With 3 70's in WoW...I play many other mmos.
have a 70 holy priest, 70 affliction lock, 70 frost mage.
I bought this game and truely appreciate many aspects and differences compared to WoW.
If the expansion had been released I might not have written this.
Just wanna hear from you why you wouldn't try this game knowing graphics/combat/sound are far superior?
Comments
Majority can not play this game because they lack the computer to play it. So i would say that answers your question for the majority of WoW players because they do not need to upgrade their computer worth a damn.
I also have a 70 frost mage but I decided to quit. I downloaded WotLK Beta and tried it, and I can say that it is worse then BC. The Landscape is extreamly rubish and such. But if you feel like playing with 14 Death Knights in your raid, go ahead ^.^
na most betaed it and it wasnt to what they hoped but there making very important move (at least to us gamer)mainly in the last 2 update like a bit of pvp and a little less bug
i do hope they dont stop there cause they got to remember this is an online game it means its supposed to interract with other through either ganking rule pvp-questing and all the evil ,neutral and good event that can happen in a game.(evil grin)
I don't hold it against anyone if they have nothing better to do or for some reason still enjoy the game, but for me...
Sitting on my ass to run instnaces, farm mobs 1000s of times over so i can be grinding 1000 more badges, more gems, more enchant mats, another set of pvp gear, another monotonous 10 levels, and yet another set of raid bosses for the fancy new over sized T7 shoulders.... no thanks.
I need a fresh new game to play, something where i enjoy everything i'm doing. Am enjoying a lot of the aspects of this game so far. I am happy with my purchase thus far.
ya your right about that i got an 8800 gt and i can say that my computer is working overtime just to generate the game can you imagine playing it lol
they probably will have to put some flex in this game graphic
top end is perfect choice but low end isnt even close to be low enoughnot with 48 other crasy horse this game will lag a lot if they dont correct their target graphic
can you add utra-low and extreme -low setting on this game youy will need it
The opposite actually. The latest content is old already and with WLK still a ways off AoC was appealing just so to avoid having to run another set of boring daily quests for gold, rep, etc that I don't need anyway.
Plus I'm not really enjoying the general direction that WoW is moving in as far as PvP vs PvE content. The changes to raiding that were introduced with TBC have just gotten worse I feel that guilds and the social aspect of playing has suffered as a result.
Trust me, stick with WoW if you've got 70's, just buy WOTLK.
I quit playing WoW, and I'm not really interested in going back, but if I had to choose between AOC and WoW right now, it's no contest.
AOC is only going downhill.
Why do you say that? I've been playing AOC and they patch more frequently than anyone.
Every new mmo patches frequently after launch, just because they have to patch a lot now (to get the fixes out asap), does not mean that they will continue to do so down the line. This seems like a silly question. a)most folks that would've left WoW for AoC left WoW a long time ago. b)WotLK won't be out for months, in fact, it'll be lucky to hit this year. Blizz is going to aim to just beat out WAR and WAR won't hit until first q 2009 if it's really lucky.
Basically, anyone that is really bored with WoW, bored enough to try another MMO, would be silly to wait at this point as anything worth a damn isn't coming anytime soon. At least 7 people in my WoW guild bought AoC, only 3 of them are still playing it and those 3 are getting more bored as the days pass -- I expect them back in WoW within a month.
Is Wrath of the Lich King preventing you from trying this game!?
Hmmmmmm..........NO!
Im sorry but i am having an awful lot of trouble believing youve played the beta.
Sorry Kovah,
not trying to embarass you but, you never asked a question in your post.
but i get the jist of it.
my advice play what you like...AOC is new and you might like it.
embarass me? "This seems like a silly question." was referencing YOUR question. Had it been aimed at me it would've ended with a : and not a .
You can play the beta! I have also, ran all over the Northrend continent that was available! The Friends and Family Alphs was leaked like 2 weeks ago and there is one private server that has it running! There is nothing there but landscape, no mobs or NPCs except a few near the start for gear and mounts, so its mainly just alot of players PvP with each other.Im sorry but i am having an awful lot of trouble believing youve played the beta.
...and yeah its WoW all over again, just much much larger than BC! I will not be playing it either but I didn't mind taking a look at its progress!
And what magical way can one beta WoTLK? Considering Blizz stated there isn't going to be an open beta for it's still in internal testing?
Always change your signature.

block 11 you start to ask a question but don't finish it.
this is definatly the major problem with conan . funcom overshot what the average computer was capable of by about 1-2 years . mid range pcs struggle with conan even on lower settings ( mid range meaning pentium dc 2.5-3.5 ghz 8600-8800 cards 2-4 gb ram ) . the home pc needs to catch up with conan and unfortunatly its not a game that will hold the majority of peoples interest longterm
I've contemplated canceling my AoC subscription, the game is just too incomplete to warrant $15. I know I know $15 isn't that big of a deal, but right now I'd rather have 3 or 4 more beers tonight at the bar than reward Funcom for what they've released.
That said AoC has Potential(tm), and perhaps when content is added and siege warfare is implemented I'll make a return visit.
As to the OP ...
Right now, I'll take WoW's graphics over AoC's. Primarily because those graphics come at a cost: high system specs and instanced zoning. I think Funcom could've implemented a more stylized medium-graphics game and would've been fine. Sure the landscapes are beautiful and AoC is great for the occasional screen shot, but, at least imo, the graphics don't enhance my experience enough to make-up for the costs.
As I used to scream (yeah, I said that lol) at the SWG devs 'Content over Graphics'. What sense does it make to have a stunning graphically game if I can't reasonably (key word there) play it? No, I'm not talking about trying to run said game on a low-end machine, but one that meets the medium standards per the game itself.
AoC's combat is different, but again I'm not sure if it's substantively different. After you get used to the system, it's still the same ol' whack-a-mole key mashing fest we see in most MMOs. By chance you run across another player who really knows what they're doing you may enjoy the added functionality.
Again, I'm not dumping on Funcom they should be applauded for extending combat mechanics. My response is to the question '... why you wouldn't try this game knowing graphics/combat/sound are far superior?' Imo, what I've experienced in AoC thus far hasn't really differentiated itself from other titles.
Had WotLK been released jointly with AoC, I would've most likely waited to buy AoC. WoW is a known factor for me; I know what I'm getting, and at least IMO, it'll be a fun experience.
Admittedly I know that MMOs will release with a few issues. AoC is no different, but then again I'm also a little tired of this endemic problem with the genre. I'm really hoping that other studios are learning the Age of releasing Crap is over.
So ... why did I buy AoC lol. Well I did want to play around with the new combat mechanics, see how the art team did with the graphics (btw, they did a fantastic job), and I was really interested to see how FFA PvP could be implemented in a Themepark MMO.
More so than those though, I was looking forward to the 'newness' of the game; you know that communal feeling that you get the first few months of newly released MMO. So far, I've been disheartened. Most of my guild has blown through the levels and no one seems to want to group for anything, whether it's to go questing or even to push out a ganker.
I'm not sure if this is a product of instanced zone or people are just realizing how easy it is to level in AoC. Either way, I'm just not feeling it Funcom lol.
No biggie though and please don't take my comments as trying to dissuade potential players. A question was asked and hopefully I was able to put some context around my answers.
Funcom has some good ideas and the moment they've delivered I'll be a happy Priest of Mitra.
Ico
Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
No I didn't. Please l2read. You even acknowledged that I didn't and then edited your post. Here, let me rephrase for you: "YOUR TOPIC is a silly question."

A leaked friends and family alpha played in a private server with no mobs or npcs is not a beta.Thats like saying you hate your new car because it doesnt run if you take off the wheels.
WotLK is not stopping me buying AoC. My PC not being good enough is stopping me buying it. The lack of content, bugs, FC Customer Service is stopping me from upgrading my PC to buy AoC. Blizzard producing the same tired old content is stopping me from buying WotLK. And I have 4 level 70's.
I want something new, and I doubt WAR will give me that either...
I am playing AoC till I get bored of it. I certainly would be buying and playing Lich king and that would apply whatever game comes out in between. When I get bored of that that, I will go switching again. Its the beauty of the subscription model.
To err is human....to play is divine
Why does everyone say you need such a high end PC?
I only have a 5600+x2 , 2g ram, 7950gt 256mb and it runs fine on my pc....
On medium, i have cities 7-25fps anything outside of the cities i'm getting 25-60fps. I don't see what the fuss is, my pc probably is considered "decent" and not really anywhere near high end. Try messing with a few settings, especially turning shadows to players only I got around 20fps. On average i would say i have 40fps. I can't understand why anyone with an 8800 complains, I wish i had your card lol.
Maybe some people will tell me because they can't play on high settings, but if they made the graphics crappy like wow so you could run it on high settings then isn't that the equivelant even lower than low settings on AoC :S. I think the game looks absojlutely gorgeous even on my med settings with little options if any.
But then again i guess i do not see ultra low settings which would be nice, so if that is what you're referring to i agree... I have a friend who'd consider playing but he can't whatsoever on his ancient beast. a Athlon XP 2500+ with a radeon 9800 pro lol.
