There is nothing confirming that, this is just speculation for now, though Mythic has already said they have 4-5 expansions planned!  I'm sure they would love to add more races and classes just as they did with DAoC.

As far as payed expansions, those will always happen...updates are free cause its mainly just servicing and expanding on existing content, whereas an expansion is all new areas, etc....so yeah you have to pay for the content they built....heh

I have a personal email from Paul saying Skaven are on the top of the list for adding races.  So I think they will be in.

I think you are a little too in the box there.

You could have Khorne melee and rogue types, so you have 3 of the archetypes (rogue/dps warrior/tank).  Now you could either just do without magic for this faction or you could do something else... like they did with the dwarves who rely on engineering.  You could just have warriors who throw spears, or mutants that toss rocks, or whatever to serve as the "ranged class."

Or you could make an alliance.  There are certainly other factions which are not balanced per se under the great banner of chaos.  You could simply merge Khorne with another faction and have them work together.  There are certainly examples of Khorne worshippers using other factions either as slaves or to serve some other temporary need.

Also let's not forget simple demonic possession........  the possibilities there are pretty much infiinite (or darn close anyway).

It's Chaos, chaos is not supposed to be balanced.

The other factions should eventually be included. Those who choose to serve Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh, or Chaos Undivided can deal with the imbalance.

For that matter, they should have just gone with Chaos Undivided as the starting point

My only complaint with WAR is that it does not include even half the WAR universe.

They have to leave room for an expansion.  It's business.  Better to put the game out sooner than wait another year to fit in content that can be marketed as a great reason to buy an expansion.

You're exactly right.  Like it or not, MMOs make a killing off expansions so they have to leave some races for expansion.

I think expansions are the biggest shock to the new MMO players. Thoes of us that have been playing MMO's for years know/expect expansions. To the first time player in the genra I can kind of understand how expansions would piss them off. They are not used to paying for the game box, then paying a monthly fee and then you tell them they get to shell out box money again 1-2 years after the initial release. The only thing to compare it to on console games are games like GTA. Putting out mutiple games that the core is still the same with just a few new features.

That said there are alot of us not overly familiar with the WAR and are wanting this game Purly for its gameplay. I think the current selection of races are PERFECT to get thoes of us into the lore. It wont be overwelming and by the time the first race gets added we will have a better understanding of the WAR IP.

You never know, games like Lineage2 releases huge expansions which almost equivalent to WoW's leech of king update every 6 months or so for free and they are on 7th expansion now I believe.

Turbine was also good about that. They still add a good amount of content for free but have gone to the 1 a year expansion as well.  Its rare in the MMO market to see huge free content updates. Maybe mythic will but its hard to see it. If nothing else because of EA. I am fine with paid expansions though so long as the content offered in them is a good chunk of an upgrade. EA will stay out of the development I'm sure, but they want money and expansions are great money.

P.S. I have nothing against EA the way so many do. Just pointing out they are a giant corp and they are all about the money, thus paid expansions are a given.

if you've ever played the table top games most of the other species would be hard to create as playable characters I believe all of them will be NPC's or at least most of them. Much like the did between WOW and its expansion they had to figure out how to intergrate different species which I think I've just about quoted half the people there. If you've played warcraft 3 you'll notice that there are a lot of species in the game the fact of the matter is their not going to make them all into playable characters. In fact there is very little lack in armies.

Here are a couple of quotes from Marc Jacobs on a recent interview.  The interview started out specifically about crafting but he shed some light about their design philosophy for the game which would apply in this case to why all the races aren't initially available.  Read:

" I’d rather have fewer things out there now, and add more, than have more things and have to take them away."

"We wanted to have fewer rather than more. If you have fewer things in that are great, you are better off than having more in that are not."

"Once you start taking things away from players, and start telling them you can have all this cool stuff for the first couple of weeks? And yeah you had fun, but whoops here come the major balance nerfing changes? The players will be justifiably pissed off. You can avoid some of that pain by being a little more circumspect on what you chose to put in your game at launch."

As I said he was specifically being questioned about crafting in WaR during the interview, but those quoted parts taken out of context can show how they feel about things in general and I would say how they feel about races as well.  It's not the first time they've spoken about not wanting to put stuff in too fast just for it to be "there" but have it be unbalanced and have to nerf everything to hell and piss everyone off.  So they would rather put a few things done right in at first then add to that later as they go.  I can live with that.

If Turbine didnt' give out their expansions mostly for free they'd be Borked especially as far as DDO is concerned.   Their 'free' expansions are also incredibly small compared to an EQ or WoW expansion.   Though supposedly they're working on a really big Expansion for LotR which you do have to pay for.  Turbine is completely unique though in this free content add ons...but you can see how by not making fresh revenue off of said free content that its limited in what they give you and the time between them is rather lengthy too.

Lineage 2 is done by an asian company they have completely different philosphies for MMOs in Asia then they do here.   They also have several million players most of which are in Asia and they pay per session or some such jazz over there.

I'm all for free small content things but having  a great big huge content package and paying for it is fine with me too.   I'd rather have a mixture of both Free Content updates & Great big Expansions ...kind of like what Blizz does.  EQ2 sort of does this but not nearly as often.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

Why wouldnt they include the other races? Just because tomb kings and the ogre kingdom dont really fit clear cut with des. and order sides doesn't mean they cant still be played. Maybe they will open up a third side? And why shouldn't they? It would give the game a fresh style of play a few years down the line and allow people who have been playing humans or orks for the past 4 or 5 years to get a totally different style of game play.

And just because the lore of the game might not fit the lore of the table top game isn't a reason to hold back. they have already changed a lot of the lore to fit. for example, dark elves wouldn't side with the orks or chaos in the table top lore, but they changed it to fit the game. They could ( and should) do the same for other races they left out.

Personally I really want Bretonnians to come out because i love my 2000 pt table top Bretonnian army!!!
