Uh... have you played any MMOs? Or are you one of those new blood people who assume everything is WoW? If anything Age of Conan should be off your list, cause its just a WoW clone with a new skin.

I agree with that list. I would put Asherons Call in the honorable mentions list  with Eve.

    1)  LotRO.  I admit it's a derivative game, but if you're a Tolkien/LotR fan you should be playing this game.  It trumps every other game I've played when it comes to PVE, lore, and story driven content.  PVP ho's need not apply tho...but very little imbalance because of this.  Great community.  Great developer that listens and releases new content regularly.  mmorpg.com ratings reflect this.  It's user rating is heads and shoulders above all the other games listed.  But for the most part it's ignored because it doesn't have a heavy pvp aspect.

    2)  EVE.  Deep.  Complex.  Daunting...but not for everyone.  I wish it had and exploration options where you could do missions down on planets with an actual avatar.  Man, if it had that...it might be the greatest mmo ever.

    3)  EQ2.  pwned by it's own timing, and underestimating the WoW Addiction.

    4)  SWG.  You know what happened there.  Good -->  bad.

    5) WoW.  In the beginning, great.  Highly polished, easy to market, runs on a fricken 8088.  But...now it's literally earned it's nickname of World of Gearcraft.  It went from a exploration/lore based game, to a fricken gear progression game.  The developers lost their way, but they don't care because they have a captured audience of brainwashed lemmings paying them every month.  Responsible for making mmos mainstream.  This is both good and bad.

Though my list looks a bit different, I like your list and the reasonings behind the listings. Good show.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

    1. Everquest 2 (Community makes this game a winner)

    2. Lord of the Rings Online (quite new to this, but seems very solid, and great vairety of quests/types)

    3. Age of Conan

    4. Final Fantasy Online

    5. Guild Wars

If I had a 6th, it would be Rose online, was a great game for mindless mob bashing :)

    3)Meridian 59

    4) the Realm

    5) Nothing I can think of.

1)---SWG-  By far the most complex (crafting). Best variations of chars, and the best community (for the first year) TILL SOE screwed it up 100%

2)EQ 2-  Took alot from others sucessfull MMO's and tried to make the best of all.  Great crafting, housing was good addtion, and very diverse on chars.   (no pvp i think killed them)

    3) DAOC- Awsome RVR.  The best to date PVP setting possible.  When crafting was introduced was good.  I think with housing, it started to die out.  (they needed to enhance PVP, not other things)

    4) UO- It was teh start of it all.  Had everything new mmo's have to this day.  Crafting/PVP/Housing....   (eq's 1st person look killed it when it came out)   (they should of done UO2 in 3d)

5)City of hero's-  By far the best engine out their-  Movment of chars(speed, XYZ) movement is the best.  Graphincs are decent (in explosions its awsome)  Character versatility is awsome!!!!!!!!!   Problem is that it is a grind fest.  Nothing to work for and see ... IE housing/decent crafting..

Good-  EQ1,AO (bad launch but neat in its own way),Entropia (spelling)  awsome system just costs 10$ for 1 evenings ammo..  (if they did monthly and made drops keep you up it would be sucessfull), DDO- to small.  (it has most infomation of any game, but it was tiny.  No free form run around all instances)

Bad-LOTRO-  sorry just bad (graphics decent but not up to par, dont like the travel/char's progression)  VANGUARD- (could of been awsome/ beautiful/ and some new char types- However the SICK system requirments, internal program problems "mem leaks" killed it)

UGLY- SWG NGE (dont need to explain .. they cut the nuts from it)-  AC2-  (talk about a flop 100% player econ didnt work)... WOW-  (Sorry it was EQ cartoon.  100% was taken from other MMO's)                        .Drum roll.................................................... and the worst game is...................................

CONAN- Stinks.  (exploiters kill it) do the first 20 levels its is one of the best games I have seen.  However once you hit 20, it dies.  It is a grind fest,  No polish, ......  Wasnt ready for relase POST 20....

    sorry being long.....

This is a much easier list to manage mainly because its so much smaller and far fewer candidates

    • Asheron's Call
    • Dark Age of Camelot
    • Lineage 2
    • Ryzom
    • hmmmm

Well I "liked" World of Warcraft but I wouldn't go as far as to say its one of the "best".  Vanguard was fun but it had wayyyy to many issues and was far to incomplete to rank on a "best" list.

Guild Wars is fun, I still play it occasionally to this day from launch but its not really an MMO so.....

  • katriellkatriell Member UncommonPosts: 977

    1. The Saga of Ryzom
    2. Star Wars Galaxies pre-CU/NGE
    3. EVE Online
    4. Myst Online: URU Live
    5. Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted a.k.a. Horizons: Empire of Istaria

    1) Asheron's Call - Darktide was just way too much fun, damn I miss that game.

    2) Dark Age of Camelot - Great classes, fun as hell to play and PvP.  I miss the animist, very challenging, but hardcore and fun and VERY original class!

    3) Ultima Online (Pre-Trammel).  Trammel ruined UO.  Everyone started hiding in the safety of Trammel, and not even offering double rewards, loot, and mining/ wood gathering materials etc would draw all the pussies back to Felucia.  Massive suckage after Trammel was added.  Got much worse with the additions of Samurai's and crap?  Come on.. Ninjas in a fantasy setting!????  LAME!

    4) Age of Conan.  So many of you are throwing this game in the worst 5.  Umm, upgrade your 5 year old POS computer and maybe you'll see why it's a great game that actually runs faster then 3 FPS with crashes, eh?

    5) World of Warcraft - Simply too smooth and polished to not be in the top 5, regardless of it's simplicity and player base, it still deserves the honors of being one of the best mmos ever.  It's still "fun".

    1. DAOC-by far

    2. EQ2- best immersion, although the lore is basket-case material

    3. Shadowbane-point n click sucks, but its true world pvp(and free)

    4. WOW-finally a game without laggy pvp...lacking in other areas though

    5. DDO- for the combat

Extremism in the defense of Liberty is no vice.

Whats funny is I find my opinion will change on MMOs during the eyar but here is my current top 5:

    1. EQ1- Most people have a love/hate relationship with this game but it is still probably the best game out there.......The graphics are subpar by todays standards but the gameplay is still as good as it gets....

    2. WoW- I personnaly dont play anymore and have never played longer than 3 months at a time but it is still the most polished game and Blizzard has really done a great job on it.....

    3. Vanguard- A disaster of a release and almost went bankrupt but is rebounding nicely......

    4. Warhammer- Yeah it isnt released yet but is better than most of the otehr MMOs out there.....Alot can happen before its released that can move it up or down the list.....

      5.  Dont really have a 5th one atm

    1. Dark Age of Camelot (6 years)

2+. Everything else.  Played lots of other mmos, for 3 months at most.  Nothing stuck.

Hopefully WAR will be great.  If not I'll just play on the new Origins daoc server.  Will be on Origins either way.

    1:)CoH

    2:)EQ2

    3:)SWG

    4:)LOTRO

    5:)CoV

The reason I put CoH seperate from CoV is because they are different games. I know NC soft is making it so now you don't have to buy them both seperately and I know they are very similar to each other but they are different. Trust me i was in the beta for CoV and the playstyles, classes, quests, it's all done differently. Its not like I don't like being the bad guy in games, I mean Im evil in EQ2 and imp in SWG, Its just overall CoH is a better game in my opinion.

Now  I have never played EQ but im currently playing EQ2 and loving it. Its a classic MMO and has a well balance of classes. The quests are well done and there is lots of Content.

SWG is an interesting subject because you have people who absolutely hate past NGE and you have people who hate pre CU and CU. Now I have played all of those and pretty much like to say that they are practically different games but since SoE won't put up a pre CU server for those of us who want to play swg pre CU but SWG is getting better, the game isn't bad but it isn't great. It's on its way up though.

I've played LOTRO since closed beta and loved the game but it burned me out. The folks behind LOTRO did a good job and they have a huge world to work with but they just aren't keeping up with the gamers and content.

I ran AoC on full gfx other than a few shadows and lighting and the game did look amazing yes. However graphics dont matter so much that you can include this game into the top 5 lol.

Combat was fun for first day, then it got VERY boring.

Agree, I ran AoC in highest setting and is very nice yes, but the gameplay / bugs is why it is worst 5. Oh, dont forget the patches, they patch hoping to get things fix but instead they break more things. The thing that really pissed me off is they rather fix boob size, polearm length on the back and the level up sound instead of fixing more game breaking issues. WTFBBQ are the people in Failcom think ?

That makes one of my worst 5 I (keyword here) ever played.
