From what you just said I do think I would like LOTR, Id really like to give it a shot.. can you tell me more about the homestead? it being an instance is fine as long as the house is not an instance.. is it done in a way that you load into a zone where people can place houses? I really like the idea of wearing clothes for the look and having armor that doseant neccesarily show.

Ive been watching videos on WAR and I do think its going to be a really good game.. the fact that they took out the growing tho is extremely dissapointing..

Im about to go look into Mabinogi. One question tho. Is Mabinogi a game you have to pay for or is it free? if you have to pay for it then is there a 14 day free trial? and if there is a trial do you need a credit card to do the trial.

I also have the same question about LOTR, i know its the standard fee (around 15$) and Im sure it requires a credit card, but do you need to sign up with a credit card to play the 14 day free trial? if so I wont be able to play tonight which is what I really want to do.

Mabinogi looks like alot of fun, not something I could play seriously for a long period of time but something me and my gf could enjoy for a couple of months or until WAR comes out, or I can decide if I want to try AoC or LoTR. Thanks for all your help everyone, I appreciate if anyone else has anything to add and ill be continuing to look for more information about all the mmos out there, they make alot of them these days.

You can't really judge community on a game that isn't even out...

Im still going to give AION and WAR a chance but does anyone have any info on DARKFALL?

Im looking at the main page at it looks like everything SWG was plus more, although its been in production for 5 years, what the actual chances of this game making it?

I've been researching Darkfall for a number of years, It's had its up and downs, but for the past few years, most of its development has been kept secret and few footage has given to the public.  It's supposedly going to release this fall, whether this claim is true, I do not mind waiting for this game as it has very good promising aspects, and I'd rather this game take it's sweet time developing a really good game than releasing a half finished game.  Just have patience and wait a month for the game footage they said they would supply in the beginning of september.

In my view though, I think as long as they make the game comprised of their said aspects, the game will be a success.

As for WAR I'll be joining in that bandwagon as well, and I honestly think that game will be a big hit, as for Aion, I'm unsure.  It's a korean produced game and I've had some bad experiences with their developers (L2).

    Good luck.

Community wise I must recommend City of Heroes.

As for player cities, I have no idea. Perhaps Vanguard?

Ive played City of Heroes / Villians and personally didnt find much of a community, but that was when the games first released... but alas either ways I do not enjoy super heroes so even tho it was a fun game I have no intention of going back to CoH/V.

Vanguard as far as I know how no player housing or towns.. unless they have added those since launch, I have thought about going back to vanguard back Im really looking for a sandbox MMO and IMHO DARKFALL looks amazing..

Thanks for the info on DARKFALL im definately going to wait in earnest anticipation for those videos to be released and I to share the opinion that it should take as long as it should take, as long as they fulfill there promises of it being a true sandbox. Im looking forward to delving into the political aspects of DARKFALL and if it turns out to be what theyve said it will be spending a long long time in the world, do you know of any fansites or anywhere I can get more information then the main page? Or would you care to offer up any info you know about DARKFALL that you cannot find on there page.. or any way I could help the game out.

Have you been back to SWG recently?  A community focus is being returned to the game again with the latest additions focusing more on interdependancy rather then independance.  Player cities, housing and the like still exist and haven't really been touched (other then being able to expand your houses).

Im really enjoying Mabinogi right now so im going to stick with it until I get bored, when i do get bored I may go back to vanguard or back to SWG or even try out AoC or LOTR, whatever it takes to hold me off until DARKFALL comes out or WAR whichever first.

Ive got to say tho the one thing in this world Id love to do more then anything would be to play SWG-pre CU, so if you want to type of a detailed overview of what the game has become today I may really give the idea of coming back some serious thought.. I would want to know details tho, and alot of them, I know that may be alot to ask and feel free not to but i was a diehard SWG player and I knew every in and out of the game, everything good and everything bad.. and thats what id like now.. whats good, bad.. fantastic, horrible.. the nitty gritty of the SWG experience today.

Oh and anyone reading this that likes sandbox mmos and is open to the idea of an anime style game mabinogi is a really good game, its something your gf will love too.. mine cant get over how cute the characters are and im in the process of making her some uber-cute robes, definate browny points for playing mabinogi with a girl :D

Still wanna know more about DARKFALL, it looks like SWG but in a fantsy realm and.. well new.. everything SWG was but more, so basically heaven on earth.. or rather heaven in a persistant computer generated world.

The main difference with SWG now compared to back then is that it's now level based and doesn't use the skill tree system for professions as it once did.  Instead, there are now 12 professions which can't be mixed and matched with each other.  Each profession does have it's own expertise trees, which allows you to customise your profession of choice with different skills and abilities.

The housing, player city and freedom of travel aspects of the game have not been changed.  Housing has actually been improved over recent years with the ability now to be able to pack up your house into your datapad and be able to move it without having to empty the house first.  You can also increase the item storage limit of most house structures now too - my Bunker can now store 1300 items compared to the previous 400.

Community wise, things are progessing.  There isn't a central hub like there was Pre-CU (such as what Coronet was) so people tend to be more spread out amoungst the Galaxy.  Having said that, on most servers Mos Eisley and Restuss tend to attract groups of people.  Emphasis is being returned on the crafting portion of the game with new items being made available through the crafters rather then just being pre-made loot items.

The latest update brought a major update for Weaponsmiths that brought back the complexity to weapon crafting, and making them much more desirable then loot/reward weapons.  As I'm sure you're aware, the more emphasis there is on crafters the more community interaction that takes place.

Entertainers are also now a pretty central part of the game again, maybe more so then they were pre-cu.  They now give out quite a diverse range of buffs that pretty much caters to all playstyles in the game .

This is just a brief run down of course...give me an idea of something you're interested in knowing about the game and I'll see what I can do...it's a slow day at work :P
