Can SOE be trusted to make this game great ?

After a horrible experience playing swg, I wonder if I'll get the same sort of customer service from EQ2 ? To date, SWG was my only experience with SOE but it by far was my worst ever. Can I expect the same old crappy customer service, lying, broken promises, bad communication, censoring and deleting posts on their forums, and awful bugs that I enjoyed with SWG ?

Lets see. . .theirs a possibality. They might have to actual work with the custumer for at least a year for when the game comes out.

There should be a whole different team though for another game because its not like SWG just died all the sudden and they move to a new game. EQ2 will be a success though because it has experience. there is already a basic story line and look from the original EQ and its million of expansions. The only reason why there is a EQ2 is because a new player cant just go out and buy 10 expansions in a few days.

Believe in sony as a whole. Not as just a few cranky people getting payed to fix things for a game and dealing with a few crazy people.

Different team made SWG. EQ2 is being made by some of the developers from EQ live and some new people. But just because SWG said SOE on it doesnt make SOE bad... SOE didnt make the game, they just paid for it. If you guys cant understand that than you dont know much about what your talking about. So yes you can trust SOE, i mean... they have other good games... Can you trust CoH cause L2 sucks?

Boy I cant believe how many people think Lucas made SWG. Thats just not true. SOE made the game and continue to develop it daily. All Lucas did was sell SOE the licensing rights and does have some say in things to keep continuity going. Otherwise, Lucas is clean on this. The blame lies squarely on SOE's shoulders. And for those unfamiliar with whats going on, SOE has really been screwing the player base over there. I find it hard to believe its just a bad dev team. I tend to think it goes farther up the rotten apple tree than that.

Either way, the team makes the game not sony. All sony does is publish, the team is charge of gameplay. Every publisher has had a bad game, it should stop you from buying everything they make. EA, NCSoft, Microsoft and other MMORPG publishers have had a bad game or two, did you stop buying from them?

Hmm, not true actually. The main guy Ralph left to pursure other projects for SOE (No idea where he went). He was the genius behind the failed jedi system that will take 2 huge publishes to fix and as of today still is being worked on. Then you have Kevin Q3PO who must have moved on to Politics because he was such a good PR man for SOE (no idea where he is either).

And its not just a few cranky players. By SOE's own admission, 20% of players use their forums. 20% of 400k+ is 80k pissed off players (check their forums)

Its not the dev team Im most concerned with, its SOE's customer service. When it takes them 4 months to fix a problem with my toon, deletes customer service tickets, etc I get concerned Ill see the same garbage for EQ2. I doubt SOE has a separate CSR for just EQ2. Call their customer service #, its for all games not just SWG.

Ah, very true. I can imagine they got buried the first 3 months when things were really bad. Course I guess thats why SOE changed our ticket limit from 3 to 1 for complaints / bugs / issues.

There are very few mmorpgs that have good customer support. If the dev team makes the game pretty bug free, then you dont really need customer support. I haven't needed most of time, becasue I just post my problems on forum boards. If you want worse tech support, play shadowbane or Lineage 2.

I think SOE has talent. Look what they have showed us so far. Of course none of us has actually seen the content. They did make the original Everquest though so at least they have experience.

Hopefully they give it their all and give us something really great. I think we need it. Considering how World War 3 is getting closer. We need to unwind before all hell is unleashed.

Well first off, No one... including myself, siad Lucas arts made SWG... i already knew that... And second, They have different Customer Service for each game... Thats what the GMs and Guides are. And dont judge the company for somthing you might not know about. I will take your word for it once you have steped in the building your self and asked them is going on. The SWG team is probably going through some tough times with the new expansio being released in all.

And ya know, if people like you played my game i wouldnt care about you either.

The team behind EQ2 is VERY commited, look at how well they answer questions on the forums. You can't blame SWG on SOE entirly because Lucas Arts was the overseer of the project to make sure it followed the SW feel... It's there fault for letting SOE do things the way they did.

Well my confidence is even further shaken now. I just bought the starter kit and surprise surprise problems already. How many years is EQ2 been in development and their are issues with a starter disc ???

disc 1 - used to register for your speed boots. I had my system lock up 3 times before I finally was able to successfully register.

disc 2 - used to create your toon. I have yet to get this to work. I get the hourglass but no load of disc. I ve tried 8 times and my system just freezes up.

And before anyone says check drivers..... yes my system is completely up to date. I can play Doom 3 without trouble and that game definitely needs the latest of everything. So if I can play Doom 3, that tells me its not my system... its SOE dumping another crappy product on me. Way to go SOE...Pathetic.

Its not your system?  So the thousands and thousands of other people who the disk is working just fine for got different disks then you?

I realize its frustrating when a new piece of software doesnt work but from the sound of the EQ boards people that are having technical difficulties few and far between.  Every system is unique and there could be many reasons for your problems.  If your drivers (both audio and video) are up to date here are a couple things you could try.

There are spyware/adware programs that can affect apps when they try to run.  You could clean those out with a free internet tool. 

You could try running MSCONFIG and turning off all the auto start items since something in there may be conflicting.

I dont know a great deal about computers but those are things I have had to do with new software before.  Just a couple suggestions.

Its a starter disc... Its not connected to the main game at all. ITS NOT EVEN A GAME! I handled it perfectly. With every product released at least one person will have problems with it. Now i doubt you even went to SOE to seek help so how do you know they suck if you havent asked them to help you yet? Im sure they will. So you are pathetic, not listening to what anyone said to you before... If you hate SOE so much than dont play it, because than i dont have to worry about seeing one more idiot newb in the game... just do us all that favor.

I tried all those tricks and yes others are having problems. I called long distance to california to tech support. after half hr making various attempts I was told there are issues with DirectX 9.0 and possibly a patch would be coming soon. Half hr long distance call, 4 hours attempting my own workarounds and still not working. Man this feels like swg all over again.

You do know that SWG made game of the year in 2003 and at it's 1 year anniversary it had 25 servers up and running at almost max.

Not true lucasarts did quite a lot of the artwork.They however stopped been involved with the development when the game went live handing it all to SoE.Before it went live it was a joint venture.

Though SoE influence was greater with lucasarts sitting back and doing the graphics work with SoE.Reason been lucasarts felt SoE had much more experience in mmorpg and should handle the gameplay.

Originally for instance a lead lucasarts developer was totally against player jedis but backed down with SoE developers input.I guess that was the last i heard of lucasarts been invloved with gameplay.

 Sounds to me that you guys that are whining about the creation starter cd not working need to go upgrade your chitty machines and quit whining on these boards about how its Sony's fault your machine isnt up to par.

 Doom3 is a nice looking game I grant you but you are comparing a game that is aimed for the technology and hardware that we have NOW....and can be ran in full high settings without problems.....and Everquest 2 on the other hand can't be.

 Sure you can run the character creation maybe in full settings...but its going to be a whole new ball game when you top a hill in game to see about a mile of forest and mountains in front of you.

 

 Btw, I have the starter cd's also and they run fine.
