Hello, i am looking for a mmo that is more like FFXI. I used to play FFXI alot but not long ago my account got hacked and Square Enix wont do anything about it so i need somthing new to play.
Ive tried lots of mmorpg like FLYFF, Maple story, Trickster, Perfect World, Cabal, and such but nothing comes close to how much fun i had with FFXI. Im looking for a mmo thats more team based.
i find soloing for long periods of time very boring, and a mmo with something more to do than just level up for no reason. and something thats more than just spam skills at a mob until it dies, basicly something closer to FFXI's style. Are there any mmo's like this? or is FFXI one of a kind. I need something to play at least until SE's new mmo is out. Can anyone help me please?

Honestly man there really isn't much. The original EQ and FFXI are very closely related since I think FFXI based most of their stuff on EQ. You may want to try the original EQ if it's not too dated for you.
Edit* Also keep an eye out for a new Square MMO, but they may go the route of WoW type quest based games. Some old FFXI'ers are looking forward to Aion but from all the news out it looks to be very much like WoW where you can solo and it is quest based.

Aw man... there has to be something, i mean FFXI cant be the only mmo to have a team based playstyle. out of possibly hundreds of mmorpg's there has to be at least one that doesnt have soloing as the primary way to level. I at least want a game where a boss stratagy is more than
"ok... ill tank and everyone else just spam your strongest crap until it dies"
^^^
any way try Lineage 2

FFXI secure? thats funny. For the past... year or so account hacks in FFXI have been sky high. its because of keyloggers and hacks in many FFXI related sites, ones where players go to look up quest and look at the prices on the auction house and such. I played on PS2 but i played on my cousins PC once or twise while i was at his house, so i guess thats how it happened. I can verify the old credit card number that was used, and it even still has my name and birthdate as the credit card user but just the number is changed. They told me they see when the change was made and i told them i didnt verify that change, i even have the registration codes for ALL the expansion packs ive bought but they still wont do anything because i dont have the original Play Online code from 4 years ago...
i dont think you are being entirely honest but that does not matter atm.
but SE have done nothing wrong as they require that information to help you. its in the FAQ. and they tell you to keep it secure when you start playing the game.
your playonline code should be stuck in your box with your other codes an stuff.

How come whenever i tell this story people say im not being honest >.<. And i do have registration codes, i have the registration code of every expansion + FFXI but just not the POL one. Just go on Allakazham and look around, this happens alot. Just how much proof do i need. I have the credit card number, the name, birthdate, old password and username, and numerous registration codes. it really doesnt matter now anyway cause I checked FFXIAH and all my stuff is sold off and i bet all my gill and items are gone too so forget it. I just want a new game to play until SE's new MMO is out.
*Edit* i forgot to mention, i tried talking to them numerous times, through web chat and on the phone, and SE said they would send me a account recovery form or whatever they called it in my email, which they never did.
Nope, FFXI is a very unique MMO....no others have group combet like it! It's one of the best parts of FFXI...and sadly the new gen of gamers are well; not very bright so the plethora of hand-holding is only gonna get worse and solo play is gonna be in everything!
The only new MMO that I'd image would be like FFXI would prolly be Squeenix's new MMO....though nobody knows anything except that they are making a new one!
Honestly nothing comes close to FFXI, its one of a kind.
Teamplay? In a modern mmo? r u crazy?
Seriously if your looking for teamplay..I don't what to tell you.
Eq2 maybe? Though I hear that game keeps getting more and more solo friendly with is expansions.
Eve online? sci fi, team play definently, but its a pvp game and has a steep learning curve, not really anyway similar to FFXI.
City of Heroes might work for ya, last time I played *years ago* it was pretty group friendly and I imagine it still is.
Id say try vanguard, but since theirs barely a population *though slowly rising lately* finding a group can be difficult at times.
Thinking of goign back to FFXI personally, waiting for my eve trial to expire first.
FFXI is a very unique game.EQ/EQ2 are very close in stature to FFXI.I give FFXI the benefit of having the most unique battle system and sub jobs are a great idea. The game however has tons of flaws that are actually fixed or made better in EQ2.To answer your question straight up ,only EQ2 comes close but that game is also older and has a very low populace on there servers.
As far as keylogging and hacks FFXI is totally safe, there is NO WAY EVER[other than an inside job] to hack FFXI's system. The ONLY reason people get hacked in the game is because there information is gathered/stolen by sites that players visit and should not be visiting. So in other words don't visit those illegit sites and you will never be hacked. If you wander into trouble there is a very good chance you will get trouble.
I know a lot of these hackers use tricky methods like copy and pasting legit website pages but inserting there link into the pages true link and getting people to click there information over too them. The average person wouldn't know the difference.Thing is this, websites pretty much 99.9% of the time will never ask for your information so don't fall for those emails stating there has been security issues you need to login and change your information tactics, because there is a very good chance that login link is not the legit one.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Aw crap... guess i may try Eve online until the New SE MMO comes out... anyways if anyone cares to see it, this is the concept trailer for SE's new MMO, no name yet.
Looks like a better graphics FFXI if you ask me. dont know about gameplay though
No no no, i never went to a shady website or anything and i never entered my info into any site, the way i hear it from Alla is that, the sites http://www.ffxiah.com and i think it was http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org, which are basicly the normal sites everyone would go to for info had some kind of virus that would copy your username / password if it was saved on your computer. At least thats what i remember, it was a big thing on Alla.
I strongly suggest having Square Enix lock your account. There is a procedure for you to get your account back afterwards, but I'm not sure how it works.
Erin Hoffman posted this article regarding account theft (with FFXI mentioned as example) on The Escapist today:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_155/4990-Someone-Stole-My-Magic-Sword
I believe the issue is much more rampant in many other titles than in FFXI - it creates bad situations for online players like Michelle (from the article) and Inuakurei.
Although the games aren't similar, FFXI and EVE both require a lot of commitment - I suggest spending time to play console titles (so many good ones recently) for now, but EVE is also a nice choice.
Let me begin by saying I LOVE FFXI, It was my first MMO and every mmo i've played since I've longed for many...MANY things that were in FFXI to be in those games. However I disagree that WoW and some of these others games you mention are solo ONLY games. I group up a lot with members from my guild in fact if I have time to devote to grouping I don't play solo. I am a full time college student, with a part time job and a husband (might as well say I have two full time jobs...) I don't have a ton of time to spend in front of the computer (though I would love it) to play mmo's. When I do I love to group at those moments. These games that are a little more solo friendly are great, I can log in knock out a few quest, hunt up some crafting stuff, and so on during the short amount of time I have in front of the computer.
In FFXI even if you started your own party it could take 30 minutes to an hour (people get tired of waiting, drop out, join another group mostly formed...so on and so on) then to be polite, which is good, you should stay for 2 hours or more. When I played FFXI on days that I didn't have 3+ hours to dedicate to grouping I would craft and redo my mog house, it was good stuff. Unfortunately when I tried WoW at a friends insistance I found that I had many more options during those times when I didn't have enough time to dedicate to a group.
That being said I still group a lot...its what made make the switch from FFXI to WoW. I could solo on days when thats all I could do and yet I could have A LOT of fun grouping with friends knocking out quests, killing rare mobs, and so on.
I love FFXI and trust me I have times where I want to load it back up...the subjob ability, the effects that the day of the week had on spells and crafting, the fact that mobs aggroed for different reasons (sight, sound, etc), the crafting, the skill needed (I admit it is missing from WoW). It's knowing that I don't have the time needed to group most of the time and the options available to solo play in other games that keep me from doing it. WoW is lacking in a lot of area's especially post BC and I've moved on and tried other mmo's.
Guess my whole point in this wall of text is that maybe we shouldn't assume that you can't get team style play in a game that also allows solo play. Though the group weapon skills in FFXI were great fun too that is missing from these games though it could easily be adopted. Anywho I wasn't responding directly to this quote as there were others like it...It is a nice post with good info...just wanted to put in my two cents...sorry
Currently Playing: FFXIV:ARR
Looking Forward to: Wildstar
As for locking my account, thats what they were supposed to send me in my email, a account form thingy that would lock my account. i gave my emial to both a tech support person on web chat and on the phone and nothing ever came, i even checked my spam folder incase it went there, nothing. I really think SE just doesnt give a crap
Time isnt really a problem for me, i just want a game that has more to it then solo and spam skills until something dies.
I really wish i could play FFXI again, I was Inuakurei of Ifrit server. Lv75 pld, cor, drk, blm. capped merits. ROZ, TAOU, and COP completed Rank 10. thats too much to start over.
SE came out and said to the press that this was a fake trailer released by someone other than them and that it was not the new mmo. That's basically how we even know there is a new one coming out, they said that wasn't the new one and gave a small hint one was in the process. I remember seeing FFXI in the making a long time before it got released.
Now as for a game similar to FFXI. When you find one please send me a pm, been looking since before WotG and always keep going back to FFXI, think I have 3 accounts for it now...
EDIT: Adds and deleted my second paragraph for this one.
That article that was posted about Michelle. It made me almost cry.
I lost my samurai at level 53. I went into a rage with not being able to get a group to level with for so long (1 month everyday after school/work on weekends.) I deleted him. Biggest mistake of my life now I regret it. I know the feeling of losing everything especially from the time you had to put into FFXI. The best thing I can tell you on getting your account back. Call customer support and get the supervisor on the phone. Don't even bother talking to the pawn just get the supervisor right away. Chew him out, yell at him, but still be polite enough to where they won't hang up on you and will still help you. That's what I did and it worked.
I'm very sorry to hear your account was stolen/hacked. As a fellow FFXI fanatic I can sympathize with your pain. Nobody deserves to have an ffxi account jacked, god knows how much time you spend and invest in it. I'm going on 600 earth days of RL play time, and would cry if this happened to me.
It's sad over the years all the friends I have made fizzled out quit, etc.. And its depressing when I've moved to a few different servers and couldn't replace them. Although as of lately I was able to meet a niche linkshell that likes to PvP and has great teamwork/skill.
As for a new game that is similar, I don't know what to tell you honestly, because I am feeling the same way. FFXI is getting old, and nobody PvP's in uncapped which makes me sad. Iv'e done almost everything the game has to offer, short of upgrading a relic weapon, and spend most my time staring at the AH when I'm not engaged in LS events.
I hope SE's new mmo they are working on is PvP focused, with the same PvE style. God forbid they go into solo quests, because I play to socialize and grow meaningful friendships along the way. It's always funner when you are doing something with someone else, or a huge alliance of 18~to 36, even more...
Good luck to you sir, and hopefully the next Square MMO is a winner.
I may try that... but even if i did i looked myself up on ffxiah.com a while ago and all my stuff has been sold away now. Most of my stuff is rare/ex but if the guy is a ass hes probally droped that as well (ive seen it happen...)
Ok i guess there is no mmo like FFXI out there... is there at least a mmo with more depth to it than skill spam.
Like how FFXI had more to its combat system than spaming the same skill over and over, there were stratagys to killing bosses and more things to do than level up like Dynamis, Salvage, Assault missions and such
Also the missions werent repetive, every mission in most mmo's i play are just "kill (x) amount of monsters) or "bring (x) amount of items that a monster drops"
Basicly... just a mmo with more to do than just level up for no reason. is there such a mmo?
Maybe just wait for Aion? I guess it's worth a shot. Who knows, maybe you will grow to like it. Only way to find out is play it for yourself when it comes out, and you can be the judge.
Maybe you should try Dungeons and dragons online?
Its all about grouping and almost no solo at all... and it probably have the best combat system of all MMOs (but have some down sides such as alot of instancing and not alot to do except doing dungeons)
try the free trial and see what you think!
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Hmm Aion looks pretty cool, not many classes but i guess FFXI didnt have many when it first came out either lol. Ill wait for Aion since SE's new mmo doesnt even have a name yet... so it wont be comming out for a long time i guess.
Also they were working on an MMO and then they either cancelled or sold it, and are now working on a new one codenamed something... Can't remember maybe rapture. Anyway it means it is probably farther off from release than you would imagine.
As for Aion it does look cool but I think they are approaching it WoW style where you can solo and quest grind all the way through. At least that's what I read last time I checked from Korean beta testers.
