Players being hit hard for AoC's bugs

Have you guys been hearing about the investigations going on? The latest exploit with money farming bug on items has it's own investigation team... They've already fixed the bug and wiped out entire guild banks and player banks, now they are looking into banning those involved for simply taking advantage of game play mechanic bugs that shipped with release. Sounds to me more like they think they are protecting RL laws or something rather then fixing and balancing a game. Twelve of my WoW friends moved over there and took advantage of the money exploit while it lasted, they had their guild bank emptied... which only half was from exploit, their personal bank emptied, all of their buddy list investigated, their accounts down for investigation, and emails from funcom that they may be banned. Talk about harsh. However after all of this I'm still watching and waiting to see if everything clears up and then I'll play.

Exploiting little is still exploiting. Cheaters need to get banned if they knew it was bug and still used it.

If your an engineer you need your credentials revoked at once with an excuse like that. since the typed language and all it's punctuation and proper form is needed in your plans, ideas or white papers you would publish/print. being misunderstood or having something not taken correctly would be disaster in your field of work.

How is it cheating? It was release version gameplay mechanics that they took advantage of... seriously it's a game. They didn't clear out Bank of America. I agree the gold they made should be taken but they should not be banned and they should not be bankrupt. The bug is fixed, it's not like they are gold farmers continuing to sell gold on ebay or anything.

Funcom doesn't take exploiters lightly and I'm glad. They should have thought of the consequences before they exploited.

Wow, that sounds great. I'm glad they're being that thorough and tough about it. It's reassuring for those of us that don't exploit.

Just the fact that you don't have a problem with this shows us the type of player you are. I hope they ban your account as well if you even play just for being associated with them. They should be banned and they should be bankrupt. Taking a part in exploits is a serious low and frowned upon, obviously the outrageous amounts the guild and their personal banks had clicked a light in funcom's head. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

That doesn't matter, to Funcom it's RL money they could possibly lose from the entire game becoming broken from exploiters.

When I see folks like this getting their just rewards, I think two things.  1. They'll be right back again trying to do the same crap, it won't change a thing.  and 2. If they're stupid enough to get caught exploiting and so weak that they disrespect themselves and other players to exploit then they deserve to be treated that way.  What makes them worthy of a second chance?  Think they'll learn the hard way?  Probably not.  Given the chance I expect they would f* up yet again and make the same mistake, go down the same path.

 

But yeah, do I think Funcom did the right thing? Hell yes.  The "perfect" thing they could have done was to not release the game with that exploit, but since they did...do you really honestly think they should just say "oh hur hur gee whiz guys since it was all our fault anyway for leaving the exploit so wide open for you guys to profit from, we should just all have a big rollicking lul about it and now now, don't do it again ok guys? Shucks, thanks, Funcom."

 

That's what it sounds like you're suggesting.

I agree with Funcom, if a bug is found and someone takes advantage and exploits it they should be banned.

they are merely receiving consequences for there actions, EVERYONE who plays MMO's now adays should know that exploiting is very strongly disliked and frowned upon, The people who created the game you exploit have whatever right they want to bann/purge your accounts for exploiting content that is in need of fix. Its there own fault for not thinking about the consequences. Althoug "The hammer/Aka bann" Is harsh, it is well within exceptable as in almost every MMO you can find an article in the TOS that covers exploitation in its general. Which includes any ingame/outgame usage. I know almost noone reads the TOS, but thats too bad, it is there.

Games have rules.  As does real life.  You break the rules (written or unwritten), you pay the consequences.  Any engineer would know that.

What you dont get is that when you enter a gamespace whether its "Just a game", Ethics still apply, Wrong is wrong, right is rigth, Sure its easier to get away with stuff ingames than you could ever imagine IRL, but If you take a peak at the TOS, exploiting is NOT ALLOWED, No exceptions, "Let the hammer fall" the hammer dont care if its fair.

What type of player I am? haha seriously you guys need to get a grip on reality. This is a game created for peoples enjoyment, to just get away from RL for a bit. You act as if they just murdered your family. No I'm not ok with them exploiting, exploits should be fixed and damages should be reversed. The gold made through exploits should be taken but that's it, they broke no law...

Nobody is acting like that.  If you can't tell the difference between how someone would react to that scenario and how they're responding to your posts with simple concise points...then you're beyond reasoning with and either trolling or incredibly irrational yourself.

well duh... they didn't break the law, so they aren't going to jail.  They broke the rules to the game, now they can't play it.  Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

As an engineer? If I saw a dollar on the street I'd ask around for who dropped it, in RL I have better ethics then most. However in a game I'll do what ever whenever although I don't like to cheat, I like a challege..  but if faced with an exploit where I stand a certain distance from a merchant and sell things and see the item is still in my inventory I would most likely try it again, it's a game after all.

TOS is a legal document that the law can enforce, and legal documents are very real. While i understand "Banning" is harsh, There is a very thin thread for tolerance when dealing with tens of thousands of people across many servers. The GM's/Developers dont have time to get every single person excuse or reason for why they did what they did, that is like trying to destroy an ant colony 1 ant at a time, "There method is more of a ant pesticide, AKA, kill them all at the same time" Its not perfectly fair, but its within just bounds even though this is "Just a game" so really they are "Only getting banned" Its not like they are being arrested.
