The population seems to be doing well. I thought I read that the game retained about 500k subs though at the beginning of this month.. which is a little shocking. I canceled about a month ago, but I still have friends on different servers and in large guilds saying the game is still well populated.
500,000 players created an account in their billing system is what it said in parenthesis. Earlier they announced 700k players created accounts but my guess is that included beta test accounts since beta testers all had to create an account.
My guess is they are down to 300K-350K players or so, which is still a very healthy number as long as it doesn't keep dropping like it has been.
You are right, 350K is what the norweigan newspaper (no, Im not norw but I can read it) said. And to be fair, that's not so bad, twice the number of LOTRO. My guild picked up 12 noobs this week, all new to the game and we only did 1 round to the noob area to promote so there is still quite many new players.
There was more for the first 2 weeks but after that it seems stable to me, some quits, other starts.
No Way! this is by far one of the worst & most boring mmo game i have ever played..the developers had many intresting indeas, but it's nothing more than a button pushing meaningless hack and slash game..
the community sucks, the pvp sucks, the graphics sucks in term of epic feeling, the gui is one of the worst ever made.
im norwegian and im not spesialy proud of a product like this..
nee, im going back to vanguard, atleast that game is playable now
1) I do not know why I keep periodically checking this forum because I quit the game several days before my first free month ended. That being said ...
2) If you want a better idea of how many people are still playing vs. number who have quit, then it seems to me that you could seek out people who are quitting guilds that were around from the beginning, and ask them how many haven't logged on in more than say ... 14 days. When I left the game in late June, there were already many people who hadn't logged on in more than 14 days. (I wish I had thought of this then. I might have actrually had some statistics)

Directly from Xfire page. The High Water mark was 17,852 from what I saw.
Any poll taken is registered on the cookie for this site so there are some limits. I have also seen forum polls on the AoC forums that mirror this. and also this isn't the only poll on MMORPG.com that comes in around 50%. When multiple sources are telling you are eating shit, there is a good chance you are eating furtiizer.
If you read the forums, noone is playing AoC If you log into the game, you see a lot of people playing AoC
thats true. im no fanboy, but im not stupid, according to this forum, thsi is the worst game on earth, but there are still a great number of people playing this game.
I canceled my sub before my free month ran out. At this point I can't justify paying a monthly fee for it. Too much stuff is broken and gets broken after every patch.
Funcom might bring it around but it's probably going to take over 6 months. Besides that, I dislike the whole hyping and lying that went on, and still goes on.
Not letting those incompetent, useless, nerf-heavy patchers get anymore of my hard earned cash. Those idiots can't fix major technical issues that have been around for months now.

I am still playing and plan to stay for quite a while, may quit when WAR is released(but will wait a few months after war comes out to see the response). ATM I am very much enjoying myself, and today's update actually had some good fixes/additions for the first time.
Considering the game's been out for a few months already, and this patch is the first in ages that is actually USEFUL and not dreaded... it is a telling example of the quality of patches coming out for AoC.
I really wanted to love this game, jumped alot of hoops to get and play it on opening day. What a disappointment.

I'm still playing, but I have a question for you: If a game isn't instanced isn't it true the gameworlds needs to be allot bigger so that not everyone is cramped up in on spot which created longer travel times so my question is how do you picture yourself a game that isn't instanced and doesn't have lots of travel time?
I feel the whole reason that these games are becoming more and more instance'd is pure because so many people dislike travel times so developers try to make as much content close together, which can't be done if it's a seemless world cause like I said we would get to many people on one spot so the gameworld has to be bigger to eleminate people camping or going after the same thing, thus creating longer travel times. Another thing I find rather strange is that many complain about Hybroria feeling rather small, though people like OP seem to find it pretty big due to his complaint about travel times. And yet many keep wondering why these games change as much as we keep seeing.
Again (what a great game) SWG handled pretty well with camped sites not having to create new instances for that. We had missions yerminals and we could pick up 2 at a time but as many times as we wanted and our objective just pop somewhere close by for u to kill/destroy. There was mobs for everyone, missions for everyone at the level u wanted (there was level for missions but not for characters) no problem with camped sited to grind. There was some special dungeons that u could find ppl when u hunting and u had to share or wait but thoe were not grinding places but high end loot farming spots and there ware quite a few dungeons and that plus terminal missions was more than enough for everyone.
I dont know maybe its just me but i think instances breake the imersion. I like to meet my friends and guildies or even unknown ppl while exploring, hunting, fighting and instances make it harder. The more instances the harder is to meet ppl. I love big open maps, but most MMOs are instanced s i got used to it but i cant say i like becaquse i dont.
Bit of a break for some weeks now (two weeks past, and one more to come) due to work and family visit (aka "vacation" - yeah, right), but still playing. By the end of August I'll see whether I go in for any long-time commitment to the game, my main conern being the speed at which Funcom will add content of different kinds.

I'd be going on a cruise if my vacation happened in the winter.
What?
It's winter in California? Strange, it's summer in Europe, and it's also on the northern hemisphere
(besides, what I've heard so far, winter is not the snowy icy thing in CA, like it is here

Just another straw poll that mirrors XFire's numbers. I still say that any game that has more 50% people quitting in the first 2 months is a bad game.
At 50% that does still leave 350K left though.
Waiting for the next thing

Still playing and still enjoying it. But I have some good friends to play with there.
I know people hate it, love it and just meh it but I am in between love and like.
Just mho.
