IT'S A TRICK...SEND NO REPLY! They are attempting to up their SUB numbers for the Month of July. DO NOT login. SOE is trying to save the game with this tactic. This is their final act of trickery. They are close to shutting down and will do anything to keep it going. DO NOT LOGIN!...LET THIS GAME DIE IN PEACE!
SOE changed the way the trials work to prevent that. The trials no longer need to be activated by logging in, they are automatically 'active'. That means if your account is included in a trial, it is counted among the 'active subscriptions', even if you don't log in.
My advice is for you to log in, and then post here detailing your experience. I did this myself during the last couple trials. You can find my last trial experience here:
SWG is, without a shred of hyperbole, the worst MMO around today, and I can't think of any dead ones that were worse either. The core game is just flat out bad, and no amount of additions or tweaks can fix it. It's just lipstick on a pig.
Actually no, DeadMeat said that they do not count trials in the active subscription count.
Also, no, because you don't like something, it doesn't make your opinion fact.
"Active Subscriptions" are considered any account that can log into the game. SOE has used that as their "Active Subscriptions" count since the early days of Everquest. "Active Subscriptions" are the PR numbers SOE uses (always stated in the fine print). "Paid Subscriptions" is the internal auditing number they use for actual paid accounts.
Also, many more people agree with me than agree with you as to the state of SWG. It isn't just bad word of mouth that has lead SWG to the dismal player numbers it enjoys today. The reason more folks don't play the game is due to the core mechanics. SWG has been at a point where it finally actually needs a complete core revamp (and has for a bit more than two and a half years). Unfortunately (at least for the people who want to play a Star Wars MMO and have so little self respect that they are willing to give money to SOE), revamping the core of SWG is no longer an option. Too bad that decision wasn't made until the game was finally in a state to actually need a core revamp.
All of your cheerleading every crappy coat of lipstick slapped on the pig that is SWG hasn't helped the game overcome the fact that it is just not any fun to play. You're down to the folks who would press a button to give themselves an electric shock, if the button had a Star Wars label on it. Don't confuse a handful of Star Wars fanatics, with absolutely no self control, or self respect, with folks who actually think the current version of SWG is a decent, let alone good, MMO. If it wasn't for the stupidity of the folks at LEC and the "Star Wars" name, you'd be forced to shill some other game, since SWG would be little more than a bad memory.
Heh, let's be realistic, SWG has always had more people that own a copy of it but aren't actually playing it. Before the NGE, there was over 1 million copies of the game sold, yet the game peaked at around 250k-300k (estimated) active subs.
You are deeply dellusioned (not to mention rather arrogant) if you think that you are somehow a better, more intelectual person then others based on the choice of game someone has decide to play. Believe it or not, it's a big wide world out there filled with billions of people and just as many different opinions. Your opinion on a game does not make you any better of a person.
I'm going to log in and use my Trial and post my experience on here. I will also attempt to get more screenshots and perhaps a Fraps or 2 up. I'll tell it how it REALLY is.
I'm not even going to bother seeing if I can log in.
The last time I played it (dec 07) I had no fun, found combat boring, and felt like I was just wasting my time. The only thing I would play it for is crafting. But since even maxed items I made don't sell, I see no point. Yes there is a WS upgrade, but that doesn't help any of my other crafters and what they make to sell.
This isn't to say those that enjoy the game shouldn't play. I just get no enjoyment from it and I won't play.
Good luck.
