game summary:

a game with 3 genre combined: action (close up first person killing or 3rd person view), strategy (conquer/kingdom management) and mmorpg (community/trades/skills/explore/politics).  in this game it is very PvP based and it is made for casual and hardcore gamers.  game focus on building empire, waging wars and manage your lands.  over 500 skills and spells to learn from.  you learn them from other players or NPC.  you have no combat level. it is a matter of fact how strong you are.  a great game with great ideas.

If they can just get past this devlopment hump things will certianly explode!

These second generation games (EQ2/AC2/MEO/D&DO/Ryzom) that are built on exisitng technology have alot less to deal with than games that are being built on fresh engines. The same type of thing slowed down WP and Shadowbane. That game never seemed to overcome its shortfall of instabillity and playabillity. Hope Razorwax can get bye the techy stuff with a better outcome.

They need to either get on the ball and finish and get the game preped for beta or do something to hurry the hell up, people have been waiting for a long time and they aren't treating their community right by now giving them any info. It doesn't take that much time to post a few shots or update once a month.

I am personally a fan of DnL but we do consider you guys a great PvP game and largest competitor. So I really WANT Darkfall to come out soon. Game looks really nice and i will probably try it. Hey good luck guys hope they get over the bump in the road but all developments seem to hit one at least once. Eh i wouldnt worry to much. Good Luck!

I don't know, sad, but from what I see, there has been no updates since that last 'latest' news about the possible legal concern or debate(or whatever) about the name.

Darkfall is every true MMORPG'ers dream, and all seemed to be moving good, till that last thing.

I personaly hope they get over that damn hill SOON so they can become toe TOP mmorpg of all time. I mean, with all that it was going to offer, DF was anything and everything I have ever wanted in a game(and plenty of others thought so too.)

Pray to the MMORPG gods that DF survives this, because if they ever get to open, they WILL own for a LONG LONG, Very long time.

All hail the developers of DF and if DF falls though, use all these great idea's, and make us the next and ONLY game to play for the future.

P.S. If any DF developers, see this, I have compleatly remade my computer in anticipation to df, but it seems that every new update just tells me that you are having so much trouble. Let us know what is going on, and if DF is dead, tell us what games you are working on now, so we can try them too.

i used to be so excited about this game because of the new innovative ideas and gameplay it offers...but after waiting too long and no updates from the dev...i begin to think that DF is vaporware. .... 100 percent vaporware.  the dev broke my heart...because i do agree it will be a great game...it will own DnL

    but now....vaporware.....RIP DF.

I hate people who use the term Vaporware, they are all idiots. DF isn't vaporware, do you REALLY think that a group of guys made a website and a forum about this game, but aren't actually working on it?

Do you think it was just a prank by some kids in Europe. Who decide to go and register 2 companies (Razorwax and Adventurine) just to pull off the prank and fool everyone?

They don't update because it's crunchtime. They said they want the game out by 2004, well it's nearing the end of 2004 now (well, almost), so they really have to work on it.

Unless you define vaporware as simply any game that has been planned but not yet created, in which case EVERY game in development is vaporware.

New dev Q&A responses as of the 28th.

Most pertinent question to most of the frequenters of these boards would be this one.

In case you can't view it (I think you need a Darkfall forums account to view the Dev Q&A boards):

There is no estimated time or date that we wish to announce publicly yet. As we draw closer to a release date we will increasingly try to keep the community informed of our progress. We have learned the hard way that the number of variables in a project of this magnitude can lead to serious delays and disappointment all around. We're keeping deadlines for internal use and we'll try to share our significant milestones with the community. Our last status report is here and there will be a new one up soon.

Some developer perspectives on this topic:

"If we feel that there are certain aspects of the game that can be made better by spending more time on them, we will take that time. The good news is that we have the support to make the game as good as we've envisioned it; the bad news is that is the extra time it's taking to polish it. We're as eager as anyone to get the game released but I think the fans will appreciate the results."

    Claus Grovdal

    ------------------------------------------------

Kjetil Helland, Darkfall's lead programmer explains that without excess manpower to throw at problems, it's very hard to offer time estimates that you can stick to, even though we try to accommodate for the worst case scenario. We're a small independent game developer and we have to manage our resources carefully. Let¢s not forget that even in cases of projects with comparatively unlimited resources, we've seen huge delays and project cancellations. "One little bump can throw off the whole thing."

    ------------------------------------------------

"Historically, Darkfall for one reason and another was initiated as a game title without a clear release deadline in mind, and although it has been in full production for quite some time, this ethos is still prevalent. Darkfall is not being created to "fit" a schedule set by a marketing team or any publishers, and as such allows the inclusion of all manner of elements and aspects that are deemed essential to the making of a fun (and subsequently good) game. This does not mean that it will be "in development" indefinitely, what it means is that we will not be releasing something substandard prematurely."

    Jon Hughes

Some other questions were answered, such as a reaffirmation of in-game physics, the existence of a 'Darkfall lobby' application that will allow one to read in-game message boards, talk to people, and do guild/city management without actually logging in, some info about naval vessels, and possible Teamspeak/Ventrillo integration into the client instead of (or possibly alongside) their own proprietary system.

    Fun stuff to read!

    anyone remember DAWN?

I think Darkfall seems more solid that DAWN did.

But, I'm going to wait-and-see; I've been dissappointed before.  So I just don't get too excited over any announced MMORPG.  I'll believe it when it comes.

Dawn was just ridiculous. Character breeding, tunneling, and fetus-pults? NEGATIVE PING CODE?

How could anybody believe that was anything BUT a joke?

I'm not really worried about release. I personally think MMORPG's have been going in the wrong direction since the explosive peak of the early Ultima Online years.

One of the reasons why I think MMORPG's have been going in the wrong direction is because the developers with the cash aren't implementing a fun, sustainable game environment. Most likely because the devs with ultimate decision-making power were never hardcore MMORPG gamers. So any MMORPG out there whether it is Darkfall or any other has my full support when they try to develop a game with an environment I want to play in.

I am not about to cave in and support or pay for a MMORPG that heads in the wrong direction. To me, that just reinforces and lends more support for the wrong games. I'd much rather wait for a great game than spend thousands of hours playing a mediocre unfulfilling game. Even if that means the great *ideas* never make it into a fuctioning game because development was cancelled, I'm at least going to do my best to show my support for those great ideas.

I don't care what anybody says I myself would wait until the second quarter of 2006 for the game to come out if it is what the devs are promising. I myself have been on the forums boards at the Darkfall site for about a year. I was just cruising around the internet to see if there are any more forums on the game. This one is not as active yet still has good input and the people who have no faith also are around......look how long it took shadowbane to release but it turned out to be crap! I will just play WoW untill the release!
All in all the game will be awesome if they implement 1/2 of what they are promising!

Vaporware means it will never make it in the market, it will be dead before its ever fully completed. Not that its a scam or joke that isn't actually being developed at all.

What you are mixing it up with would be scamware or something.

I also am really looking forward to DF coming out---but gotta disagree with you about the shadowbane comment. There are alot of very good things about shadowbane. Free for all open pvp.....great city management.....million different and viable ways to play every class. It didnt take forever to lvl and it had open pvp---good stuff. Ive played world of grindcrap and I didnt care for its pvp at all. DAOC just takes far too much time to do anything and guildwars....yuck. Till then im trying out asherons call and anarchy online. IMO DF is the only game in development that peaks my interest.

Hopefully it doesnt take forever to get here.
