"But you know... I'm going to be a bit cheeky now, but if you've been to McDonald's for four or five years, and had your burger and your Coke, sometimes it's great to just have a great steak and a glass of good wine.

"I think that's what we're trying to do. It's more expensive, it's not for everyone and perhaps it's not as easily accessible as WOW is. But it could be more meaty," Godager finished.

Mr Godadger, Wine becomes good wine when it is  ready,

just like a good game is a game which is ready.

A game director comparing WoW to McDonalds/fast food now too....?

Gosh i just think i might reconsider my resub, i knew many players were retards by using WoW as a Mc Donald term, when it's just a lot better on most fronts, not to mention NOT RUSHED but polished!! WoW didn't deliver subpar stuff, it actually was the unexpected 2nd gen mmo, both for the good and bad.

If anything, WoW is a fancy restaurant, which became huge and opened a lot of other ones in other towns because their food was liked by extremely many and had both sections for younger and older ones. Their food was great, it had a long taste and was worth every single penny, yet it wasn't expensive though it tasted better than really expensive restaurants.

I happen to know a nice café which started out very small but always made great food, it was somehow always cheap, even though you got a lot more than the usual, and it never seemed to be rushed. They now have a pretty large café or perhaps it should be called a restaurant, their food is still great, perhaps even better, and yet also still quite cheap.

Anyways, God, a game director like that? Jeeze, for the first time i actually feel like i wasted money on AoC.....

  • JosherJosher Member Posts: 2,818

So its another AO.  Got it.   AO needed a lot of time to become good but by then no one cared.  AOC seems to be following the same pattern.

If WoW is McDonalds, AoC is dog food.

Ah cool, since we are using food analogies.

You walk into an AOC eating establishment and your group orders a whole blackberry pie.  When the pie is served it looks great.  So you and your friends each take a slice, and you take a bite.  The first bite  tastes rotten.  You sniff it and it smells spoiled.

At this point, there are several choices:

    1) don't eat anymore pie, but keep the rotten taste and spoiled smell opinion to yourself

    2) warn your friends the pie tastes rotten, see if there is a consensus

    3) eat your entire slice, then decide if the pie is good or bad

    4) you order a seperate pie (also spoiled and rotten smelling) and proceed to eat the entire thing.  Only after eating the whole pie can you make a qualified statement that something is wrong with AOC pie

    5) order 2 pies.  One pie you eat yourself.  The other rotten pie you take home to share with your wife, children and neighbors to see if they also think the pie tastes rotten.

    I'd go with

    6) as for the manager, tell him of the situation, leave the restaurant and possibly return a few months later to see if the pies had gotten better.

No...that's the other way around....seriously Dog Food consists of better meat than McDonalds uses, and most other fast food places!  Dog Food is made from like Grade B meat, and the fast food places use Grade D, sometimes C!

I can't really imagine the situation in which i'd EVER return to a place where I have eatean anything that is rotten. Heck, even if it wasn't rotten, but didn't taste very good - I doubt i'll ever return.

MMORPG players are either very patient, or dumb (?), or the analogy is not very good (I'd say bit of first and last points).

You don't live in america do you. In such a situation in America, yes, you call the manager. Then you demand that the whole meal is on them, and/or sue them afterwards.

  • GishgeronGishgeron Member Posts: 1,287

Irony, I wouldn't call AoC steak and wine....

I would suggest that it is more akin to a fancy restaurant that still SERVES Mc'Donalds.  You're still getting a Big Mac, but its on a golden plate and placed on a fancy table to help you forget the fact that the food is still little more than processed soybean garbage.

What makes this scenario even MORE tantalizing is the people who THINK that its better food.  Elitists' whom scoff at those who still go to Mc'Donalds....even though it serves the same dish, takes less time to enjoy, and is located conveniently so that all people can access it efficiently.  As if the golden plate makes the burger any less bland...really.  How trite.

I'd say the analogy is pretty bad. But I went with the flow. Since -rotten- would be something that is actually harmful for you. If it doesn#t taste very good, that's a whole different line of comparison, so yeah. *shrugs*

Apart from that, why not return? If a friend points out "hey, they've gotten a great new menu selection and I heard it's really improved" why would you not give it a seconed chance?

You don't need to live in America for that, I doubt there's any place in the world (maybe except for the darkest thirld world like Somalia) where people accept eating rotten food....

Because I have TONS of other places to try out. Hundreds, minimum :)

This is why it's a bad analogy. Not many chances for alternative top grade MMOG's :(

Funny how you all taken it negatively ...

I just wonder if you missed the point intentionally or not ...

    The way you taken it:

mcdonald is crap ==> steak+wine is great

    wow sux ==> AoC great

The way it was meant (imo):

you are used to wow standard gameplay ==> AoC has new and unique features (which may be difficult to adapt to at first)

But well your posts are still funny

But the unique features are not all that unique.

When he made the whole Mc Donalds vs Steak/wine comment he should have just said Mc Donalds vs Burger King. Because there really isnt all that much difference between WoW and AoC save for a few superficial changes (graphics and combat)

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
