thought of it. After only 11 levels as a Dark Templar, I wanted to try another class. But the thought of having to repeat everything I have done sice yesterday is painful to say the least.
I'm already thinking of returning to Vanguard. Why? 20 levels of a tutorial is 25% of of the game. They say it should take you 250 hours to reach the level cap. Does seem like alot of effort to cap out. For me reaching the cap is the fun part. The real game, not the end game of it.
AoC is a beautiful game with smooth play. But it would have made a better offline game, as the first 25% is solo. Why make people pay $15 a month for it? At least make it like Guild Wars. You buy it and thats it. Seems like a wastfull money pit. I have played every major MMO since 1998, so I'm not new to this game play. Therefore it only took me the first 3-5 levels to understand the game play. Not 20 levels worth. I think Funcom thinks we must be idiots.
Comments
actually, no..the "first 25%" is not solo...only the night time quests are. You could potentially skip those, and just use the smuggler at level 20 or what-not to get to the mainland, I would think.
yeh 1-20 is 25% of the game.
this post is epic fail and has troll written all over it.. seriously i really hope no 1 tries to explain that 1-20 is not 25% of the game to this person cause this person really is clueless or he just a
Imo aoc has no replayabilty , you lvl a char to 80..and you have done all, you know each and every inch of the small yet lust gameworld...making alts just to do all the same in the same areas...same starting areas also...its 1 to 2 months then people will return to the previous game...you can quote me on that...
man, I hate your sig. I get scared when I see it in the middle of the night
LOLLOL! Oh sorry I had to laugh! I really hope that you are being sarcastic! Good Joke!
Ok regardless of the possiblity of this being a massive trolling thread. 1-20 is arithmatically 25% of the level cap 80. In terms of experience and amount of time required I think it will be under 5%. I reached level 20 within 2 days of part time, after work playing. About 10 - 20 hours maybe? There are currently 0 unexploited level 80s, 96+ hours after the game went live in EA. Funcom said it would take 250 hours to reach level 80, I did not rush level and with maybe up to 20 hours reached 20. This is under 10% of the total level time.
You are simply wrong.

Yeah man this guys signature is frikking scary..yesterday night i was staring at it..waiting for something to come out of the dark..man creepy...
the tutorial is 25% of the game, if not alittle more. Some are reporting level 23+ after the tutorial.
If the cap is level 80, and the first 20 levels are the tutorial, then yes it is 25 %. No need to explain it to me. I got out of 3rd grade just fine in Math.
Really you must be the lost one, son.
I stand by my post. I never said this game sucks. I merely stated it has not alot of replayabily as the guy below you agrees too.

get to 80..then tell me what areas of the game you didnt set foot on...the zones are made so that you have an illusion they are big..but they in fact are tiny...its just an illusion...you dont believe me ofc..i understand you..you need time to see for yourself...but man the zones are really beautifull, lust with imba graphics...thats for sure...i love that...
Serious question, i want to know so i can try it.

25% of the actual levels. No where near 25% of the playtime from 1-80.

Fine, I will resist the temptation to call the OP insane for thinking that 1-20 will be the same as 60-80.
Personally I think it will have lots of replayability. After hitting 33 I started an alt and found the first 10 levels still amusing. I am stoked that I don't have to go kill rats. But now that I am familiar with that area, it went a lot faster for me.

Apparently failed past grade 4 though. Ever heard of exponential leveling-rate curve? You might want to check it out before trying to wow us with your division skills.
Okay, maybe I should have said the tutorial is 25% of the level cap and not the whole game. Then I stand corrected. Buy that doesn't change that I think the replayabilty of the game will be dead. Would you or anyone want to spend around 20 hours just to roll a new alt? Think not. People want to get on with their new Alts quickly. I'm not trying to start a flame thread and I'm not trying to "Troll" Dumb words in themselves, but.... You get my meaning in my post. To much effort will have to be done to rerol a alt and most people will dread having to repeat the tutorial, it will get old fast.
Granted the game to real easey to learn and in 11 levels I haven't died yet. Doesn't seem like to much in it. Run up to a mob and smash 1,2,3 and a few combo buttons and they're dead. Hopefully it will change after the long and boring tutorial. I have a month to see.
It is my second day of playing and it already pains me to play more than 1 hour or 2 at a time. Literaly pains me, my fingers are killing me. Anywho, each to there own. It's a free country and I'll express my thoughts freely. Maybe it will help some make their minds up alittle more before buying the game. everyone needs to hear both sides of it.
It would be a better offline game. Then I would all over it in a good way.

Agree...now a game like wow has loads of replayabilty , no wonder ppl still play after 3 years every day...It started with 6 starting zones, now has 8..and each zone has different quests, looks etc..different races..aoc only has 1 race=humans, 1 start zone,
In wow, you can level in just one map..without going to the other..if you want so..you still have 50% of the game to explore..you can play as allie or horde..so its yet again totally different looks and quests...
Anyone with a set of eyeballs has to agree..aoc replayabilty is close to 0 ( zero ) even comparing with wow at launch...thats why alot of ppl that you guys like to call trolls say that aoc is like a beautifull single player game..that has some multiplayer also..but its not a reall mmo...
I call those trolls realistic people with the feet on the ground and their eyes open...
Thank you. Even though I myself, can't stand WoW. My kids love it alot. If WoW would upgrade their graphics to that in par with Vanguard or AoC. Then I would be all over WoW like a bitch in heat.

Go make your endless parade of alts in WoW with its awesome starter zones . We dont want you in Conan.
Don't mix up "replayability" with "bad junkie habit"...

Infact i play wow for 3 years..and never played allie side so i just made a rogue..and its like starting a new game almost ofc...so i played 3 years 50% of the game..now im gonna start the other 50...
Because in other MMO you don't go through the same areas, right? Good attempt I suppose.

I wouldn t say no replayability, but there are alot of games where you can completely by pass areas all together. Though most of these games have been out awhile. I m sure AOC will get more areas etc so you can somewhat do this. I know in EQ2 at most levels i have had anywhere form 3 to 8 ish areas to go to not just a couple. I myself really like having an option and wouldn t like this at all. I haven t done anything higher then 20 in this game so i can t say personally but have read some people say it s still farely linear. That said some people like that in a game, point A to point B and not much in between.
To OP thankyou for verifying that you didn't mean 25% of the overall playtime, I think it was causing a fair bit of distraction
I agree that in terms of WoW (as has been mentioned with the multiple starting zones etc) AoC is IMO less replayable. However because the classes within AoC are more varied than WoW this may make the experience slightly easier.
People are all saying that level 1-20 is solo. It is solo both night time and daytime, but during the day the majority of the quests can be done in a group, it is in fact possible to level to 20 just on daytime quests, or even just on the night time quests. So here there is at least 2 paths

I'm not sure it is all that bad for alts...
You always start in the same place for sure and there are a number of quests that are the same that you will repeat.
However the destiny quests are different for each archtype. So doing each of these is kinda fun.
Once you leave Tortage you go to your homeland which is 1 of 3 starting cities. Largely these are also completely separate so again you won't do all 3 of them for any one character you will probably do just one and maybe a smattering of the other areas although I don't think you need to there is enough in any one city to level you up.
Beyond that I don't know. However for most MMORPGs I'm not sure this is a lot different. Most of them only have 1 or 2 paths that lead you to the top level. Vanguard is probably the only exception with it's large world there are many areas at any level you can explore...
But most games are not like vanguard or eq for that matter. Most recent games follow the wow formula and try to present a string of quest areas that you follow as you level up so that players don't become confused and wonder oh my what do I do next... AoC does follow the Wow model except it starts you in one location instead of different racial locations. It does however branch based on things I mentioned.

A segment of what someone said on another post. Both below areas. Boxed and written was wfrom other post. I for one agree.Newbie island is indeed linear, but it is designed as a guide, to ease you into the combat system and universe. I agree that the lack of open spaces makes the area seem more linear and dull then it actually is. I have enjoyed playing through it the first time (and a half) after that it gets boring.
