Gonna make something to eat so will leave you rambling on.
Have never in my life seen a person jump in real combat. So yes glued to the ground makes some points. But the issue is that you don't like it and i don't mind and so this discussion is meaningless. Cause none of us will budge.
I would like to know what game it is your taking about?
Or youre just bashing all pointnclick mmos?
You are confusing bunny hopping with skills?
My definition of skills in a mmo would be more in the line of know your class know your enemy class know your game but i guess jumping around like a retard takes alot og knowledge.
Enjoy the few games you're able to since you have such a narrow definition of fun.
Cause most of the MMORPGs w/o a jump button and favor clickfestness are the low budget, asian mmorpgs, and craptastic overall. I'll pass on those runescape games.

I'm bashing all games with clickfest movements as your only option and with no jump button.
I've played Lineage 2, ArchLord, Knight Online, SRO, and a few others for 1hr before uninstalling due to the major lack of fun... durr.
I agree in a way. my first mmo was runescape which uses only the 2 mouse buttons. then i went to guildwars and was chuffed to use more than just the mouse. then I tried wow and at first loved the game, this was because I loved the freedom of movement jumping, diving into water, could go anywhere no load screens/barriers made it fell like a world just like runescape did. however I quickly got bored of wow even though I loved the movement controls. so movement controls don't make a game. If i haven't played both to death already i'd rather sub to runescape or guildwars than wow, wow had great movement/world immersion but is a very simple game that gets old quick.

Depends on your definition of jumping..... just up and down, no. A lunge in fencing is often a mini hop forward to extend your reach and hopefully suprise an opponent.
point an click sucks. i HATE not being able to jump. but i also HATE jumpers in pvp. come on.. if you really get into a fight you cant jump over someones head. especialy in heavy armor an weapons lol. characters should really only be able to jump a few "feet". really.. if i had a sword an some jackass was jumping around im still going to slice that guy anyways lol infact it would be easier cuz hes in the air an cant doge or do anything else. thats how it should be in pvp. then it would force people to actually play an use the skills, fight toe to toe or use abilitys they have to get away (slow/mez/stun) or whatever. i dont care what anyone says, jumping ISNT a skill, its noob.
I played a little of both types of games. I prefer the free roaming games. All click fest games (except Guild Wars) have horrible simple interfaces that you can barely customize. You are forced to point and click to move. Your character does not auto target the person attacking them. You spend more time trying to click on the proper enemy or goof around with the camera than you do fighting sometimes. The worst are the games that put camera controls on the mouse with the point and click movement.
I played Wow for a bit as a free roaming and it is much better. It would be perfect if they had a damn collission box on their characters. Right now character just spam everything whilethey dash about randomly and jump randomly. It is stupid. It is FPS stupidity gaming. I hated it in FPS games and hate it in WoW. then these gus say they used massive skill to kill you when in reality they never reacted to a thing you did, they just spam pressed buttons.
WoW has helped casters fight the problem by allowing them to cast on targets behind them. Players are given tools for easy selection of targets and quick effecient use of abilities on the targets you want. You will not spend half of your fight trying to click the right person.
I really don't see a reason for jumping, if you'll not play a game because of one feature that'll end up under implemented anyways... I'm glad you aren't playing that game and will enjoy it much more without you, it's people with your mind set* that introduce some of the worst updates anyways.
*add this feature or die, judging by how you're talking you've likely been on the wrong side of this mind set a few times yourself if you've played MMOs long enough.
It's a major flaw in modern games. It's a feature that will make/break a game with a lot of people. Jumping makes the gaming experience more realistic and it's useful in pve/pvp. A game is garbage if it can't allow the player to interact with his environment by jumping.
I'm still not convinced of your argument. I've seen vidoes of WoW pvp and wasn't impressed. Same with DDO.
It looks like a jumping bean fest.
As far as a game having more depth if it has jumping, you mistake the idea of the additional axis as being necessary to options. Quite frankly, if you are basing the idea of jumping over one fence in order to lose an opponent as such a major necessity to depth then it's clear that you have very little experience with what group pvp is all about.
To illustrate, let's take the game of Go. Go is considered one of the most strategically based games of all times. Some would argue that it has more depth than chess.
But what do you do? You place stones. That's it. You just place stones.
Pvp is about mustering your forces, using the element of surprise, know how to shut your opponent down, how to route them, how to mislead them. You don't need to jump in order to achieve this. Jumping is just a movement option. No more. Your ability to jump will not take advantage of cover (which is more or less effective in today's games) locating your opponent's weak spots and taking advantage of the chaos of battle.
Now, I would agree if you were to say that things like cover and postioning should have more bearing in pvp games. But jumping is just jumping. I don't recall wishing that I could jump in any of the large scale battles that I took part in. I do recall us holding them off in a doorway, sending a larger superior force through a narrow stairway so as to gain a foothold, surround and then taking out healers while the dps players tried to bask in their own glory.
If they could jump I don't think it would have helped them.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

well thats good because CS and WoW is that right games for you.
But that dont make games you dont like garbage just because u cant use wsad and jump.

i think games should make jumping more realistic. also not be able to jump if you have heavy armor.
