1) whether you're a casual MMO player or a "hardcore" MMO player; and
2) how important it is to you to have a world that's not high fantasy to adventure in.
I tick both those boxes - i.e. I'm a casual player, I don't have 12 hours a day to play, and I don't have the time to commit to a Guild. I also love the game world of AoC, I'm sick of high fantasy, of fricken elves and dwarves and all that whole type of mythology. At the same time, having been a CoH addict for 3 years, I'm used to instancing, and the concept of there being no "high end content" and not much crafting doesn't faze me. All I'm interested in is a game that has a good combat feel, that I can log on and play for an hour or two and maybe team up with some people and have a laugh.
So because AoC is a fun game within those criteria, I keep playing. Stuff like high end content is irrelevant to me. The bugs are barely noticeable for me, the game plays very smoothly on my comp and the combat has a visceral feel that I enjoy, and it's set in a non-high fantasy game world that's like a breath of fresh air to me, and highly immersive.
hell no, it was a waste of two months and the money it cost. Only good that came out of it is the new machine i built for it, it should be great for WAR and is wonderful now for DAoC.
When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.

Have Fun with WAR the way it sounds it not going that great over there in WAR Land.

we shall see, but right now ; the 7 year old DAoC runs circles around AoC.

I am still playing (since my son and I are just getting into the meat of the game, lvl 35 atm).
But this is from a thread in my guild forum.
First..... the guild leader on 7/18 started it.
"I Canceled both of my accounts. They dry up on 7/21/08. Didn't really want to pay for another month of it when reality is I don't know how much I well even be spending in it.
Combine that with shit patches that fucked up my necro build every week due to the weekly Necro Class changes. If Funcom pulls thier head out of thier ass with how they are treating thier community and straighten a few things out then I will reup. I still have some faith that the game can be "All-That" for pvp I just don't feel like paying for it till its there." - W
Which of course started an avalanche in just a few hours.
"Agreed...not that I was heavily into it as some. I cancelled a couple of days ago too." - DJ
"I've been thinking about doing the same..." - T
"Canceled a week a go."- H.
"ditto lol" - V
Now of course, maybe 5 people in my guild isn't really an avalanche, but it doesn't bode well for Funcom when people leave in droves like this.
After reading all this, it makes me question my own choice to keep on playing. If my son decides its not for him we'll be calling a hold soon as well.

I am still playing and plan to stay for quite a while, may quit when WAR is released(but will wait a few months after war comes out to see the response). ATM I am very much enjoying myself, and today's update actually had some good fixes/additions for the first time.
Considering the game's been out for a few months already, and this patch is the first in ages that is actually USEFUL and not dreaded... it is a telling example of the quality of patches coming out for AoC.
I really wanted to love this game, jumped alot of hoops to get and play it on opening day. What a disappointment.
erm.. games been out for less then 2 months. Though yesterdays patch did help the game quite a lot.
The game was released on the 20th of May and early start began on May 17th. It's July 19th today. For all intents and purposes, the game has been out for 2 months. As for the latest patch, I'm not sure about how helpful it was. Invisible people, chain stuns and knockbacks, etc.
The population seems to be doing well. I thought I read that the game retained about 500k subs though at the beginning of this month.. which is a little shocking. I canceled about a month ago, but I still have friends on different servers and in large guilds saying the game is still well populated.
By the numbers here a lot of ppl have quit, more than the ones still playing. I sold like crazy at release and there as a lot of ppl unhappy with the game.
I got into the beta and quickly saw that AoC was going to become Age of Anarchy Online, since I had previous experience playing at the release of AO.
AoC released just as I thought it would with lots of bugs and balancing issues -- just like AO. I won't play the game in retail.
However, I believe I can make an upbeat prediction:
~ I believe AoC will require about six months to get it code hammered into shape, and then the game will play better, much better, and some players will return to the game and it probably will have a lifespan like Anarchy Online.
So, if you don't mind playing during the pay-to-play beta period, it will probably be a more solid game in half a year or so.

Last I checked, 2 months *IS* a few months. It can also be used as "several months" if I so choose. *Edit to add* The game caming out May 20, 2008 over here in the USA. It's now about to turn July 20. So, yes, several months HAVE passed since AoC came out. In this case, Math+Calendar = Win.
Oh, and people are reporting even more, new stability issues with the recent patch.

this game will do fine. the core of it is great. they need polish at later levels and to fulfill the promises. its good fun. yes, im still playing.
No, the core is crap unless you consider good graphics and boobs the "core". AoC is a very shallow game with hardly enough content, and crafting is a joke. Their customer service is the worst in the industry and every patch is a nightmare. The game is pathetic.

Have a level 80 Barb and 64 ToS and just can't bear to log in anymore. The revolutionary combat is nothing more than yet again more button mashing. It was my experience at least that, performance wise, the game was better at launch. I don't know what they did to make their lag spikes triple in frequency. As much as I wanted to love this game, there was always that little thing in the back of my mind saying "damnit, just another thing that doesn't work right or wasn't included". 2 months in and stats still aren't working correctly, give me a break. Content is lacking. I don't even think they test their patches and putting up a test live server where you allow the public to play for a week before you implement a new patch hardly gives me any sort of faith in your QA process. At this point I don't think I'll even go back to see if they do fix it.
The 'Simon says' combos really destroyed it for me. It takes a lot of skill to pull off the tough combos in this game, really fast pace and totally fun( sarcasm).
The bugs, performance issues, lagspikes, end game content will all be fixed in the all new ( PR Hype) Expansion coming to a local retailer in early 09!!! for only $39.99 its all yours.

I think a lot of it depends on two factors:
1) whether you're a casual MMO player or a "hardcore" MMO player; and
2) how important it is to you to have a world that's not high fantasy to adventure in.
