I learned it with hellgate believing the crap those "former blizzard employees" spewed.  Never again will I preorder to try an open beta in this post-wow world. I was hopefull with AoC but avoided it, stating concerns and of course getting stoned by fanboys and in the end was right.  It's always safer to be a realist... hopeful but nontheless a realist.

War >>> WoW if you love PvP.

WoW >>> War if you love grinding and raiding for gear that will be obselete in the next patch.

    Sad but true.

You know, I'm in WotLK beta and it's really fresh, but I'm guessing it will wear out just like classic and bc did.

I myself am really looking forward to WAR, but I just might have this lingering addiction to WoW that draws me back at least for a few weeks or months.

    Playing: Single-player games
Awaiting: Stargate, Star Trek, assuming the burnout has passed
Retired: WoW, BC, LotRO, DDO, CoH/V, EVE, WotLK, WAR

Made that mistake with AoC, I won't make it again. You need to go spend some time playing other games to get an appreciation for WoW.

i wouldn't make threads like this. i got banned for making one on this exact topic. apparently i was trolling, when i was genuinly asking if i should leave WoW for WAR. looks like mmorpg.com has a wowfanboi staff member!

well, the poll that i held on the WoW general discussion forum came out 67% in favour of converting to WAR, based on roughly 150 polled.  Based on that, i actually bought WAR today over Direct2drive :) can't wait for beta on the 7th!!!

I will certainly try Warhammer online, I doubt it will make me cancel my wow account though.

Having played WOW for nearly 3 years I took the decision today to cancel my recurring subscription, delete the majority of my chr$ including some L70's and trash my banks  ,  i plan on making the switch to WAR as a witchhunter as i have become mindlessly bored with the lame pve grind for nothing and lack of open world pvp content in WOW there is only so many times you can do instanced bg's before they just drain your soul with their  monotonous "Ahh rush the boss" attitude,Arena what a stinking pile of turd blizzard should never have introduced arenas they serve only a fraction of the pvp population  but more open plan bg's that could hold 100 or more players of each side , It's far too late to save the pvp population now with the WoTLK tacked on capture the fort game, for those people who can be bothered to mindlessly grind to L80 in order to populate the servers with nothing but death knights i pity you.

     YOU LOSE GAME OVER....

I quit my wow account at the end of season 3 arena, I have acquired gladiator twice, I have raided black temple to the very end, I wasn't active enough in the guild after that to participate in the new area.  Since then I have been trying to find a game that will accomodate my needs.  I am a pvp'er, with interest in pve, AoC was a complete failure, and will not recover.  Warhammer on the other hand, on a complete whim I decided to go pre-order just to try open beta, and somehow got into the preview weekend.  I have to say that Preview weekend provided me with more entertainment than I've had from raiding black temple and doing arenas/bg's than I've had in a very long time.  I will keep my characters inactive, perhaps one day i'll come back and make the pointless grind to level 80, and waste all that time I spent gathering the black temple gear and arena gear once more as I did with the burning crusade.  Unitl then, Warhammer will be my new method of enjoyment.

-- Games are never as fun as their hype. It's still doing the same things as 90% of the MMOs ever since EQ1 wrote the template for 3D MMOs.

-- You can't ever be that newbie again. Not Warhammer, not WoW, not AoC, or any other MMO out there claiming originality.

-- You, I, and many other people won't be satisfied until once again we can be immersed,as newbs once more, into a mysterious realm of which we know nothing.

Im afraid my mmo (DAoC) will die a little more, but Im going to keep my accounts for now and play WAR, I hope for the sake of DAoC, and even possibley WAR, that mythic makes DAoC free with a WAR account...a dream i know.

When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.

You think WAR is going to be any better? Same s**t, different package. I'm not complaining though. MMOs are just mindless fun for me. Something to do on my spare time. In short, it's my hobby.

After playing in closed beta, my answer is no.  I'm not quitting WoW for WAR.  I may buy WAR and play it in addition to WoW but I'm in a strong guild with RL friends and in-game friends and as long as they are round, I will be as well.

I quit wow back in the day because the job I was working wouldn't allow me to group with friends (night shift) or do raid content. I re-sub'd four months ago, and while it was fun getting my rogue to 70, I once again ran into the same problem. Now I work an early shift so go to bed while friends, and most of the server, are raiding.

I made a paly and zoomed him up to 70, but then nothing else changed, still couldn't do "end-game" content, and all I was left with is PvP for epic's, or grinding daily's/mats/rep/blah. It just didn't appeal to me.

So I let my account expire yesterday, still have another 2 month card here but am just going to save it for Wotlk. Way I see it, if I have to grind pvp endlessly, why not do it in a game "designed" for it, that will also give me that joy of exploration that I don't get from WoW anymore. Learning the systems/world/lore/etc. is half the fun of a game, so I may as well give war a try, and I'll either like it, or give wotlk a try when it comes out.

In the end, the amount of time invested in a game should not govern whether you continue playing or not. Myself, I know going in that this is only going to be entertainment for a few months, if it's any good I'll keep playing as long as it's still fun. I prefer it to going to the bar and dropping a bill on one nights entertainment.

To those who say War is going to make Wow lose all these subs i have a suggestion. Delve about 10-20 deep in these forums and look at the Aoc is going to destroy Wow threads.  Where are those people that made those threads now i wonder? ........ probably where you will be in a few weeks time!.

I can tell you that Aoc right now would be worried about WOTLK as they are losing subs and there is a good chance War will too once it is released.

Sorry but War has more to worry about than Wow does when it comes to subs amounts!. I arent't a WOW fanboi either in fact i have unsubscribed just as i just unsubscribed to Aoc.  I do hope War succeeds and i will be there mainly because they will have true Oceanic servers. People who say it will be a WOW killer etc etc are  ignorant though and it really is silly.

Seriously - not one of these boards will know how the WoW subscriptions will fare over the coming 12 months in EU and NA. However, to implicitly state that WoW is immortal as you do above is ludicrous.

The one thing AoC showed the MMO world in general and Blizzard in particular is how desperate a large portion of the player base is to play something new. Will WAR be the game to actually put a dent in the WoW subscription numbers? Who knows.

The thing is that even Blizzard indirectly admitts that they are seeing WoW's great period coming to an end (and as a fact I loved playing WoW for several years): Measures to limit the impact from WAR (Achievemnets, lake Wintergrasp), no real graphical upgrade of the engine in WotLK that they talked about a year ago (ofc based on pure financials - should we spend development resources on WoW or on our next MMO, DiabloIII and SCII?), a pretty cheap introduction movie to WotLK (all the 3d models have been used before) and so many ads on the internet to try to get people to come back to the game (so they feel the attrition already).

I am not saying that WAR will be the product to mark the first reduction in WoW numbers, but on the other hand I would not be surprised if it was (and I am not talking about dethroning - I am talking about declining sub numbers from a very high starting point).

Quit Wow - a few weeks before WotLK (which promises new open world PvP, new PVE content and new phasing adventuring techniques)?

    ---

answer: because it is all the same thing over again?

You don't know that before playing it.

WoW is going even further downhill come WotLK........ there are gonna be a million deathknights runnin around. Finding an instance group is gonna be impossible.

This is such a pain. A Wow player who goes to great length saying he unsubscribed (just to gain credibility).

Of course you will buy WotLK the night it comes out.

Why the shadow boxing? Everyone else - with a healthy mind and openness towards the MMORPG industry - will do.

English isn't my main language, I don't speak it or write it every day, or even every week, but will try to write it the best I can. So before starting I say sory for any miss use in the english language or spelling error, and to all english good writers my respects before hand.

I hate to post, this is my first post here at MMORPG.COM. This post is so long I migth open it as a new trend int he forums. After reading a lot of posts here and in other forums where people hate WoW or mindlessly defend it I feel compelled to say something and will try to deliver my 2 cents on where WoW is today with me and how I perceive other games in the industry.

I gave WoW a break and stopped palying it 3 month ago not because of new games or new games to come on the market. I'm a gamer and enjoy, or try to enjoy many games not just one as a mindless inmature fan.

World of Warcraft (WoW) became, like Ever Quest (EQ), more than a game, a milestone in the computer gaming entertainment industry. On the other hand, Warhammer (WAR) feels and looks like a great game, got to go on the Preview Weeken (PW) and it was an excellent experience. At the moment I still feel disapointed about Age of Conan (AoC) because after leveling to 30 with 3 characters found nothing new, interesting or story developed. I still play AoC, giving it a chance, as I do with most games that come out there.

I started playing WoW because of the story line was similar to the world of Warhammer Fantary Game. Blizzard brought to life a Warhammer line kind of story, with the Warcraft line and with Starcraft brougth Warhammer 40K to our computer in an even much better way than Games Workshop attempted. To use a storyline-oriented-new-creation, is a good thing, Lord of the Rings brought a fantasy world that fueled even Warhammer fantasy world and all others that came. Really love the turn and personality Blizzard gave to this line genere.

In other things, I pitty poeple which don't give other games a chance. I don't understand many of the WoW defenders when they are fierce and loyal to it while Blizzard, like any and all other MMO companies, monthly drain money from us, giving a game to suscribers with the lowest possible effort. Even WAR can and will fall to that.

WoW is one of the best games developed because it changed the way we played. For many it was the first game to play as an MMO, for others it's where many new and real life (RL) Friends met. That is awsome, but please don't get foooled into loyalty by triying to find what other games don't have and yours have, or yours is so good that other games need to copy and are much like the one you love and enjoy.

All great games come to an end, and an MMO's game will came to an end some day.  It will not be because other games are on the market, it's because of what MMO companies do to keep suscribers. Remember Starwars Galaxies and what they did to a great game.

For example, in WoW, after 3 years of playing I found it stupid to go again and again on raiding nights to fight and farm the same bosess over, over, over and over again just to get gear to be able to try, see and win the end game fight of Burning Crusade. Thats why I took a break from WoW 3 months ago, I got tired of being douped into suscription by Blizzard.

Also, I have a family, friends and a life, I can't keep up after my 3 chars reached lvl 70, because, to even maintain 1 character to achieve endegame status, its time consuming  beyond acceptance. I loved to have a day of play, but I also loved to do PvP, quest here and there and of course who dosen't enjoy a raiding night. Problem is WoW stopped delivering a long time ago and Im taking a break from it now. Its better to be able to stop and take some time to do other stuff, or even enjoy other games and then maybe come back to enjoy more stuff that have been acumulating in WoW or wait for an expansion to hit and base itself on the game like Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK).

Well, WoW is and have been great, I will play WotLK but I'll wait until Im done with AoC, and yes AoC is not a keeper for me I'll be done with it like I was with otehr MMO's.

WAR could be a keeper like WoW is. WAR might came to stay like WoW, and don't forget EQ which refuses to go away after all this years, because so many fans of it stay around. I Think WoW, like EQ before it, and the upcoming WAR, came to terms with our gaming hunger. I hope I don't get bored and realize thar WAR tries to keep suscribers by mindless unrelated same questing, like AoC seems, or by being repetitive, like WoW became. For sure, I will play WAR because it felt different, just hope to be right about it.

I hingly recomend WAR to every single one who play WoW; because who ever enjoyed WoW, will notice the good similarities, aka samestuff, and new stuff WAR brings. After all, being familiarized with a game because similarities whith WoW make it more appeling instead of making it lesser. If WoW did something good why re-invent the wheel whe you can make it better, and thats what WAR is doing. And yes WAR is better not because WoW is bad but because its NEW stuff and refined the things that WoW made, while developing an intense and interesting new kind of raiding the Public Quests. I have to say public questing, RvR in a battleground and on open siege, in WAR with my RL and WoW friend was one great and entertaining experience on its PW.

Be a gamer and play games don't be a mindless inmature fan of companies taht at the end are only triying to make money out of us. Enjoy and share their product as any other well made good product you like, but be mindfull of triying new stuff.

I know that not even WotLK will make WoW a new game it might and I sure know will make a more appealing WoW but at the end is their way of triying to keep us on a leash. I will be on the leash maybe later but not fooled enough to go now, as I say before because I'm a gamer and loved WoW as much as other stuff that entertain me I will play WotLK. The difference is that I know MMO's are a comercially oriented industry and love to try what they bring, mindfull of being a fan of the genere and not of a single game in particular. I want great games and development out there on the market, not only one great game holding on to it by mere fanatism.

MMOs are part of the entertaining industry, like sports, TV, Movies, books. ect..., so don't get yourself into a defending-freaky-frenzy, tehy haven't earn it. Gaming is a Hobbie, part of an entertaining way of life but nothing more, its not a religion nor politics or neither an idealism so please stop being mindless about a GAME.

More good games on teh market could make old games better, let Blizzard loose a chunk of their suscribers and I know the next big hit can come from them and it might be on the WoW game we so cherish and enjoy.

Let the gaming industry know that we want new stuff, that we pay suscriptions so they work to give us an entertaining experience worth paying for, not to be douped into suscriptions by promoting us to do the same stuff over and over again.

Whoever say that WoW isn't good is not being true to the gaming experience, but whoever defend WoW and refuses to try new stuff is a mindless inmature blind fan. MMO's are great way of entertaining ourselves, they are so great that we read this page so "be a gamer don't be a fan."
