To the OP... 1.) Where did ANYONE from Bioware say they're MMO was going to be WoW-cloned? They have said repeatedly it will be a STORY-DRIVEN MMO, and not like anything currently on the market... YOU are the one that injected the WoW-clone belief, not them. 2.) You don't seem to be a fan of Fallen Earth. That's fine, but you lost all or any credibility when you say the game looks cheesy and the graphics are poor. The graphics are fine, the game looks great with a sandbox appeal and skill system, AND FPS combat... Sorry, your post isn't the least bit comprehensive or objective. Fallen Earth and Bioware are probably the 2 MMO games that won't be like anything currently on the market and you bash both of them...
I should have expected the multitude of fans charging in to protect their upcoming mmo of choice. It is clearly just my opinions as I said. Fallen Earth does have some interesting aspects, but the art direction is awful.
So does that mean this game will be bad? No! I don't even value graphics over gameplay, but the animations and graphics really look like first generation FPS. Anyone can see that. Also it lacks a cohesive art direction.
That women in camo with guns looks like something from a bad toy company. Sorry.
Again, this is my opinion.
On to your other point, Bioware CEO clearly said that WoW is THE model for mmo making in an interview.

Nice list. I must stress, however, that Aion is not a Korean grinder. A little research goes a very long way
I follow Aion pretty closely, and I never said it IS a grinder, I said I hope it isn't.
What I mean is that the game looks great, but whether or not it will truly appeal to me depends on the content. I feel it is still flimsy but promising.
Darkfall This is vaporware and a hoax in my opinion. Feel free to follow it but find your own link. I can't even see the game could work with the things they promised and mind you I LOVE sandbox mmos. But this is not coherent.
Sorry bud, going to have to update your list. Public stock news about a publisher working with Aventurine. Required by LAW to announce thing like this, and they have, and its been confirmed. Not vaporware. Whether or not it will live up to expectations... that's to be decided, but its not vaporware, the very thought that it was al a hoax to screw with us was always a completely retarded theory based off the lowest levels of trolling and negatiety

I would tell you what I think of Darkfall's alledged publisher and that piece of news, but it would break several forum rules of moderation!

I think you are confused about what the label vaporware entails. It indicates a game that has been announced and development for a very long time that has repeatedly missed expected dates and has not been seen by anyone outside the development staff. Duke Nukem also fits in this category very well, although there are indications they are again working on that game.
It is most certainly Vaporware, the label fits this game perfectly. It has been in development for over 7 years and since it has never been shown to anyone at any tradeshow or to any publication, there is no verification besides a few screens that the game even exists. Tasos is really good a obfustication and that is about it so far.
When you consider how small a staff they are working with and the grandiose plans for the game, it is a pretty safe assumption that the game as stated by the website will never see the light of day. Now you might see a very trimmed down game eventually show up, it most certainly won't have all those features.
As others have mentioned, you forgot the "Copernicus" MMORPG from 38 Studios. They should be pretty close to the point where they will release a good bit of information on it. From what I am hearing, it is being developed as an "AAA" MMORPG.
"Those who dislike things based only on the fact that they are popular are just as shallow and superficial as those who only like them for the same reason."

Already added before your post, but thanks! It looks interesting. I read several Salvatore novels and lots of McFarlane comics. Definitely one to watch!

Anyway, I suppose we just look at different things. I know several others who do things like this, and pay more attention to the site than the game (at first). I suppose it kind of is important to make an important first impression, but to me graphics and sites don't matter- it is all about the game.
They are adding new graphics (the screens are just placeholders) and creating a new site and well, but that is not their main focus at the moment.
So, your first view is on graphics and sites, while mine is on the actual gameplay..

That's okay, my retort wasn't sweet either!
Actually I am not looking at graphics before gameplay. But what I do is that I try to gauge the seriousness of the company. Is the website very crappy, it tends to be because the game is underfunded, a "pet" project, or the development team is large. Is it likely for them to achieve their goals. Do they promise too much.
Trust me, I really love sandbox / skill mmos. Esp. pre CU/NGE SWG. But on the other hand I am not one to jump on the Darkfall wagon just because they have hyped it so much with almost nothing to show after 7 years of development.
I really want a smaller mmo to come along and give a great gameplay experience.
That said I do love a cohesive art direction. AoC was awesome in that regard. As much as I LOVE pre nge SWG I probably wouldn't go back to a classic server if SOE did one. Why? Not because of any resentment for SOE, but because it is hard to go back, you know.
For me WoW's graphics are adequate and looks more cohesive than that sorcery game. I do have standards, if not I could go back to playing a MUD with no graphics at all. WAR for example looks perfectly fine to me and I pay more attention to the fact my goblin will be able to do cultivation as a means of crafting (yeaaahh!).
I really want to see an independent developer enter the scene and take over a big chunk of the other's playerbase.
I really want to see RAID centric games fail. Why should 10101029298 people play so 10 elite guilds have the time to get the leet raid gear. Or having to join some guild run by some neo-na$i dude with a small weener...
I want open worlds to explore, ressources that shift dynamically, a game that hires an expert economist to control the micro and macro economy. I also want social reasons to group and communicate with players and I want pvp that is meaningful and not either in closed instances/arenas/battlegrounds and neither is in sieges closed off for the public.
Earthrise might be the answer to that. Or one of the others.
And THAT is why I have started this list above. To keep a central overview of all the large and small mmos out there. Is there a new SWG being born out there, developed on the fringe of the mmo arena?
It is fun to scour for these smaller productions and stumble upon potential gems like The Day or the group38 project etc.

I wrote a long thread, but I accidently exited out of it, so I'll cut it down a bit.
I do not understand how a website shows seriousness. I look at developer experience before I look at how great their website looks (these devs have been developing games for awhile now). I do not see how, just because none of them are web designers, this somehow makes them les serious than the next developer.
The developers come on these forums and answer questions and concerns that are posted on the forums here at MMORPG.com. That sounds pretty damned serious to me, yet for some reason you question if they are serious because their site looks poor? Just doesn't make sense to me.
They answer questions and concerns about their game on these forums, but I suppose somehow they aren't serious cause their site isn't fancy? I think that answering questiongs and concerns on these forums makes them a hell of a lot more serious than if they were to just have a fancy site...
P.S. They are updating the graphics (they are just placeholders currently) and website later on, but the devs main focus is the gameplay right now.

I thought I was pretty clear above. As I said I try to gauge the company, not just on graphics. I read everything they say incl. what they promise about the gameplay. Then I judge if it is likely to be big or interesting.
In my personaly belief a very feature heavy and large scale mmo with depth requires a tons of ressources. I can't see anything on that website, incl. graphics that seems like it is big one to watch.
never judge a game's graphics when its still in alpha.
I recall that Lord of the Rings didnt look all that great even into beta. There wasnt much detail and the avatar's walk was strange (kinda wobbled).
Right before launch they really added in the candy. Today without a doubt LOTR has the best graphics (along side Conan) of any MMO around.
Fallen Earth's devs have stated that the engine theyre using for graphics wasnt tweaked at all yet. They wanted to get all the features into the design, then worry about fixing things. FE just finished alpha and is headed into beta now. The graphics will be retooled now that features are complete.
I fully expect Fallen Earth's graphics be to sweet come launch. Dont judge a game based on screenshots and video taken in alpha.

I don't judge per se, but rather I give my opinion on what I see right now. No final judgement. I wonder what engine FE is using. It doesn't look advanced. But I think art direction is not something you can just throw on a mmo the last minute.
The game list here at MMORPG contains still a couple games in development not mentioned in this thread. And of course the ratings in that list are a bit less biased than this thread, which is only representing the opinion of one single person.
No one here has listed the upcoming MMO from Red5 Studios. They have the lead producer from WoW heading the project, have mentioned the game will be based on PVP, and will not be set in a fantasy landcape. They also have a ton of funding. Check em out.

Whether or not it will live up to expectations... that's to be decided, but its not vaporware, the very thought that it was al a hoax to screw with us was always a completely retarded theory based off the lowest levels of trolling and negatiety
Darkfall Travelogues!

lol a darkfall fanboy troll finds his way to my thread!
How cute

Firstly, I am not connected with the devs, just a fanboi Also, sorry for the hostility, I was tired :P

'nuff said

never judge a game's graphics when its still in alpha.
But I think art direction is not something you can just throw on a mmo the last minute.

good list some look really great... no accounting for your taste however.

One more thing. That pretty Offsett Engine that everyone clamors about. Red 5 liscenced it for their game.
