What "fanbois" are going "nuts"? Obraik starts being a little snippy with you, and that's the conclusion you draw? Maybe Obraik's tired of being treated like crap by you people. "Going nuts"? Wishing something were happening does not make it so.
I think it has more to do with the recent influx of current players posting things like 'Get over it, it's been three years' and 'Shut up, nobody cares' as opposed to the previous influx of 'The game is great and everyone should play it' and 'The game is good again so resubscribe' posts that the previous current player invasions have entailed. The recent invasion seems to be more concerned with being angry than they do with trying to trick folks into trying their horribly unfun game. Obriak, who has been a consistently clam vioce in favor of the game, also seems a bit more on edge since the semi-official revelation that BioWare's MMO is based on Star Wars.
It seems like more than a few folks have seen the end of the road and are lashing out. BioWare's MMO is going to be bad for SWG, and some folks are a bit upset by that fact.
I understand what you're saying, I just am not seeing any "influx." Those voices have always been there.
Ever think that you're noticing them more because you're actively LOOKING for them, since the "fanbois going nuts" was the predicted (and desired) reaction around here once the inevitable Bioware project was made public?
No, I don't look for those voices, except for when there are posts on the OBoard that direct them here. Every time there has been an influx of 'The game is great now' posts, there has been a post on the OBoard that asks how the current players can help save the game. Those posts always mention this forum and mention the poor word of mouth the game currently enjoys. Those threads always include several posts also pointing out that the only way the game will ever attract new players is for the developers to actually make the game fun agian, something they seem very hesitant to do, since they've had almost three years and haven't even tried.
The folks who posted here and told us to shut up and get over it were few and far between (aside from the invasions that coencided with the OBoard posts). This time, there are no new folks claiming the game is fun, it is just you, Gutboy, and Obriak., yet there are several new folks telling the rest of us to shut up and get over it. It might be coincidence, but it doesn''t seem very likely.
If it was the same voices by the same folks, I would agree with you. The most recent voices are the same voices by a brand new group of folks, many of which are using very old accounts that haven't posted here very much.

Heh, my post style has nothing to do with the supposed KOTOR MMO Kobie's explanation is much more accurate...
I think he's just bitter because after all of his SWG defending on this forum he wasn't given the game play senator position.
Me? Nope, I never applied for it I recently started a new job, so I I'd rather focus on getting established with that for now - and being able to come home from work and just enjoy the game.
Hey all, We've got DevH working on what I assume is some form of Cross-Server instancing and improvments to the paid character transfer service to support more items so that should help with this issue.
I would have thought that AoC's heavy use of instancing was what turned a lot of people of it, and now it's a solution to low pop servers in SWG?
And secondly I find it absolutely insulting that the other solution is for me to pay for a service, that should be complimentory IMO, because SoE cannot find a solution themselves!
If this is the best solution SoE can offer then this is really quite sad IMO.
Well they expected us to fork over 20 bucks a month to beta test the CU...and later the NGE, so it's just par for the course.
Geez - reading the mean, antisocial responses to a simple comment makes me even happier I don't play SWG anymore.
In all honesty that is another of the reasons that I don't return. It's definitely not all current players, as I've said, some of my friends still play, and they're just about the nicest people you could ever meet. They still run a guild on Ahazi. Just amazing people. We share a guild forum too, where we get honest and respectful updates about the game, and have a friendly dialogue. Unfortunately, many of the outspoken SOE defenders are extremely hostile and derogatory in my experience. These seem to be the people that most often tell me how and why I should return to the game, and how much of a whining idiot I am if I don't. Really, that's not very inviting.
I have to say, I was a little shocked when I read the Sony board. Back when I played, I remember most of the posts similar to the ones I read were pulled almost as soon as they went up.
Yeah, they actually encourage nasty behavior over there. If someone posts a complaint, they will allow ten pages of attacks against that person. "can I have your stuff?" "shut up whiner" "CMN" and other personal attacks are not only allowed, they are encouraged.
Dare breathe a word in response to such attacks and you are threatened or banned. Thus, the official SWG boards have become the nastiest, most vicious, most downright inhospitable place on the internet, other than the Huffington Post, of course.
It is one more reason no one wants to play that game.
Amen to that. A wretched hive of scum and villainy.
heh. The interesting things is that the other wretched hive of scum and villainy got that way due to lawlessness. The SWG Official Boards are the way they are not because of lawlessness, but because of the way the laws are enforced due to the corruption of the enforcers.

How have you been treated like crap? People have questioned whether or not you're employed by SOe to shill SWG, primarily based on the fact that you hardly ever seem acknowledge any of the glaring flaws with the game. The only time you do acknowledge the flaws is when one of the developers do when promising to fix said flaw. You go from defending how wonderful feature X is, until feature X is altered, then you begin claiming feature X needed to be changed to make the game better.
You've been doing the same dance since you began posting here. Everything that has been done to the game is the greatest thing ever and the in game population has been growing all the time. If you were at all honest about the game, the subscriber numbers for SWG would easily rival WoW. Is there anything the developers could do to make you unhappy with the game? From your previous posts, they could turn it into 'Barbie' Dreamhouse Online' and you'd come up with reasons why the change was good and that the player population is growing all the time.

It is especially strange since his posts haven't changed in tone since he began posting here. The CU was the greatest thing ever to happen to the game, and then the NGE was the greatest thing to ever happen to the game. It does seem strange that he has only recently decided to take a more shrill tone after the BioWare MMO's IP was leaked.
The only thing that has changed is that the tone of the SWG forums here have been a bit more positive with the fact that there is a new Star Wars MMO in the works. The negativity towards the current game is the same as it has been since I've posted on these forums, which is understandable, since it is still horrible and unfun.

I didn't say completely accurate I wouldn't say I'm "tired of being treated like crap" because if I felt that way I'd probably stop posting here altogether. It's more that I'm growing tired of the same old arguments happening on these forums every day for the last 3+ years.
Of course, if you'd like to come up with some conspiracy theory instead (it is this forums speciality, afterall ), then I obviously can't stop you... I suppose it could be ammusing though.

The game is worse than it was 3+ years ago, and it is still as bad is it was almost three years ago. Since nothing has been done to make the core game fun, why whould the fact that the same arguments against the game are still being used tire you? All of those arguments are still valid, so people are still going to use them to explain why the game is still a horrible mess.

The conspiracy theory I refer to would be the assumption that this is all due to the talk of a KOTOR MMO.

I don't mean to sound patronizing Obraik but as I've said before eventually everyone becomes "disgruntled". There are a lot of things that are working against SWG right now - including (and most importantly) the Bioware MMO.
You put a lot of effort into promoting this game and helping others enjoy that experience, so it's only natural that you'd feel frustrated when you're almost powerless against these influences that are beyond your control. I can understand that as that is what I think a lot of people felt when they were confronted with the NGE in the first place.
Honestly I hope to see you put that same effort into Bioware's MMO, assuming that you'll join it to.

Players on many servers have been reporting a significant increase in new and returning players with the last few chapters and updates drawing in more and more people.
I play on high, medium and low population servers and have seen this myself, hopefully this is a trend that will continue.
It would seem that Obraik doesn't have anything to worry about.

Then why has his tone changed? If you read the actual thread, you would see that your statement doesn't address what he was dodging.
Again, if more and more people were joining every day, and everything was wonderful, why would he be suddenly sick of the way people treat him around here? One would think that if all was well, he'd be more confident, and thus, less shrill.
Personally, I have noticed nothing of the sort. I noticed the usual summer bump at the beginning of the summer, and that's died off now.
Hey all, On server transfers, I think that free transfers will just cause more problems for servers with low population as there will always be people that don't want to move, that means full mergers would be needed as in the case of the Japanese Server mergers and that really didn't go very well, very few Japanese players took the option to transfer, they just stopped playing. We've got DevH working on what I assume is some form of Cross-Server instancing and improvments to the paid character transfer service to support more items so that should help with this issue.
I don't think I ever alluded to the fact that I thought the enhanced player search tool would completely solve this issue, I initially pushed for it to encourage grouping for experience gain, I have heard from players that have found it very useful and have used it myself on low population servers to set up full groups for experience gain and to find guilds to join, so it can be useful in that regard. The fight against unattended play continues, we've got some fixes coming up to discourage AFKing and I've been spreading the word on some Simple solutions for unattended macroing.
For Suvroc, I was appointed as the Pistoleer Correspondent in the Combat Upgrade and spent three years as an SWG community leader, I was very happy to be replaced as Game Play Senator by MasterCosmo who will be excellent for the job. I asked Valara, the Community manager, to return me to normal player status, I was made a Blue Glowie after they removed my Pistoleer profession with the NGE and it has bad memories associated with that forum title. I still continue to push for better Game Play in SWG but without the ties to the Senate I can speak more freely which is very useful. Over the years I've built up a lot of influence and communication links that I can use to help players get their bugs and issues resolved and I'll still be using them. Smuggler does indeed rock now, credit there goes to the Smuggler Community and Hanse for hooking up some cool new abilities, most of what I did for Smuggler was earlier on, after the NGE when it was a really broken profession. Sookster54, Smuggler excels in bypassing defensive combat rolls like block by using skills such as Off the Cuff, False Hope and Pistol Whip which all give the target zero chance of rolling anything defensive. And to ArcAngel3, Smuggler is the profession that requires the most timing and tactics of all professions in SWG, it's a lot of fun to play. Hope that addresses some of your questions, let me know if there is anything I can help with.
I should not have to pay to remove myself from Kauri to have the same playing experience as someone who was lucky enough to choose a server that still has a somewhat reasonable playing population.
You're right, hopefully the population of Kauri can be rebuilt, if all else fails and DevH's secret project doesn't help then I'll be asking for free mergers too.
Anyone know how long he's been a correspondent/senator, and when exactly he left the senate?
He was replaced a couple of weeks back by the old Commando Senator, MasterCosmos. Badger's term was up and the powers-that-be chose not to let him continue with another term, although he explicitly made it clear that he wanted to. While the position of Senator is made up mostly of Yes-Men eager to spout the company line, Badger's position as senator was essentially self-serving and allowed him to push his own agenda over all others. $OE was wise to dump this chump.
I found it interesting that within the last month Obraik's tone seems to have changed as well. He seems much more "bitter" towards vets these days.
I can't help but wonder if it is related to Badger no longer being a senator as they seemed to be quite friendly towards on another.
I'd say maybe just maybe realization has struck him lol

please prey tell how this will be done
It could have been done, over the past few years, had the DEVs practiced the fine old art of repentance, and actually changed their ways. Had they practiced the art of honesty, and showed players that they valued them as customers and cared about their past efforts, and didn't keep changing the whole game on people every few months, and didn't coninually nerf gameplay in an attempt to solve perceived problems, they WOULD have built up population.
Now, it's way too late for that. They have proven time and again they have learned nothing from the debacle of the NGE. I doubt they even want to admit or realzie what they did that was wrong. Pity, They had a chance to turn this around and they blew it.

The problem SOE have always had is their retention rate on the dev team, the original beta devs were let go too easily, the pre-cu devs all packed up and shipped out and it's a cycle that hasn't really relented all the way through the games existence. The devs that have worked on the game throughout it's lifespan probably have learned a lesson or two, the problem is they don't stick around long enough to put those lessons into practice and before you know it, you've got a fresh dev team that have to learn the same lessons over again, making the same mistakes as the last lot. Blix is probably one of the longest serving members left and he was little more than a bit part player in the CU as I recall. Also factor in the scaling down of the dev team over time and you've got a nice mix for continued fuck ups. Natural attrition of staff is something all companies have to face but it seems worse at SOE and they compound the problem by shifting people to other projects as well. Fine example of that is Pex, that guy was much loved by the SWG community both past and present and they move him to their new freebie kiddie focused mmo, mismanagement par excellence.

It is very interesting that you should so suddenly get tired of people 'treating you like crap' just after the KotOR story. Up until now, it didn't bother you at all. Hmmmmm.

Lol, no matter what I say, you're going to argue about it in some way. So, lets satisfy your ego and you can go around thinking whatever you want to think

Also, do you know what a conspiracy theory is? Obviously not, judging from your use of the term.
Lol, no matter what I say, you're going to argue about it in some way. So, lets satisfy your ego and you can go around thinking whatever you want to think
and, in the end, you are, as usual, left with nothing but a personal attack. A mild one to be sure, but you still haven't actually answered anything I have asked.

You're right, hopefully the population of Kauri can be rebuilt, if all else fails and DevH's secret project doesn't help then I'll be asking for free mergers too.
please prey tell how this will be done
