Nope, followed it for almost a year, never got into beta, read "trolls" post for about 2 days in EA. Decided ok well I don't care let me make up my own mind. Played up to 42. Quit because it's a steamy pile of shit.
I wont go into the massive issues I found as personal issues to quit the game, they have been posted here on MMORPG now about 8000 times.
It's cool tho because I really don't care if people play this "game".
What I do care about is the AoC fans on this particular forum acting like people who play the game and detest it have no right to post their thoughts, no matter how many times they post it over and over.

AOC has shipped a million copies. This is a positive thing AOC has many people who enjoy playing. Yet another positive thing. Many game reviews have given good reviews to the game. - Well, few of us trust their opinions, but it beats getting slammed hard so call it a positive. AOC has many people decrying it and deciding not to sub. A negative thing. We don't know how many people for sure will stick around for a few months. - Just a simple fact. If many players decide to stick around and subscribe, and the numbers exceed 500K I think FC will decide to publish this fact. If the numbers are lower, I think they'll keep it quiet like Turbine did with LotRO. Just my opinion.

When aoc fades into the background, and it will, we will probably marvel not only at the low caliber gameplay, but the fact they utilized the hype machine so strategically to soften the landing of what they had to know was a laggy, incomplete, poorly designed game by extracting money from the subscribers without actual access. Sure they're shipping a lot of units initially, the hype machine effects reverberate for a while because of pre-orders, the fact that most people don't visit forums, a vaccuum of new releases and of course, the draw of the license itself, but fortunately for us, word of mouth is still king. All the marketing bells and whistles in the world can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

Anything that sells. It is the same way with WoW though and any MMo. You highlight the great points of the game. If you look at WoW prior to BC North America had over 3.5million subscribers. It is now down to around 2 million, but the Chinese market has picked up the American slack in accounts due free accounts and to the cheap 2 pennies per hour fees.
You can spin numbers and stuff anyway you want, and it is what they don't tell you that you have to explore like AoC shipping 1million units, but how many have sold? Probly around 500k (Decent release over the US and UK, but not groundbreaking as it has had more hype than any other MMo for the past 2 years next to WAR which isn't released yet).
Actually EA Mythic have consistantly announced their beta numbers several times now officially, you will see from history that AoC has talked numbers 4 times in the past year. FC dont badger you with numbers like a cold caller.
Its a news release it states pretty clearly that its "shipped" units. Pretty straight forward, now I can understand about warhammer fans getting a little 'testy' because they have nothing to play right now, there is no need to be jaded and negative just like TheSheikh.

Most of this success is as a result of the popularity of World of Warcraft. The MMO industry circa 2004 when WoW came out was a niche industry. WoW blew up over the course of a couple years. Because of that, far more people know about the existence of this genre than did back in the mid 2000's. There are a lot of disgruntled WoW players looking for a new game. A few games are offering a WoWish style of approach (Fantasy themed) and those disgruntled players are jumping on it in droves.
Ugh.... WoW came out in 2005.. and this has nothing too do with WoW at all. There are games that were very successful in their time. The MMO industry started with games like Neverwinter Nights, DAoC, Everquest and Ultima Online. Anarchy Online was also a big hit.
World of Warcraft did nothing. Heck, the only credit you can give Blizzard is they attracted more 12yrs and retards that can't afford good pcs too the market. Now we have morons that can't play AoC on their P3 whining on these boards.
So ya, WoW did nothing but thanks. We would still have games like AoC, WAR etc today. Since Funcom and Mythic were in the MMO business long before Blizzard. Blizzard just wanted a piece of the pie and entered in themselves.

WoW open up MMORPGs to many unaware to the genre through a fun game and many Advetisements in US, Asia and Europe- people play WoW- people get bored with WoW-people leave WoW-people look for new MMO.
Ever since TBC I think there have been many MMO players that were opened up to the genre of game.Which makes those new players more aware of the genre and when done look for a new game kind of like that Dr.Seus book with the little alien things polluting one planet and going to the next,people wanted a new planet (MMO) and Age of Conan turned heads for many of them. When WoW came out MMOs werent very big but in the end WoW made the MMO genre a gigantic market ready for the plucking. As WoW began to grow it could afford more advertisements and production of games for other countries makeing a possible 8.5mill more people aware of this genre of game.

Active accounts after 3 weeks isn't reflective of box sales after 3 weeks. I know of at least 6 people(on a long stag week) all have the game and not installed.

Nope, followed it for almost a year, never got into beta, read "trolls" post for about 2 days in EA. Decided ok well I don't care let me make up my own mind. Played up to 42. Quit because it's a steamy pile of shit.
I wont go into the massive issues I found as personal issues to quit the game, they have been posted here on MMORPG now about 8000 times.
It's cool tho because I really don't care if people play this "game".
What I do care about is the AoC fans on this particular forum acting like people who play the game and detest it have no right to post their thoughts, no matter how many times they post it over and over.
They have just as much right to bash it over and over as all of you do to come in here and praise it day after day.

I see Titanic in the future of AoC not a F-22.

But, I think AoC will publish if their subscriber numbers exceed 300,000 within the second month - just lowering the thermometer a bit.
Shipping = Doesn't mean anything.
Sales = Means almost nothing, to the success and profit of an MMO title.

That is when a company starts making the money, and keeping people happy and on-board is what MMOs are geared towards, because that is how they make money.
So before the fanbois start getting all girly and excited about boxes being shipped, AoCs success can ONLY be judged AFTER a period of 6 months. Funcom knows this even if you don't.

It would have been really nice if WAR could have released the same time as AoC just to stop the constant BS arguments that no one can win and few have valid points in. Whats more we still have to listen to this all over again when WAR does eventually hit the shelves.

When aoc fades into the background, and it will, we will probably marvel not only at the low caliber gameplay, but the fact they utilized the hype machine so strategically to soften the landing of what they had to know was a laggy, incomplete, poorly designed game by extracting money from the subscribers without actual access. Sure they're shipping a lot of units initially, the hype machine effects reverberate for a while because of pre-orders, the fact that most people don't visit forums, a vaccuum of new releases and of course, the draw of the license itself, but fortunately for us, word of mouth is still king. All the marketing bells and whistles in the world can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

Anything that sells. It is the same way with WoW though and any MMo. You highlight the great points of the game. If you look at WoW prior to BC North America had over 3.5million subscribers. It is now down to around 2 million, but the Chinese market has picked up the American slack in accounts due free accounts and to the cheap 2 pennies per hour fees.
You can spin numbers and stuff anyway you want, and it is what they don't tell you that you have to explore like AoC shipping 1million units, but how many have sold? Probly around 500k (Decent release over the US and UK, but not groundbreaking as it has had more hype than any other MMo for the past 2 years next to WAR which isn't released yet).
Actually EA Mythic have consistantly announced their beta numbers several times now officially, you will see from history that AoC has talked numbers 4 times in the past year. FC dont badger you with numbers like a cold caller.
Its a news release it states pretty clearly that its "shipped" units. Pretty straight forward, now I can understand about warhammer fans getting a little 'testy' because they have nothing to play right now, there is no need to be jaded and negative just like TheSheikh.

Ugh.... WoW came out in 2005.. and this has nothing too do with WoW at all. There are games that were very successful in their time. The MMO industry started with games like Neverwinter Nights, DAoC, Everquest and Ultima Online. Anarchy Online was also a big hit.
World of Warcraft did nothing. Heck, the only credit you can give Blizzard is they attracted more 12yrs and retards that can't afford good pcs too the market. Now we have morons that can't play AoC on their P3 whining on these boards.

WoW open up MMORPGs to many unaware to the genre through a fun game and many Advetisements in US, Asia and Europe- people play WoW- people get bored with WoW-people leave WoW-people look for new MMO.
Ever since TBC I think there have been many MMO players that were opened up to the genre of game.Which makes those new players more aware of the genre and when done look for a new game kind of like that Dr.Seus book with the little alien things polluting one planet and going to the next,people wanted a new planet (MMO) and Age of Conan turned heads for many of them. When WoW came out MMOs werent very big but in the end WoW made the MMO genre a gigantic market ready for the plucking. As WoW began to grow it could afford more advertisements and production of games for other countries makeing a possible 8.5mill more people aware of this genre of game.
