A little poll

I voted, mostly because I find your poll to be very good in covering most possible options.  You did well to include varying branches of "happy" and "hate".  You even included two for people who haven't played.  I honestly wish more polls around here (those which relate to player opinion) were as well done as this.

Thanks Gishgeron, I tried to give as many options as possible, and I still feel like I might have left something out

I hope the moderators of this forum might want to sticky this, since there are alot of opinion-posts about AoC.

The game had been out long enough for the first serious opinions to form I reckon.

I ended up on "good, but a little disappointed"

i think it's a great game, and what Funcom focused on was the new stuff - the improved graphics, the more hands on combat, the more adventure like quests ( at least in the beginning of the game).

But I feel a bit disappointed that they didn't decide to polish more on the "standard" stuff in the game, - it seems unfinished or below standard.

I'm hoping they will fix these things in the time to come, but they might have benefitted from delaying release till fall this year, or even further if necessary.

However, if AoC may not be the best game ever, I still think it's a step in the right direction, and that is enough for me to continue my subscription. That and the fact that I'm having fun playing it ofc, no point playing a game if it isn't fun.

It really pushes MMO's and computer gaming to whole new levels.

The depth of gameplay at 40+ is mind blowing

    I play all ghame

Initially I was thrilled. Now, at level 62, I'm already wanting to take a break. I didn't even log in yesterday.

For the most part, I'd like to think I played casually. I did play a lot the first weekend but I've only played a max of 4 hours a day during the week.

I'm just bored right now and have no desire to grind out 18 more levels. I'll gladly check when more patches are out.

I guess that could go under "Haven't tried, but want to try".

Unfortunately i used almost all the spots for the poll (can only hold 10 options). Can't edit it though after it's been started unfortunately

I've only reached some lvl 36 (I think), theres been many days since launch that I haven't logged in, - not because I didn't want to play, but for other RL stuff. Kinda  busy with life atm

So I'm quite the casual I guess. I'm also looking forward to the patch for the lvl 50-60 I think it was... so I don't have to grind more than necessary.

All in all I'm taking my good time to level, and that might be just as well, so that Funcom can work on some polishing before I get much further.

That's the thing. I didn't feel like I was rushing since the game levels faster than most. You could even say I was addicted (but not to the point where I *had* to play the game). I was having honest to goodness fun. Then the quests started to slow... then I just got bored.

Oh well. I got come enjoyment out of it at least. At least Funcom acknowledged that there is a problem for the 50-60 ish levels and it's nice to see them working on it.

Yea this game sure make you level fast compared to other mmo's.

For those who like to spend time leveling I guess it might be a bad thing,

but for those that want to get to the end-level, and start on the raiding and engame PvP it's a good thing i figure.

But I have to say I was surprised at how fast the leveling went, lvl 1-5 in somewhat 4-5 minutes, - I guess you could do that in WoW too, but the next levels go really fast too.

...or is it that we have became so used to MMO's setup, that we immediately know what to do to improve and don't fool around as much anymore...

After all it's a 17/18 + game, with WoW being 12+ you have alot of people being introduced to MMO for the very first time in their life, while at 18+ you might be more experienced with MMO's and more determined as to what you want to achieve...

Stil it's quite the change from AO,- I wasn't there to begin with, but a friend of mine told me it was hell to level up in that game at first.

I was a tester in Beta and I loved the game then despite its flaws and i still do love it!

I played it in Beta and wasn't sure if I would play it once it was released. There was a lot to like but the beta client was very slow. A number of positive comments about the release code made me give it a try and I'm quite happy that I did. While the system requirements for AoC are relatively higher than some other MMO games out at this time it's nothing too bad if your system isn't more than a year or two old. The release code is much better in performance and the quality of the graphics.

Game play is going to be very subjective and a lot of people who have played WoW may not get past the first 20 levels or so since compared to that game and a few others AoC is a much more controlled game. By this I mean that you are lead through the early stages of the game with relatively few options and choices. It's a bit like playing one of the older D&D games where the story was very linear.

However, the story and lore here is quite interesting and it does get you into the mood and style of the game. The quests are about right in difficulty and time to accomplish and overall the first 20 levels will go by quite quickly.

AoC certainly has taken many of the ideas from other earlier games and tried to improve upon them. How well they have succeeded remains to be seen as AoC is still very much a work in progress.

If you have a newish computer and want to try your hand at something that is a bit more grown up and unknown then AoC is definitely worth a look.

That depends what you define as acceptable i guess:

Some would still say 50% bad in a game is not acceptable, others would say it is.

Of those that want to try it there might be some that find it acceptable and some that doesn't,

and also should we count those that don't intend to try it at all, since they base they're judgement on someone elses reviews and opinions?

well, that topic was a sticky in the AoC forums and it was basically monitoring which aspects of the game you liked

and if you thought the state of game should have been better

and i agree, it should have been better, but the majority, including me, like the game

so funcom DOES have something to lose, and im pretty sure theyre going to make that "not happen"

all in all, the poll showed us what we all thought, and is as such fairly useless

but it did show some nice points such as that people like the PvP aspect so far

(though the PvP is somewhat hindered by the lack of class balance)

oh well, i have to say "good job so far funcom, it should have been better, but i like it"

    something like that

I think the game is good enough, but the thing is that I can't seem to stick to a MMO for very long nowadays. The questing thing gets old and repetetive fast, in this game and in most others I've tried. I managed to get to level 20 cause I had that as a goal - to leave the starting area. But when I did, I just couldn't go on anymore. What I like most in this game is the fights.

Also I am a huge fan of Conan, the novels, the world and so on (not the movies) so there are some issues with the magic and such that's in the game, it doesn't seem right to the background. But all in all it's a good game, for a MMO that is.

  • I do not even want to know what terrible game play and bugs and stuff of an unplayable nature the people who voted better than expected.

  • GhistGhist Member Posts: 275

I don't know how it's possible but everyday a new bug seems to be coming out.

For some reason Funcom has handicapped female toons.

Maybe in 6 months they will have a game close to what they promised.

    Waiting for the next thing

    Never played AO?

Funcom is known for breaking things without even patching first. Its kinda their thing really.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

I am genuinely shocked at how many people here say this game isn't good. So far I've gotten 2 guys 40+ with little to no bugs. I love the combat, though people who INSIST on clicking the basic attack buttons with the mouse just end up severely handicapped, whole thing was designed around using the basic attacks via Q123E.

Maybe I'm one of the few that plays the game on a computer that isn't 4 years old and not trying to crank the settings to max, then blaming any problems resulting on devs.

I see all these people mentioning bugs that I have never seen. Makes me wonder what I'm doing right and/or wrong.

Also quite amusing when people shit on aspects of the game when their rampent in every other MMOG, and somehow AoC is worse for it. Until a good popular game comes up with better shit, you can't deduct a game for having current aspects of the genre.

    I voted Good but disappointed.

(forgive spelling et al, I am on a high dose of vicodin  and having trouble with simple manual skills)

I am a little disappointed at how AoC didn't move farther away from Wow in its styling.  The classes and skill trees and especially the F-ing Quests are all wow, a more beautiful and well made wow, but still just another eq-clone.

I have about had it with the wow-style quest games.  Running back and forth across worlds from !'s to ?'s for Xp isn't a game that I enjoy.  Exactly when did games fall apart to where this was considered content?  (Actually it fell apart in Eq which just changed to worse graphics and sillier sounds and became wow)  Content is content, 'missions' to run back and forth are NOT content.  And don't tell me that the story line is worth putting in pizza deliveries, it isn't.  None of the childish plot lines writen by computer dorks can be classified as quality literature.  If I want lit, I will read, I want to play a game and not run back and forth in this stupid wow-eq-clone genre.

Bring Back Asheron's Call style games!
