FunCom has a record of bad opening MMO's (look at Anarchy Online) but i thought they might have learned by this.
Well... guess what.... They did not.
They have closed the forums to the public at this time so new players can not read all the problems people are having. Funcom will not answer people problems via Email or in the forums.
There is a HUGE list of bugs that covers Thousands of threads. This game has the largest Tech Support Thread section I have ever seen on ANY game. Even games that have been live for years do not have as many complaits filed.
Everything from quests that do not work, people unable to make toons, zones trapping people so they cant log in, blue screens of death, not letting people in game that payed for early access, people getting 10 fps or lower on super gaming PC's, people suck in "Reading Content Errors", and on and on and on.
There is no way I could list them all there.
SO.. my question is "When will MMORPG.com cover the true story behind AoC?" or will they still be feeding us the same crap for months to come?
Comments
I was a beta-tester for Anarchy Online. I was there for its release in 2001.
I have been playing AoC since release.
The two games cannot be more different in my experience. AO was an unmitigated disaster. AoC is smooth as silk for me.
People may be having problems, but comparing the two release is absurd and completely asinine.
I'm glad you have had a good experiance, I really am, but it is not the same thing everyone is getting.
I too was in AO beta and AoC beta.
to me AoC was 10 times worse.
to each his own i guess

The ONLY reason a mmo company does that is when they have something to hide and they aren't finished with milking box sales yet.
See: Hellgate London for a very recent example.
I don't think Funcom would be too happy if MMORPG.com decided to run a story on how crappy AoC is. I think they generally tend to promote MMOs, even small ones.
If you want a story like that, check another website. There are PLENTY of blogs and reviews that go in great detail about AoC's faults.
So, when will MMORPG.com cover the true story behind AoC? Never. They aren't here for 'truth', they are here to provide news and promote new MMOs.
I 100% disagree that the bugs are software/hardware issues on the user side.
I'm running the game on a AMD 64 +3200, Nvidea 6600, 1 gig ram and XP.
most people would agree the above spec is total crap and out of date.
WELL... guess what?
I get 25-40 FPS anywhere in game and the game runs great for me. I personally have no complaints about the game.
BUT... HUGE amounts of people do and the fan boys are playing it down as if it is everyone elses problem and not FunComs.
the truth is "funcom messed up big time."
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
I wish them all the luck in the world and hope they do suceed "kid"
but the fact of the mater at this point is "AoC is a joke in MMo coding, and will be mocked by other
Lets hope they can fix this one fast becuase the posts of people canceling there subscriptions grows by the day
I'm almost tempted to pay $50 for the game box JUST to read the official forums.
Seems like a riot in there.
Okay... just throwing this out there... this guy is an Admin for Freeworld. Is that not a coincidence?
I've been playing this game for the past week, since EA. I have enjoyed every second of it. It's a RIDICULOUSLY smooth launch. The ONLY problem I have had with this game that really affects gameplay, is the spawn camping. Everything else is smooth a
s butter.
No offence but stop talking out your backside, my guild has 200 ppl in and there is maybe 5 people with tech issues and another 5 who thought the game was not what they expected, every one is having a blast.
Its a great game, if people were cancelling all over the place why did they just add 9 new servers today?
You need to come back with a realistic argument, because your viewpoint is way skewed.. just like "freeworld"..
well.. they did not add 9 new server today.
if you payed even a little attention to the game you would realize the 9 servers you mention are the ones they put up on day 1 of the launch and never put them in the patch notes until yesterday.
go read the offical forums and see the posts where they list the 9 STARTING DAY server names... they will be the same you are talking about (which where added on Tuesday, the day of launch)
Don't make the mistake of defining the vocal minority as "everyone".
(yes, you are a minority)
Another smart move by Funcom if true.
Spread the population thinner to make it harder for people to realize the zones are capped by only 48 people instead of 100 per instance as some poster here pointed out.

Indeed, FunCom conspiracy is still going strong. They are always trying to trick us, the players, whatever they do! but We won't let them will we??/sarcasm off
Desillusional much?
For a major MMO releae with 1 million subscribers I've found it to be pretty smooth. I don't think I've ever played an MMO on release that didn't have bugs.....
Closing the forums was the smartest thing FunCom did and exactly what I would have done. They looked at what the WoW forums look like. It's nothing, but bitching and complaining. The people that are enjoying the game are playing it not on the forums crying.
It just got released this week. It's a great game with bugs. Every MMO has them.
The real story has been covered. 8.8 rating.
WoW fanboi: "lolz 11.5 million customers, itz obviously da best"
McDonald's: over 1 billion burgers served
Game runs smooth as silk for me, only crashes about two or three times a day. I'm 36th and I take my time and enjoy all the different regions and areas to traverse. It feels very much like a single player rpg turned massive. I just hope they expand the lands even more and add ships and long travel routes by horse etc. It's farely easy to get around and Id like some options to ride a ship somewhere or ride long and hard to reach the next region on horse.

If only everyone reading message boards were so smart to realize this.
According to news release they shipped 700,000 for launch. This morning (saturday, 5/24) I passed by my local EB and the shelf behind the counter was still full of AoC boxes. Are you telling me they sold out all 700,000 boxes already and those are the 2nd shipments? In 3 days? Really?
But all in all this has been one of the best launches of a major title in years and just like every MMORPG before it, there will be growing pains the first few months.
I suspect a lot of peoples problems come from trying to run the game on systems 3+ years old and are mostly client side issues and not the game itself. You people that are so vitriolic towrd the game need to just go find a game that you like to play. AoC is a good game and it is a fun game.

Good luck finding a copy in the tores around here because where I live two of my friends cannot find any...they had to bite teh bullet and order online. The stores that did carry it sold out on the 20th and do not expect any new boxes until the 27th.

And yet people were complaining when another certain game coming out this year said they wouldn't have trash-filled no-use official forums. And 1 million subs in 4 days? Lol. What are you smoking, can I have some? 1 million BETA SIGNUPS. That's it.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

As to the game performance, Im rumming an AM2 6000+ X2 / 8600gts 512/ 4 gigs ram/ Vista Ult. etc etc/ I get same frame rate as you, no matter what I put my settings to, dx10 on or off , and performance is suprisingly good, for a new game. And not bad in general.
