BEST PVE MMO

Me, my wife and my kids all play COH togther are there any other Good PVE games out there. We Don't have the time or skill to invest in playing PVP well. We would love an other game with Lots of 4-5 person PVE Content.

Thanks in advance

You could try Phantasy Star Universe. Good PvE with no PvP. Hard to find group if you dont know where to look but since you got group ready that is not an issue.

You might give FFXI a try. With 4-5 people you wouldn't have to spend so much time looking for groups.

Vanguard is all about PVE,it is alot better now than at launch and has some great quests and a great world to explore the population is still a bit to be desired but if you have nice pc set-ups and you all play together then you could have a great time there.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

If you and your family have good computers (read: good graphics cards) I would really recommend Vanguard.

It's the best PvE game I've played to date with 16 very different classes and a huge world to explore. It also has more depth of gameplay than I've seen in any game to date.

There will be a free trial out in August which would probably be best to wait for before you go buying a few copies for you all to play.

It is solo and raid friendly but the core content and direction is for groups between 3 - 6 people.

I play it with my children but unfortunately my wife is a forum fiend, not a gamer :)

For a well-polished, easy game that fits well with family play, WOW cannot be beat.

For you guys suggesting Vanguard, I think we need to be realistic.  Vanguard is a game that cannot decide what it wants to be (EQ?  WOW?) and has failed miserably in all its incarnations.  I have played Vanguard off and on since Beta2, at launch, and just a month or two ago.

Vanguard is a crappy game and I'd expect the plug to be pulled soon.  For those very, very few who like it, bon appetit.  But to suggest to someone new that it's a good family game is unfair.  The game has 4 servers left and that speaks volumes.

My suggestion to the OP stands; get WOW and you won't be disappointed.

sad thing is WoW is one of the best PvE games.  i'd say LOTRO was a pretty good PvE game, same with FFXI

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

For polish i'd say lotro, loads of polish on it. Good lore, nice art, loads of "fun" quests, best community, most quests / book quests doable under 1 h, and nice graphics.

Vanguard - 10X as complex as COH, my favorite

WoW - Little more complex that COH, good times

    Dungeon Runners - ehhh

Play offline games: Dungeon Siege 2, Neverwinternights 2

FFXI - If you liked COH, you won't like this. I made that mistake already.

I would agree WoW or LOTRO for PvE only, but from someone comes from fast pace combat action in CoH. They might get bored with the slow pace combat in WoW or LOTRO

It will run alright on medium, maybe even high settings. You might want to tone down the resolution a bit though.

Yeah LOTRO is a great choice...you might want to get an extra gig of ram. It's pretty cheap now.

LOTRO is a quiet game and not as intuitive or polished as WOW.  Maybe best to read the reviews.  Consider that LOTRO is based upon the most famous fantasy franchise of all time, yet still is dwarfed by WOW.  Most MMO's have a few hundred thousand players.  WOW has close to 10 million.

Better yet, both games have free trials.  Before buying five boxes of one game, I'd advise you to try both for free.  I have a feeling you and your family will land on WOW, but it's your choice.

Some of the games out there are meant for hard-core players and you really have to dig to see any of the depth they offer.  In other words, you have to really commit to get any pleasure out of some of the titles.  But for WOW, the ease of play and polish and fun factor cannot be beat.  Were I to put my family on one game, there'd be no question.

  • beaverzbeaverz Member Posts: 660

Right so wow's pop is so big just because it is a good game nothing to do with sheep effect. Anyway considering how intuitive lotro is i guess it varies from one person to another.

Considering your hardware, even though it is not an absolute req i strongly advise 2 gigs of ram. The price of ram have gone down so its not too much of a pain to upgrade anymore.

If you like lotr then you will enjoy lotro, if you grew up reading the lotr books this game will be full of lil details that remind you of parts of the book. Some things that are just mentionned in the book are present in the game. And the landscape is quite magnificient, much better than wow. Seeing weathertop or rivendell for the first time feels nice.

Anyway grab the lotro trial and see for yourself, i do not advise you to roll an elf or dwarf as first chars as these race do not start in locations that are too exciting (thorin hall is nice but elf start zone is a refugee camp), wherehas hobbits and men star in the bree/ shire zones which look very good (bree is also one of the busiest towns in the game).

Funny, I absolutely hate the 6 to 10 hobbit area (is that Bree?) and I think that the Dwarven/Elven outpost is the best place to start, but to each his own they say.

Id personally say Lotro I wasnt a great fan of it myself but its better than having your eyes bleeding off WOW's horrible artistic style.

And if your kid's are going to play it alongside you I seriousley wouldnt subject them to the moronic immature community that WOW has from my time in LOTRO trial the communtiy was mature and friendly it just wasnt quite the game for me.

As others have mentioned there are free trial's for both grab them both give them a whirl and experience both first hand.

As for anything on the horizon i cant think of anything coming up soon that might appeal to your family WAR will be PVP only and will have a community akin to WOW Aion will be fairly PVP centric but is where you will find me and Stargate Worlds im still unsure on.

    Seconding FFXI.

  • MeltdownMeltdown Member UncommonPosts: 1,183

WoW or FFXI are my suggestions. FFXI is not very forgiving of mistakes though because you lose experience when you die and can lose levels. WoW is very friendly and I know my Niece and Nephew who are 6 and 14 have played WoW (well their dad's character).  Heck he lets them PvP on his character too (although making your children honor grind must be against some child labor laws LOL).

WOW or LOTR.  COH/COV are pretty good as well for casual small group play.

  • TheocritusTheocritus Member LegendaryPosts: 10,024

Ive played both WoW and LoTRO and if I had to recommend just one to someone Id go with WoW..... LoTRO is fun but only for a short while......I think WOW has alot more to offer in the long run and you may change your mind about PVP once you do the battlegrounds......WoWs PVP is very easy and if you lose its no big deal..... LoTRO has a beautiful world but unless you really really really like doing quests youll get bored with it.....

I have had a lot of fun with family and friends while playing Everquest 2.

If you're looking for a good story, and good PvE that will imerse you, I would check out either Everquest 2 or Lords of the Rings Online.  Both will give more then what you're looking for.
