Aion
Great if it won't be too much of a Korean grindfest. I hope for this.

Champions Online
Formerly known as Marvel Online. Marvel dropped out, and Cryptic got the Champions (pen and paper roleplaying game) IP. They say they learned from COH's mistakes and it should be less instanced. Powers can be chosen freely with no archetypes. I am gonna play the equivalent of a Force Field defender when it comes out. I can't wait :-)
http://www.champions-online.com/frontpage
Earthrise
I have huge hopes for this. Sandbox and sorta like SWG pre CU / NGE? I cross my fingers.
http://www.play-earthrise.com/index.php?action=showstatic&id=6
Guild Wars 2
We don't know much yet, but it is going to be without monthly fee still, and paid expansions like before, but more importantly it is going to be less instanced and better. I never played the original GW, but this one I have pretty good feelings about.
http://www.massively.com/2008/06/27/guild-wars-2-beta-not-in-2008/
WAR - Warhammer Online
I am in beta. And I love it. Played a lot of tabletop too. I hope Mythic pulls it off. Great new innovations and I like the idea of more pvp stuff to do. AoC flunked completely for me in that regard; as there is no reason to fight. Go WAR! :-)
Diablo 3
Okay not an mmo, but more interesting than many mmos, incl. AoC. I had to add it here.
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/
Stargate Worlds
I think this one is interesting, but I hope it isn't too instanced and I hope those puzzles will be well done. One to watch for sure.
http://www.stargateworlds.com/
Bioware Untitled MMO
Most people expect this to be KOTOR Online. Me too. I would much, MUCH rather play a game connected to the six movies' timeline. CloneWars would be okay.
Bioware's CEO has pretty much said that his idea of making an mmo is to copy the WoW way of doing things. So if this is KOTOR IP and WoW'ish in gameplay it will just be a bunch of kiddies with lightsabers. I could never play that.

Other mmos under development:

Blackstar (sci-fi mmo)
Not entirely convinced but I will keep my eye on it for now
http://www.spacetimestudios.com/games/
Unannounced Massively Multiplayer Game
(mmo by Carbine Studios, incl. 17 Blizzard lead and senior developers, also under the NCsoft umbrella)
http://www.carbinestudios.com/
Untitled mmo project
I believe they are working on something else but the kids semi-mmo Wizard101.com. Check out their website.
http://www.gamerhotline.com/gaming-and-technology-vets-team-up-to-form-kingsisle-entertainment-inc
Fallen Earth
Watching the latest video as I write. It looks really, really bad. Poor art direction and poor graphics, cheesy FPS shooter stuff as in first generation of the games.
Global Agenda
Nice screenies! But might be too fps/counterstrikish for me.
http://www.hirezstudios.com/global_agenda.html
http://www.hirezstudios.com/hi-rez_press3.html
Huxley
Webzen is making this. The people behind SUN. I snuck into the Chinese version of SUN. It was very grindy. I have no hopes for this game or this developer. Graphics of Huxley is not so bad, but I am still uncertain on the gameplay can sustain as an mmo. Time will tell. FPS and mmo (esp. if there will be a monthly fee) does seem a little hard to pull off.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/197
Mortal Online
My first thought was, WOW. After checking it out I feel there is something fishy, darkfall-like about it. I am not convinced this is a real mmo under development. Just my opinion though. I am still following it for a little bit.
Rapture
Final Fantasy XI developers. I am not sure this is for me though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapture_%28video_game%29
The Day
Reloaded studios mmo. I love the art and concept. Nothing much is known, but it is high on my watch list.
http://www.reloadedstudios.com/eng/project/project.asp
http://www.reloadedstudios.com/eng/project/art.asp
The Chronicles of Spellborn
On first glance it looks great. Rumours is starting to get out that it might not be so hot. I am not THAT excited about this. Might not bring anything new or deep to the table.
Dreamlords, The Reawakening
Just a revamp of Dreamlords. I don't think this is interesting.
http://www.stratics.com/php-bin/show_content.php?content=27332
Untitled mmo project(s)
Supposed to launch a title Q3 this year, but I don't think something will big will come from here. True Games Interactive is the company.
http://www.truegamesinteractive.com/
Celetania
Free game with monthly fee. Looks a bit like a cheesy EVE clone. Nothing major, I think. Supposedly an mmo with a continuous online multiplayer world.
MMO?
Website seems to be down now. Can't recall what it is?
New Cryptic stuff
Check the pictures.
http://www.crypticstudios.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=87&Itemid=34
Crusades
Sci-fi mmo. Art design is not impressive. Not really one to watch.
http://www.vizualfxstudios.com/crusades/
Adellion
Some good concepts. But this mmo under development has a very poor website.
http://www.adellion.com/faq.php#honour1
WELL Online
Russian developers. Blog is in Russing, but this link has screenies and English info. Not looking bad so far, but can they pull it off?
http://www.wellonline.com/news
http://wellonline.proboards99.com/
Darkfall
This is vaporware and a hoax in my opinion. Feel free to follow it but find your own link. I can't even see the game could work with the things they promised and mind you I LOVE sandbox mmos. But this is not coherent.
Jumpgate Evolution
Might be interesting, but looks like an EVE clone with more colourful graphics (not better) and you can't fly Capitol Ships. Also pvp might be more stiffled here. I might as well go back to EVE. Maybe. Still worth following for a while.
http://www.jumpgate-evolution.com/
40k mmo
Way too early to tell, but I am definitely keeping eyes open. This could be big! Great IP.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6166560.html
The Secret World
Its being made by Funcom and Ragnar Tornquist. After AoC I have lost all faith in Funcom, I paid for buddy keys I never got, was lied to about sieges being in the game and DX10. So I am not so excited about The Secret World. Too early to tell.
http://www.darkdaysarecoming.com/
Citadel of Sorcery
Can hardly make it past the frontpage. The webdesign is awful. When a game can't make a proper website I have no belief in their creative ability to make an mmo. Also very generic fantasy.
http://www.citadelofsorcery.com
Black Prophecy
I saw this game site a few times. Nothing much but a few really nice screenshots. I am gonna watch it. Game is a sci-fi spaceship mmo with real time combat.
Ryzom (re-releasing)
Just checked out Ryzom some more; originally I wrote it was not so interesting, now it reminds me more and more of early SWG. I never played it, but if they revampt the graphics and the game, it might be one to watch; the fans seems very dedicated. I will keep an eye open!
Runes of Magic
Generic fantasy. Nothing special.
http://www.runesofmagic.com/main.php?lang=en
Project Offset
Not Strictly an mmo, but let's include this as it is interesting. Actually it looks damn nice. Nice renders and animations. Nice is not the word; AWESOME.
http://www.projectoffset.com/news.php
World in Darkness
CCP is rumoured to be making a World in Darkness mmo. I played a bit of Vampire: The Masquerade when I was heavily into pen and paper rpg (when I was much younger). So I would definitely watch out for this if it materializes. Also I respect CCP for their endeveaur to make EVE online a great game. Esp. the fact they have free expansions. One to watch!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Darkness
All Points bulletin
This is a game that caters to the big Grand Theft Auto fan crowd. I am not a fan and I don't like the art work I saw, but I am sure a game like this will find a following.
Force of Arms
Upcoming mmo codenamed 'Copernicus'
Salvatore and Todd McFarlane, two very cool people are involved here. One to watch!
Slipgate Ironwork's Unannounced mmo
Not much is known yet.
DC Universe (by SOE, expected to launch next year)
I loved COH and am watching out for Champions Online but I will check this out too. I was always more of a Marvel fan than DC, but why not. Maybe the competition will drive one of them to be really, really good. I just read this from the link below:
"Character creation promises to be diverse, and all of the expected MMO features are listed: character leveling, PvP arenas, raids, shared environments as well as instanced zones."
Not very promising. Levels, raids, pvp arenas. YUCK!
www.massively.com/2008/06/27/dc-universe-online-details-emerge/
Ramayan 3392 A.D. (by SOE)
This is actually a bit interesting, simply because it is different. I will keep an eye out.
kotaku.com/gaming/ramayan-3392-a%27d%27/soe-and-virgin-team-for-ramayan-mmo-287706.php
Star Trek Online
Third time's the charm? Cryptic has taken over. I like Cryptic. It might be a good thing. I do think, however, that Star Trek is a very hard IP to do. Already I see signs it could become a PVE game with only two playable races/factions.

In memory of Laura "Taera" Genender. Passed away on Aug/13/08 - Rest In Peace; you will not be forgotten
Fallen Earth was the one game I was excited about. IDK which videos you have seen but the ones I saw wern't cheezy at all.. But I guess everyone has different tastes.
The game sounds awesome, having to craft your own ammo and building vehicles from scraps you find. Being able to take clothes from corpses and scavenge other things from them also. The character customization looked pretty sweet too, being able to have a hairy avatar and being able to roll up pant legs when you feel like going gangsta or button or unbutton your shirt. Getting tattoos at tattoo parlors. Oh and we can't forget about zombies thats what got me interested.
Its not all first person you can do 3rd person shooter or have melee weapons too. Plus the main npc actually talk to you about missions and what not so you don't have to read all the time. I cant remember how much but It was a decent amount.Oh and its skill based, although their are lvls but what level your character is dosent say how powerfully they really are.
Well I'll look into some of that other stuff you posted but I advise you look at more videos and read the forums. You have to dig to find some stuff for this game, I found some really cool videos of the developers running around the begining area.
"Fallen Earth
Watching the latest video as I write. It looks really, really bad. Poor art direction and poor graphics, cheesy FPS shooter stuff as in first generation of the games."
If you came away from any of the Fallen Earth videos with those impressions, forgive me if I take anything you review with a large chunk ( a grain just wouldn't do ) of salt.
what is fishy about mortal? people seem to thinks it's vaporware just because it has similar features to darkfall. reposting this here to "convince" you that it is a real mmo that is in development.
1) they are using unreal engine 3. epic games doesn't license their products to companies that are not well funded as it would look bad on their engine if they didn't make a quality game.
here's a quote from mark rein, vice president of epic games.
“We're excited that new developers like Star Vault, who have such great potential, are recognizing the value of licensing Unreal Engine 3. We know this is the way they can realize their creative ambitions quickly and deliver great games to market. Some of the most significant companies in the game business have licensed Unreal Engine 3 to build their MMO games and Star Vault has now joined an illustrious group. We'll be watching their progress with great interest."
2) starvault is listed on the swedish stock exchange.
http://www.aktietorget.se/Instrument.aspx?InstrumentID=SE0002149369
3) they will be at the leipzig games convention in august showing mortal online.
Jumpgate Evolution really has no similarities to Eve except for the fact that they are both in space and are mmo's. JGE is all about the pvp. They are planning on also having pve activities though. Think of Wing Commander with people flying with you and against you. There will be crafting, mining and hauling I believe. There are 3 main factions and it sounds like numerous sub-factions. Ships will be piloted with joysticks or with a mouse. Combat is "twitch-based".
Sounds like it is gonna be a fun game. I am looking forward to it.
Great list. A lot of them look promising.
I found it funny you list JGE being about PVP AS A DIFFERENCE?
No MMO does PVP as well as EVE. There is total loss/gain It effects the universe around you.
The difference between JGE and EVE is JGE is twitch, and most of all, DEPTH. EVE has an insane amount of depth and freedom in the game. There's even an investment market and the stock market.
Shoot EVE even made the New York Times recently
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/28/arts/television/28beve.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
SHOHADAKU
ditto. if graphics is all you care about play aoc. the latest video has fairly good graphics.
www.youtube.com/watch
they are going for a post apocliptic gritty setting. not shiney breastplates and swords with glowing fog and haze all over everything.
lol
I hope it comes out, but I'm not gonna wait for it, sounds like vaporware to me.
www.projectoffset.com
This is not an MMO, for the record. Though, you maybe should keep it listed anyway... just because it's amazing
If I recall, it will have online multiplayer, but that's as close to an MMO as it gets(more like an FPS-RPG)
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/22926.html for a trailer of it.
Well, everyone has their opinion.....you did do a great service for listing games this site does not, and for that we all thank you.
However, I do think CRUSADES does have lot of potential...from one who has played SWG pre-CU, I was pleasantly surprised. http://www.vizualfxstudios.com/crusades/
That video was made before the graphics update as well.
I'm not here to complete my forum PVP dailies.
Nm, I found the Darkfall site. Only thing that gets updated are the forums, filled with WoW hate apparently.
Vaporware > WoW?

Isn't your comment on Eve's pvp a matter of opinion? Considering there are people that do not like Eve-Online's PvP. Kind of hard to swallow such a statement when everyone has a difference of opinion. Unless of course you can offer up some sort of proof to make that comment factual?
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.

I don't even know anyone that likes Eve period, let alone any aspect of it.
Is "The Agency" supossed to be an MMO?

First time I have read up on Mortal. Thanks for the link and facts. Looks hopeful... but little info it seems on the website for a game due to release in a year??? Hope they can pull it off, if so i think i would give it a shot.
Thanks for the list too. I dont mind reading up on some independent homework every once and a while. Keep up the good work.
fallen earth is going through a graphics revamp... they recently took down their screenshot gallery and expect to have stuff up soon.
FE is the closest thing to SWG that I've seen and the only game I've wanted to play since then.
another mmo that isn't listed here is being made by bluehole studio. unreal engine 3 is in use. don't know if it will be international though. just thought i'd mention it...
http://www.bluehole.net/
Nice list. Hope we get a better picture of what is coming out soon (hopefully at E3). Alot of "secret" mmos out there.
OMG, this looks nice. Can you read Korean?
A year or maybe 2 ago I thought the folks behind Eve Online got the IP from WhiteWolf Studios to make an MMO based on World of Darkness. Any one heard anything new about this at all?
http://www.speedtest.net/result/7300033012
What was the eastern European MMO again that's being made?
OMG, this looks nice. Can you read Korean?
nope. found out about it from epic games' site.
