I'm on the fence about this sort of thing. The "fast paced action" sounds interesting, and true to the genre. However, I HATE the fps crap, and I feel that crap is more for kids, and I'd love to let them have it. I am a straight-up AD&D-loven pen[cil]-n-paper using comic-book-reading old-schooler! And while some of you may try this game and move on in about six months after the shiny wears off, I will be there for the long-haul. And I want them to make the game for me. Yeah, I said it.

If i can make a character who can pick up heavy crap and hit somebody with it and withstand most/any return attacks; AND make a character who is almost as sturdy yet throws fire [or "energy"!], I'll be a happy camper. Seriously, if I can pick and choose what type of hero I make none of that "r u a heelorz?" crap. Then hell, I'll adapt to the rest. Hopefully, the game will be easy enough to learn/master. Yeah, I'm in. Bring it on!

lol - I will give you a hint

A pity. Another game bites the dust, another big flop in the making. Sigh.

Right there is the killer for your whole post that turns it into a - I dont like this type of game - therefore the game will fail post.

All posts by OP are essentially the same, just cut/paste new game and links.

It's been awhile since this post was made and a lot more info is out. It's action gamy but not really mold breaking. AoC was a bit more clicky, but this is basically what anyone is used to in click and activate a power game.

Just you have child powers to certain powers depending on how you click them. Wanna throw a big fire ball? Hold it down. A bunch of lil' blasts? Tap it. Jump at a mob and use a melee hit and it'll be different than if you're standing right against them.

But there's no up down left right hit ABC at the same time and then roll twice blah blah. That comparison is too dreamy.

The videos paint a much clearer picture that it's paced differently, so there won't be a whole bunch of housewives playing to flirt with cuz it's too fast...

I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.

For those being drama queens in this thread, just remember - CoH/CoV could just as easily be played with a USB controller. So can most MMORPGs.

Removing auto-attack and adding a "twitch" factor isn't new either. MMORPGs differ from MMOFPSs in regarding to the character development and story/quest structure.

Why don't you try waiting to actually see how the game plays (in-game videos) to pass ultimate judgment on how to classify it?

I had Champions Online HIGH on my list, and I practically kicked it out. Why? He said Champions online will be an ACTION RPG, where you duck and cover, jump out of the way and block. Like in console fighting games. Geez. I am SO dissapointed. I had hoped it would be along the City of Heroes lines. I am fed up with everyone wanting to make a Conanesque game these days. :(
The GREAT revelation AoC was to me, as much as some things are fun, that the fast paced, action RPG combat takes away A LOT of strategical depth and character development depth. If combat is like piano playing, you cant give the characters many different attacks, like in a WOW or EQ2 or LOTRO style of skill based combat. It feels exciting at first and grows boring VERY fast, because essentially you do the VERY same from early levels to the end. Everything complex is entirely ruled out in such fast paced action combat.

What?  You want Champions Online to snuff out CoH with extremely simular gameplay?  Companies don't do tht anymore in the MMO world.  Everyone learned from Sony's mistake in making EQ 2 play like EQ1.  EQ1 dropped dramtically in subscriptions because.....well......people would just play the upgraded EQ2.

Champions Online must be different than CoH, otherwise CoH is just a waste.  The new Wrhammer: Dawn of War game is completely different from it's original game also.  That is how you keep people playing BOTH games.

Umm, it's a competing game, not a sequal. If people are only going to play one super hero genre mmo the folks working on Champions would probably rather you pick Champions over City of Heroes.

Only the single player campaign is different.

Skirmish modes and multiplayer are the same as the last one.

Action RPG is the way to go especially for a superhero mmo. It puts you in the game instead of  eq based mmo style.

try a LotRO Warden and see how boring it is.  Besides combat is not the place for character development, it is the place to test your characters previous development.  I do like the idea of instant powers, but you will always have to wait for the graphical actions, and that is your timer.  this game sounds like a complete winner to me.
