I just started playing, and I am the only newb on the server it seems..

image I just got the platinum edition, I jumped around to about 8 servers, and I am always the only one on.  I have run into a handful of players, what fun is it to play an online game with only yourself?  Is it always this way?  I am a bit frustrated because I paid for the game and there is no one around.  Can someone please tell me what is going on?  Is there a newb server I am missing?  thanks!

my suggestion is to do killtasks (from named gaurds), its a fast way to lvl up to 20, after you get to 20 you will see alot more people around.
there just arent that many lower lvl people

you can try to find a guild for the server, then you have peoples around you!

  • numaticnumatic Member UncommonPosts: 675

You will find that noone plays under lvl 20. You will very rarely run into a person below lvl 20 because of the /level command. And even after 20, it's still incredibly hard to find a grp. My 32 PBT runie on merlin(biggest server) cannot find a grp if his life depended on it.

Joining a guild helps, but basically only for PL'ing.

I too had the problem of Findiing groups or people for that matter in DAOC....This was the number one reason why my trial didnt turn into a subscription... Absolutly no fun in playing a ONLINE game by your damn self....

  • Most people tend to do the battlegrounds at 1-5, then do kill tasks for level 8, if they need gear they sometimes hit Nisse/Tomb of Mithra/Muire tomb. But anymore the game really does lack lower level population. Always ask questions, even if someone says your annoying its better that your first character be considered annoying then gimping yourself, or not learning the ropes for Realm vs Realm Dungeons and class tactics.

Actually thats a great idea: A Newbie Server!

Basically a server that all characters start on, and stay there till level 20 or 25 or so, then they are booted off and get to pick the server they want to go to. This way you have all of your new player community in one location, which means they won't feel alienated. You don't take away the /level command fromt he vetrans or change it in any way. Also it would help the CSRs out alot because all of the new players are colocated which means most of the people who are asking questions or having problems will be in one place.

Now, we have this great idea, which is pointless because it'll never be used. ;)

Hmm I play the European version of Daoc and there are quite a few newcomers on there.  I can't judge the US version but maybe you should try Midgard or Albion as a realm.  Traditionally albion is overpopulated so the chances of finding low levels there is a tad higher than when you play as a hib.  Also try the /who level command.  That way you can see who is averagely your level.

I do hope you find some players to group with very soon cos Daoc is a fun game.  You can always try to get into a guild and normally the players on there will help you out.  I wouldn't advice to let them powerlevel you too much because that takes away the fun out of the game.  Besides the only way to get to know ur char is by playing it yourself.

    Cheers,

I never had any problems finding groups. And I play one of the most unpopulated severs. The tick is knowing where to go.

Be sure to keep on lfg, and always check it for others. You'll quickly learn where the hot spots are. Generally dungeons.

Yes there aren't allot of low level players, but people make new alts all the time, and will want to group. You just need to be in the right place. You'll find once you can get groups started generally people start showing up out of the wood work.

People are also more willing to group with healers/tanks than a "uber l33t skillz" stealth class that's hoping "pwn in da gank gurops". No one likes those.

Well, with you being american and having probs finding grps, i guess you've answered my questions about returning :( If you are having problems i would too with being a brit. When i quit in March salisbury plains (alb) would be only populated by 7 or 8 noobs....where when i started playing 2 years ago would be home to 7 or 8 full groups.

You could try different realms on each server. Some realms may be more populated for that server. or try ign.com daoc forums to get an idea of who plays them.

What server are you playing on? I had written a whole response to this yesterday but it never posted and then I couldn't log back in because the system kept saying the boards were undergoing maintenance.

I was going to say that on all three servers I play on (one for each realm) the lvl 20 - 24 bg is always full of people. Everytime I take a toon to those bg's people are also looking to get an xp group together to either gain higher lvls for that bg or move up to other bg's.

I prefer the smaller servers, but that is my opinion.

You can go from level 1 to 20 pretty quickly doing kill tasks. Also in my opinion kill tasks are easier to do in the SI starter towns (Aegir for Mid, Grove for Hib and the harbor in Alb).

I think if you can make it to level 20 and get into Thidranki you'll find more people.

I also believe a n00b server would help tremendously. They did that on EQ with Stromm and it has been one of the most successful servers since. You are right about Mythic not considering such an option.

That was the heyday of DAOC the year after release...

My god the numbers of people on the plains was amazing... Never at a loss for a group.

Those days are my fond memopries of the game.

My fondest memories of the game were at the low levels too. I took various classes from 1 to 50 going through the same spots/dungeons and never got bored once. Daoc offered a great chance of meeting people and having a laugh. Compare this to SWG's "solo grouping" experience  is like comparing chalk and cheese.

Even at 50 i would still like PVE groups....but on my very last group, out of the 8 that were in it 4 were bots.

Daoc will be around for a while longer...i just wish they hadn't turned it into a uber loot fest.

If you have a few mates who could try this game at the same time as you so you're never alone, you will have a great time in one of the best mmorpg's i've ever played.

Not too surprised about your being the only newb.....DAoC's problem is they have really ignored the new and the casual player when making the game until very recently.  Therefore the new areas were pretty much barren on many servers.  Your best bet (unfortunately) is to make your characters on the overpopulated servers, you are much more likely to find someone to play with there :(

This is really sad, because when I first played the game (pretty close to the initial release) the lower levels were a TON of fun. You would meet new people, everyone was trying to figure/help out, and all around it was a better game. ToA with its 30+ requirement just to be involved in the content really spoiled the game. NF is trying to bring back the new player, and the "free level" system is attempting to help the casual gamer, but honestly 3 years into the game may be 3 years too late. Especially since the newer MMORPGs have practically topped DAoC in every way except RvR.

I am also a newb on the European server. I play on the Excalibur server as a Hibernian Hero and i dont have any problems finding other people of the same level. Im playing for about 3 weeks now.

I played the U.S. 7 day Trial on the Galahad server and i didn't have any problems on that server too.

On the Us server i also played a Hibernian Hero and i usually was around the Lough Derg region (Mag mell for instance) and when i was about level 10 and 11 i went to the Connacht region and i was mostly found killing mobs in the Muire Tomb.

I hope this will help you somewhat image

The game has pretty much been that way since 2002.

Unless you are a high level, you probably will have pretty bad luck with groups.

With the /level command for anyone with a 50(which is pretty much almost anyone), the game really discriminates against newbies.
