Either due to a bug or a ploy or something, it seems that all accounts are currently active. Several old vets from my server and an "old" account I haven't paid for in nearly a year are all active. You can also post on the forums too.
I know most here really don't care to play the game again for obvious reason I don't blame you for, but who knows....you can log in and maybe look around for the hell of it or post on the forums and say hey to some old friends.
I have no idea if it really works for every single account but so far it has worked for every single unsubbed account that I personally know of. No idea how long it will last either.

A couple of my friends logged in the other day. Their accounts were active (re accuring bill), but they checked their credit card statements and no money had actually been billed. Wierd shizzle.
IT'S A TRICK...SEND NO REPLY!
They are attempting to up their SUB numbers for the Month of July. DO NOT login. SOE is trying to save the game with this tactic. This is their final act of trickery. They are close to shutting down and will do anything to keep it going.
DO NOT LOGIN!...LET THIS GAME DIE IN PEACE!
Nah, it's not really weird. It's just the last round of vet trials.
It happens very frequently. I get nearly 1/4 of the year to play for free just because I don't subscribe anymore : )
There was a bit of an outcry when it was found out that EQ/EQ2's vet trial was going on until the end of July while SWG's ended a month earlier. It's possible they gave into that and have extended the SWG trial to match with the EQ one.

I was able to log into the forums, but can't post. Several posts on there about a crafting revamp.
Seriously?! Again!? Give me a #@!$ing break, they are still revamping this pile?
There are still idiots posting "decay" threads. Give up Obi-Won...Just give up.
Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.
Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside
Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

the crafting revamp is to make weaponsmiths viable once again by making the weapons they craft finally better than looted weapons again
I don't think so Obraik.
My trial ended on June 9th (about 8 days longer then I was supposed to have), and I haven't been able to log in under that account.
I had 2 accounts back in the old days and both seem to be on the same cycle of vet trials. My friends account seems to be on a different cycle. His account wasn't activated for a vet trial at the same time mine was but his is now.
So I guess the vet trials are staggered for whatever reason.
BTW my EQ2 account is currently on another vet trial as well, which would make it 4 months (or 1/4 of a year) for free.

Skee, they have been complaining about this since May of 2005, and the last "trader revamp" happened, I forget, Late 2006? Please don't tell me this is an example of the devs listening to the players again...

Same situation here. I suppose if I had not activated all three of my SWG accounts for the May vet trial, I'd be able to log into one of them now. I suspect that the vet trials are on a timer to only let you get one every three months or so. Two of my accounts were not in pending status back for the two week trial in February, only my main account which has existed since SWG beta3, and has my unlock slot.
My Vanguard account is pending now though...even though I never bought the game. I was in the beta, but couldn't get it to run on my computer, but my old beta account shows "pending". So go figure!
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Why would anyone want SWG to die?
While i understand all the crying about Pre-CU you guys need to get over it and move on.
alot of hardcore Starwars fans play this game.
Imho its still better than games like WoW and AoC so please stfu.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
At this point in time, I think if SWG is going to die, then it's going to die. If it's going to stick around for a bit, then it's going to stick around. I'm pretty sure that if a new Star Wars game is actually coming out, then SWG'S fate has already been decided by the powers that be and there's nothing anyone can do to really affect the outcome already planned.
If you're a "hardcore star wars fan" who plays SWG, you're more akin to a "hardcore lightsaber fan" than anything else.
Any game based on a license like Star Wars, where you're living and existing inside its "galaxy" and you can hang posters from the movies on the wall? Is really lame. ... really really lame.
*Aragorn gets home after a hard day of fighting the evils of Middle Earth, he turns to his candle illuminated wall and he gives a quiet nod and a firm thumbs-up to his collector's edition Gandalf poster mounted above the fireplace, He adds a soft. "Hell yeah...." before going to get himself some Tang from the ice box.*
Die Star Wars Galaxies, die bleeding...

they want it to die cause of a vindictive streak. Its not bothering them anymore other then it exists. SOE is not taking any money from them and they aren't playing the game (or so they say..). If its "alive" that means their life is not complete. To hell with the players that play it now who cares about them you see they probably think they are "saving" them from themselves or something.... They would rather see a player base move onto another game and not play this one for their own selfish hate towards a company that they no longer have anything to do with. That's why they want it to die.. for their own selfish longstanding vendetta and agenda which is supposed to end with the death of a videogame they no longer play (or so they say).
...It's called a vet trial bud. Calm down

I prefer to call it kicking a dead horse once every two months. It's both fun and therapeutic. I also have no problem being called black by you. You should also know, that if the servers go black tomorrow, it hurts a small fraction of those botched by SOE.

Yes, I can login right NOW...but, I don't want to.
SOE changed the way the trials work to prevent that. The trials no longer need to be activated by logging in, they are automatically 'active'. That means if your account is included in a trial, it is counted among the 'active subscriptions', even if you don't log in.
My advice is for you to log in, and then post here detailing your experience. I did this myself during the last couple trials. You can find my last trial experience here:

SWG is, without a shred of hyperbole, the worst MMO around today, and I can't think of any dead ones that were worse either. The core game is just flat out bad, and no amount of additions or tweaks can fix it. It's just lipstick on a pig.

Actually no, DeadMeat said that they do not count trials in the active subscription count.
Also, no, because you don't like something, it doesn't make your opinion fact.
If you ask me it's kind of BS that a lot of players just get to log in for free all the time and play when there are people out there who are actually foolish enough to pay for SWG. And the people who log in using vet trials and or other methods are just greifing the servers. I feel bad for those who actually pay money to SWG.
Ok, I just logged in again for the first time in almost a year and HOLY CRAP!! Who ever is responsible for the current state of this game should be dragged out into the middle of the street and shot.
I couldn't uninstall this P.O.S. fast enough.

"Active Subscriptions" are considered any account that can log into the game. SOE has used that as their "Active Subscriptions" count since the early days of Everquest. "Active Subscriptions" are the PR numbers SOE uses (always stated in the fine print). "Paid Subscriptions" is the internal auditing number they use for actual paid accounts.
Also, many more people agree with me than agree with you as to the state of SWG. It isn't just bad word of mouth that has lead SWG to the dismal player numbers it enjoys today. The reason more folks don't play the game is due to the core mechanics. SWG has been at a point where it finally actually needs a complete core revamp (and has for a bit more than two and a half years). Unfortunately (at least for the people who want to play a Star Wars MMO and have so little self respect that they are willing to give money to SOE), revamping the core of SWG is no longer an option. Too bad that decision wasn't made until the game was finally in a state to actually need a core revamp.
All of your cheerleading every crappy coat of lipstick slapped on the pig that is SWG hasn't helped the game overcome the fact that it is just not any fun to play. You're down to the folks who would press a button to give themselves an electric shock, if the button had a Star Wars label on it. Don't confuse a handful of Star Wars fanatics, with absolutely no self control, or self respect, with folks who actually think the current version of SWG is a decent, let alone good, MMO. If it wasn't for the stupidity of the folks at LEC and the "Star Wars" name, you'd be forced to shill some other game, since SWG would be little more than a bad memory.
