Originally posted by AzalinRex Seems blizzard will reveal their "next gen mmo" (see www.blizzard.com) and their is a hot discussion about it at diablonfans.com.
What you ppl think?
can you provide a more specific link other than simply blizzard.com? kinda hard to find when you consider how many press releases there are.
Actually I'm fantasizing if it's possible for Blizz to fork out mega moolahs out of their ever expanding WoW coffers to LindenLabs. Persuade LL to build or allow them to compose their own toolsets to completely rework Second Life. Add guns, boobs, blood, open ended PvP, player driven quest and crafting systems (the latter shouldn't be a problem since it's Second Life), spaceships and everything in between the GTA franchise into the mix. Multiple "dimensions" in a single world where we can see dwarves and barbarians throw some pickup lines at nubiles, at the nearest strip/adult clubs. Finally some of the more motherly inclined players with partiality towards crafting can send their children to a virtual kindie. Heck they can also be nannies and teachers while they're at it/ We can also dream to see Hello Kitty sprites running around to pass "wellness" brochures and calls that a day of "grinding". Toons can progress just by being "House" passing asinine medical remarks while healing. Never before players can be compensated for enjoyment at being a-holes. People can't complain since there will be a 50/50 permadeath for those "with balls" at player registrations.
Complete with built-in codes and algorithms that can calculate pooled player times to address and stock up on global carbon credits.
While letting the players earn some dough too.
Then call it ...."WHAT LIFE?"
Blizz and LL will then proceed to spread world peace. Oil prices will become next to free since no one would give a shit to drive when they can sit all day and grow nasty hemorrhoids in front of their comp playing this thing.
I thought Blizzard already said it wasn't Starcraft NOR Diablo.
"When we announce our next MMORPG it's not going to be another WOW--we're not a company that tends to tread the same ground," he told British film magazine Empire. "It'll be something innovative and new that really brings entertainment to another level." - http://www.gamespot.com/news/6164522.html
Why does everyone want a diablo MMO? Please tell me where the difference would be between WoW and World of Diablo. They are essentially the same (though with different models) in game mechanics, overall goal and even the setting. Actually I have always thought that WoW is just Diablo 3 with Warcraft models.
I hope Blizzards next MMO will be a Sci-Fi MMOFPS. That would be something new (lol @ Tabula Rasa). But I guess it would be still all about PvE

Diablo, the first one, was a lot of fun. I'd like to see a MMO like that. Not so much D2.

WOW ain't going to last forever. It's going on four years now and the game is getting tired.
Also, fantasy MMO's so far have done better than Sci-Fi MMO's. Given this and the fact that Diablo is long overdue for another incarnation, makes me think that a Diablo MMO could be the gradual replacement for WOW.
And Diablo is different from WOW:
WOW = cartoonish, modern pop humor, light fantasy MMO
Diablo = (potentially) dark, serious, spooky fantasy MMO. Basically, a more mature setting for former WOW players who are now older and more mature.
What ever it may be some rumors are it's either console or crossplatform due the employment page over at http://www.blizzard.com/us/jobopp/programmer-game-physics.html "Game Physics/Collision Programmer - Next-Gen MMO - Programming experience on both console and PC titles. But don't think it will be Diablo.
People do know that any game that will be revealed has already been in development for a couple of years already. Its not like they'll announce, "Our next MMO will be based on Starcraft!!!" and then a few minutes later, some guys will start writing down a business plan. Any MMO BLizzard is announcing will probably be 1/2 way done by now. They probably started a month or 2 after they released WOW when the official numbers, reviews, great press and hype could be put all together in a nice little package to show the bean counters.
Actually I'm pretty sure the team behind Diablo 2 left Blizzard and started their own company... But anyways, it really could be anything. The fact that the picture looks like ice obviously makes you think of WotLK, but then again it could also be crystals/protoss things. The symbols around the picture can be linked to all 3 franchises. One of them resembles the largest rune on Arthas's blade at the WotLK website, one represents the rune "Hel" from Diablo 2, and one is the protoss racial symbol. I give Blizz the thumbs up for leaving us all guessing.
Well.... Diablo 3 is coming if you like it or not. If it is Blizz's next MMO is another story. What its looking like is that we will hear something this weekend at Blizzard's World Wide Invitation in Paris. Last one they had was in Korea and they announced Starcraft 2. This Invitational's BIG announcement won't be WotLK or starcraft 2... why bring people from all over the globe to show them something from these already announced games. Check out 1up.com's atricle about the blizzard announcement on their home page for some more insight.
What I think on the other hand, is mixed thoughts/opinions. If Diablo is in fact their next MMO, it won't be announced this weekend meaning that there will be maybe a new Blizzard IP. I think it might be Diablo 3, but it won't be an MMO. I would love to see Blizzard to take a new direction and try a new IP... It has to happen someday, they can't survive on only Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo.

to me it kind of seems like they are putting each game on the outside of the pictures via runes. Starcraft, World of warcraft, Diablo.. then maybe Warcraft and even Lost Vikings...then maybe perhaps unveil something new. Just a theory tho..as is everything about this is right now....just theories

WoD i'd be there so fast..... but what i expect Blizzard would do, if anything, as they milked the 'good points' from D2 in making WoW, is a portal into Tristram as an expansion for WoW.
but that's just me.
"We aren't going to ... Period. End of statement."
I would like to see Blizzard attempt something innovative. I would certainly look at them in a much better way. Before playing any mmo games I used to play games such as Diablo1&2 and Starcraft all the time. I would like their new MMO to be Diablo 3 but I fear Diablo 3 will be just another rpg in 3D.

Don't fear Diablo 3 being just a RPG in 3d... if that's the way they go it will still be an amazing game.

I would love a Diablo MMO, only if it allowed people from an entire region to do dungeon runs... Imagine being able to pull from players from Europe or Asia or America (like Diablo), not just one little server.
The server could be persistant, but the dungeons could be instances.
We need more fast paced short duration dungeons like Diablo.
I agree that Diablo 3 is eventually coming, but it could easily be an MMO. Diablo 2 was already on the verge of being an MMO itself; its not that difficult of a transition. However, I would also love to see Blizzard try something new

I'l be shocked if it going to be a mmo. Time to give Diablo life!

I have no opinion until I read an official press report.
Blessings,

Next gen?
/pif
Just like vanguard was "next gen" and TR, Fury, and AoC.
Id try it, but I doubt it would be any diffrent from the mmo's we have now.

The absolute front-page... not a particular press release.
Anyway, WoW IS the Diablo MMO.
Quite honestly, that splash looks more like the "ice" around Arthas, meaning WotLK expansion, then a new game...
Wishing i am wrong

The splash screen says nothing. How are people concluding this is indicative of a new MMO?

To me personally, that means it's neither.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/vivendi-universal/diablo-and-starcraft-mmogs-vivendi-says-yes-blizzard-says-huh-180658.php
In that link Vivendi says Starcraft and Diablo will be MMOs, while Blizzard denies both saying they don't intend on making them MMOs.
World of Ice Crack?

Despite what has been said, I am hoping their new MMO will be Starcraft based or at least sci-fi.
We really need a good polished sci-fi MMO in the market. That is the void that Blizzard can fill.
DIABLO marks all over it (literally rhe ice) there are marking which point directly to diablo...and now the crystals are opening more.
the team behind diablo 1-2 have been hiring for a next gen project.
Blizz was working on a next gen MMO
do the math baby! woot
I play all ghame
