It looks like the new info about the new KOTOR game has brought the fanbois and viral marketers out of the woodwork. SOE and its flunkies are running scared and they have us to thank for it. Keep up the good work!
Remember, no matter what they say, that we won and we won big.
Christ they don't quit, now we have 4 of you running your mouths off like you won some contest. You didn't do anything, I demote myself as a vet I refuse to be part of a group who thinks they have some type of power over the events of SWG. Time is running out and SOE screwed themselves, you did nothing but whine and still get nothing out of it.
SOE isn't running scared LA is with SOE, LucasFilms is with Bioware two complete different division I guarantee you SWG will still be running on station pass for many years to come. You lost just face it and you are going to loose again when you find out BioWare won't cater to your terrorist demands. You four should really join Anonymous, you sound just like them.
Does this have implications on SWG? You bet it does, as many of the current players (who are also quite fed up with SOE) are admitting to being ready for a new SW MMO. Which means another major hit to sub numbers.
And truthfully speaking, us using our power as consumers, leaving SWG, and bitching to high-heaven about the NGE has definetly done damage to SOE and SWG as it stands now. There are no doubts about it.
We...WIN! Fortunetly for even NGE fanbois, I'm sure there will be plenty of fun to be had in the new SW MMO and I'd be happy to enjoy it along side any of you.
I dunno, I can actually see an angle here that DOES give credit to the hateful vets for the eventual death of SWG. See...the Bioware MMo is not going to be anything like Pre-CU. Its most likely going to be far more similar to the standard rollercoaster MMO with some wide options to put it in line with the KOTOR series. What that translates into is a situation where players who are merely playing SWG for the IP and the style are going to leave it for Bioware as they will provide a better overall game cut from that cloth.
However, had they simply left the old game alone....the hateful vets would have stuck around, because they liked the sandbox appeal of it. In short by throwing US away to appeal to that crowd...they have completely destroyed any chance at all of surviving this new game. By persisting on not playing galaxies....the vets ensure there are NO players that will be around to pull SOE out of this.
So, no, the vets may not have been the crux behind which the new MMO was made. They would have been the cushion to save SOE from eventual loss when it is made, however.

What you fail to see is that your bitching has done nothing for the state of the game. People aren't playing it en-mass because it is a crappy game. That has nothing to do with how vocal the fans are. SOE has only themselves to blame for this. There may be a few hundred people on this forum that are complete pre-cu "fanbois" (as you like to call the people enjoying the game) or are only trailing you because it is "cool". This is nothing in the wide-eye of things.
The only way and I mean the ONLY way the "Vets" will "win" anything is if SOE releases a pre-cu server. It is inevitable that an MMO shuts down. Hell I could say " WoW is going to shut down! Mark my words!" and when the game does shut down does that mean anything? No it doesn't, everything runs in cycles.

Exactly, and for the record there is now 5 delusional "vets". Looking forward to more jumping on the bandwagon "We win!" "We win!" "Can we go to ChuckieCheeses now?". Reminds me of a childs t-ball game.

I am seriously confused here. What do SWG vets have to do with the fall of the NGE? The Bioware MMO will bring down SWG. And I have a REALLY hard time seeing how you had anything to do with Bioware deciding to make a starwars mmo.
The mass exodus due to the NGE, combined with the tenacity of Star Wars fans who stayed even though they hated the NGE, proved th LA that it was worth persuing another SW MMO with another company.
That's win-win for the fans.
Yeah you really showed them by giving SOE your money every month.

I guess I'm not a very "either/or" type of thinker, which seems to set me apart more often than not.
Did SOE shoot themselves with the NGE? Yes, I believe so. Did customer reviews impact the game's appeal? Yes, I believe this is also true.
Did anyone really win when it comes to SWG? Tbh, I don't think so. This was more of a lose/lose scenario to me. SOE lost money and reputation, customers lost money, community and enjoyment. Very sad really.
Was consumer protest really useless? Well, no I don't think so. We know about refunds for the expansion, we know about some subscription refunds--myself included btw We know about the restoration of camps, creatures and a role for entertainers. Letters sent to Smed specifically asked for these things, and they were given. SOE digs their heals in about classic servers, and about a full subscription refund policy, so it's not a total victory, I'll admit that. However, some good did come of people standing up for themselves and their friends.
Also, I expect that a new StarWars MMO can be win-win for both current and former players of SWG. My friends who play SWG now, still wish things worked better, and still have bad feelings over past treatment. Maybe the new MMO will be a better experience for them, and for us Time will tell.
Is standing up for consumer rights in an MMO the crowning achievement of my life? Lol, no not by a long shot. Still, every little thing you do to make the world a better place counts for something
The responses to my original post have been very predictable...fanbois and viral marketers in denial.
Its funny how the vets think EVERYONE that disagrees with them is a viral marketer or a fanboy. Because we all know anyone that disagrees with their point of view is just not in their right mind...
Oh my here we go. Ok, we all know how many players left SWG when the NGE was dropped. We all know as well how crappy SWG was and is from NOV 15 '05 to it's current state. Did us so called vet's have anything to do with SWG being in the conditiopn it is in right now player wise, yes and no to be sure.
Of course a mass exodus of over 250k people would have a profound affect on any mmo except WOW. The rest of the downfall is all on the way SOE still mismanages the game.
With that being said, i still don't understand why so many people think Bioware is shooting to make a WOW clone in space. First and formost WOW is a 3 yr. old mmo and has now become pretty dated. The same ideas and systems that made it so popular is now become old news.
All these mmo's that have come out as of late have been utter failures because they have tried to copy WOW. Let me say this, you can't out WOW, WOW. Millions of people like the game because it is what it is.
That being said, those same millions are looking for a new approach to mmo gaming. They are tired of the same old hampster on the wheel lvl/class based game.
This is where i personally think LA/Bioware has done their homework and understands the type of gameplay people are looking for. Does that mean a pre-cu copy, nope, or WOW copy, no also. I think whatever they have been working on it's gonna be something so totally left field from what they (Bioware) has ever done.
Take a look at it this way. The Bioware devs said they play and have studied WOW. Does that mean they are in their little cubacle creating this exact WOW clone, of course not. I would imagine devs play and study many other mmo's to look for differant details and lvl of polish.
Let's all remember this. The main devs that worked on UO and the origional SWG is who is developing this new mmo. Both those as we know were major sandbox games. It would be easy to assume that since it is Bioware this game will be nothing more than a single player KOTOR that has online functions. This type of thinking to me is a mistake.
Bioware knows that the winning formula that made KOTOR a success will not work in an mmo setting. This is the reason i believe they hired the devs that they did. It's really a waiting game at this point, but i imagine that Bioware is trying to create something that will surpass WOW not try and follow and copy it.

You make some excellent points here. There is already a pile of WoW clones out there that are under-performing. Do we really need to throw another on that growing pile that is flooding the market? It's going to take something more than copying WoW to even come close to WoW.

I can almost hear Smed copying what you write down word for word for his next board meeting when he explains why they are sunseting SWG .. almost word for word!
"Obi-Wan Kenobi: We were decieved by a lie; we all were. It appears that SOE is behind everything, including the NGE! After the death of CU, the NGE became their new apprentice."

We never doubted that, one way or another, our constant lobbying against SOE for the way it has treated hundreds of thousands of vets, would lead to the demise of NGE SWG. Either SOE will panic and quickly re-introduce pre-CU servers or else Kotor Online will vacuum players away from NGE servers, causing them to wither and die. Either way, it's a victory for the Vet Loyalists!
It's too late for SOE's SWG. There already is a pre cu server. Unfortunatly I can't discuss that on this forum.
This is gonna make for some interesting reading ,in the coming months, for sure. Although it may be wise to leave major cities for a while, if word gets out that not only will the new game be EQ/wow-ish in nature...but that SOE will be retaining rights to their game as well. A few folks may finally lose their already strained grip on reality :P
hehe I dont normally post like words in this subforum of h8 but your post gave me a chuckle

Star Wars fans have won big here , An MMO in the capable hands of Bioware is something I and I'm sure many others look forward to. Hell they are responsible for one of the best SW games to date . However , Most want a pre-cu game Star Wars has nothing to do with that , So I don't know if I'd call this a victory on that front.

i still don't think Bioware has to make a mmo that is a pre-cu clone to make all the vets happy. SWG while it had it's great moments and i loved every bit of it, never ever felt like SW. Honestly the only time it truly felt like SW to me atleast was when i kneeled infront of a shrine and became a jedi.
If the new mmo has a indepth character, clothing and weapon customization. A solid crafting system, big planets and space with lots of exploration and a interdependent social environment, this game will be amazing.

I did indeed. As others showed them by refusing to, all providing the market information necessary to hopefully get what we want in the end.
But really, I was never trying to "show anyone" anything; I'm always having fun. The pursuit of happiness and all that, which I do with gusto. That's the goal and thus far in my wonderful, blessed life that has been achieved.
As always, I seem to be managing to have my cake and eat it too. What a great world.

Shouldn't you wait till KOTOR ONLINE is released before making a BS topic like this, It's amazing to see people life in such small worlds unable to be realistic about matters.
And yeah people like YOU have already WON as we keep seeing these games being dumbed down, kinda your proof to have won.

And what did you win?
You and others have made SWG Vets and Players look like a ton of whiners who get upset over every damn little thing that happens. You haven't changed anything! Go up to the AoC boards and have a look there, kinda looks like the same thing down here... No you haven't won jack, all some of you have done is make things worse for people who do give a damn about MMO's and the MMO they play.
Anyway I'm sure you or swgtester or one of the other upset Vets will come along, flame me, call me a Fanboi and act like your still nailed to some kinda cross.
SOE didnt really care and would ea be much better no one doubted another SW mmo, but i just hope its a good one, i really liked kotor, I just hope it work, this remind anyone else of that ep of southpark when canada goes on strike and they want more money. and after they cost economy millions they agree t call off the strike for coupons?

I am just happy that SOE has nothing to do with the next game.
I would love to a more social based game, but even an EQ clone game wouldn't be to bad if done right.

It's really a waiting game at this point, but i imagine that Bioware is trying to create something that will surpass WOW not try and follow and copy it.
lol you know it! i sense a disturbance in the farce......
You make some excellent points here. There is already a pile of WoW clones out there that are under-performing. Do we really need to throw another on that growing pile that is flooding the market? It's going to take something more than copying WoW to even come close to WoW.
"If you don't take care of your customers somebody else will."
Unfortunatly I can't discuss that on this forum.

hehe I dont normally post like words in this subforum of h8 but your post gave me a chuckle
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
i still don't think Bioware has to make a mmo that is a pre-cu clone to make all the vets happy.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet. Keep up the pressure.
It's never a good sign for a company when the producer/publisher opts to give production rights to the sequal of your game to one of your competitors.
