They have started to invite people to the beta () so the beta (and maybe the whole game) should be released within a year or three
Heh... what's a few more years among friends.
I'm really curious what happened to those that were invited into Beta back in 2005 though? Now that is one long Beta there... wonder how many of those 2005 Beta-testers they still have testing it?

They recieved a clan beta invite and were asked to send in the forum names of a certain number of people to participate in the beta. They never heard back about that one. This time, however, Tasos has actually stated (by talking in the past tense about the procedure being executed in the closed public beta) that people are actually in the Beta. Last time, they only said the invites were out. This time, that the testers are in. Slight difference there.
I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy.

Ahh...
Thanks for that extra info. flakmonky I didn't know that part.
I really do hope for DF to come out soon... but I am disappointed with the way that Aventurine and Tasos has chosen to do their Beta for the product. I am also disappointed with the lack of information that they have released this close to the actual Release Date of the game.
We still have no idea what the monthly fee will be, or what method of payment(s) will be allowed.
We still have no idea on whether the US will even have a release at the same time as the EU.
We are unsure of the number of servers and where they will be located.
There are more of course... but those are things that at a minimum we will need to know before we can purchase and subscribe to the game. Well... at least I will need to know those things.

Flak was pretty close - each accepted guild designated 12 primary testers and an unlimited number of secondary testers. Information provided for each tester was: real name, forum name, email. All primary testers would be allowed in for the first wave, secondary testers invited by need. Nothing ever happened after the info was provided.

Thanks for the clarification. I was not around, so I had to piece together what I had been told by others.

seriously not trying to be a hater here, or be passive agressive, but with a dev history like this, i would suspect that even the most faithful fans of this (possible) release must be very nervous for what should be expected after release (bug fixes, etc...)

Surprisingly, there seem to be some fans that are not nervous at all. Also, I would point out that this ridiculous amount of absolute faith is mirrored in the ridiculous amount of unrenlenting hate of a number of trolls that have taken root here.

Has anyone actually been in the game yet? Or are they still just sending out teaser emails?
