Again, what a fanboi spinoff lol. Learn to comprehend what you read. Server Fury has reached its player capacity, no new characters can be created on this server. So, since launch, the amount of toons created on this server is X (we don't know). Considering the fact the Funcom will not delete characters of those players who have already left, this news means *nothing* with BIG BOLD letters. It has zero information about the number of subscribers, for instance... Nice try tho! DB
Wow. AmazingAvery seems really desperate to prove this dying game is not dying. It doesn't matter how many times you say the world is flat, it still is not flat.
I can't believe he is made correspondent and this is the way he spends his mandate?? Like a kid's post: "haha I told you". And on top of that he spreads lies and misinformation, knowing how things are. And old graphs.
Fury server is full is an artificial thing that can be tampered with. Plus you have to take into account that Fury was the first server released in EA before the rest. Shouldn't a triple A mmo have more full servers? And aren't people going to the most popular server often?
So AmazingAvery - tell us why you want to spread Funcom propaganda! Why? You do it in post after post after post. You are now not just the number one fanboy, but also correspondent. How far will you take this? Defending a company that misleads and lies to its customer base. Are you proud of yourself? Looked in the mirror lately?
Oh heh they made Avery a correspondent I never noticed that, but I tend to tune out BS artists. Huh, maybe I shouldn't have poo pooed the conspiracy theorists.
A site like MMORPG.com should try to get impartial correspondents. Avery has always been anything but impartial and that should have been very very obvious from as far back as over a year ago. Very poor choice guys, seriously. Avery is an OK guy but he is someone who essentially runs a fan site not a correspondent for a site that gives reviews and hopefully honest information.
Heh maybe what MMORPG.com should do instead is make Avery their official AoC advocate and pick someone else to be the official AoC prosecutor and make it like a court room. Isn't that what these forums basically become anyway? Just make it official.

That 700k was around launch , by now it's probably in between 150k-350k active subs .Which is still in terms of MMO retention, considered a success . As long as they hold between 150k-200k they will be fine , And AOC will keep putting along.
As for the topic in hand , SWG was never considered a huge success ,Considering it had a huge I.P. backing it up .You can kinda say the same for AOC , and LOTOR . They both have a core group of fans to pool from , yet seem to not only fail at capturing them , But they also fail at garnering many from the overall pool of MMO enthusiats.SWG had servers with large populations , even with a believed to be failed product(Their own words).I'm sure LOTOR does as well , It's nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm in agreement with the 150-200k number. I do however believe a lot of people who are paying the monthly fee simply aren't playing the game. I know guilds of 60+ people just waiting to see what the PvP update will bring but are playing other games in the meantime.

I play on a low-mid server in WOW ( Fenris). Last night my server had appx 4000 people on. ( I say appx because I can only count the horde faction directly). The max for wow is probably 6k.
My server is probably about the 25th percentile as far as population, and WOW is nearing it's 'slowest' time ( the few months leading up to an expansion), and yet my server is fuller than the best AoC server.
I am beginning to think AoC is closer to 150k subscribers than most people want to admit.
What do I think? I think that was more than a month ago.
Wow, good point.
"The polling was done between July the 1st and July the 3rd, 2008"
I'd be interested in seeing current numbers.
The server reached its max yesterday, and is increasing next week. The poll was done a month ago yes, but was only one I could recently find. Was looking for how popular Fury Server was in the past for comparison.

I'm sorry to shoot down your amazing news. However, more than likely, what this really means is that they have lowered the server max for Fury and likely other servers. If the server is just now showing max players would it not make sense that it should have displayed max during release when the servers were under heavy load? As it actually was that way, that both Fury and Wildsoul reached their maximum and creating players on those servers was periodically unabled.
Does that change the outcome, the meaning, on the other things you say in this post? If you want to dispute that then have a look at the graph you posted. This information is now over a month old and I don't think anyone here will deny that servers have fewer players than they did a month ago. This leads to the conclusion that the server max has been lowered.

There is a good site for numbers on wow servers. So your numbers are pretty far off on the number of people playing on wow servers. The entire server both alliance and horde are normally around 3k players at peak and I think the average is closer to 2k. Anyway you can play with the graphs from the link below and look at all servers etc.

And even the comment is exactly the same. Proof here that an AoC correspondent is indeed not telling the truth.
Hah! I didn't notice the date or comment. Crazy. Does that mean Pasanda, a staff member for Age of Conan on IGN is Avery? Maybe I took my tin foil hat off way too soon.
Judging from the research conducted by one subscriber below we can only guess as to the other populations with the high that Fury is at now. Does that mean Fury got popular all of a sudden? Or it just has a cooler name? Or was it because it's a PvP server?
The data in this graph has been polled by creating a character in each european server of Age of Conan, reaching level 5 to access the search player function and doing a search for players of levels 1-80. The pages have been counted and multiplied by 50 (there are 50 characters per page in the list) and then the characters on the last pages have been manually counted and added to the total.
The polling was done between July the 1st and July the 3rd, 2008, in a timeframe included between 6.30 PM and 9 PM CET.
Of course the statistical value of this graph is debatable, but should give a pretty good idea of the number of characters logged in each server during primetime, to identify which servers have an high population and which turned into ghost towns. Gathering more solid data is difficult due to the extremely small limit of characters available on each account and the fact that getting to level 5 to access player search takes at least 15 minutes.

I don't think he is a developer or paid employee of funcom.
He has already stated though that he had very early access because he is personal friends of the devs. He has had dinner and partied with the devs and speaks to them regularly.
I don't think we need to do a conspiracy theory thing here, he has basically told us the truth which explains why he defends his friends so much.

The "Fury" server was nominated as a Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark + Finland) server. Most of these people are most alike and favour to play with each other. There is 3 grand EU country (Franc, Germany and England) and they normal get there own server. However Scandinavia is always left out. Therefore at launch it was scream out on many different webforums that "Fure" server was the main choice for us. So its no wonder for me that this is the first server full as 3-4 country pop flock to this server.
On a sidenote its important that Fury reached full status on the initial launch in just a few hours (For making new character, I always make 5-6 charcter when I started to reserve names). Fury is like the Magtheridon version (In WoW terms), all the hardcore play here. Of cause we lost our shares of players, but many players from other ghost server have rerolled a new toon here, for obvious reasons .
Again, what a fanboi spinoff lol. Learn to comprehend what you read. Server Fury has reached its player capacity, no new characters can be created on this server. Furthermore, it only proves that developers used bad logic with this system. Why make a hard limit on the amount of characters created per server? Its stupid. If there is a fixed limit of characters per account, and a fixed limit on the number of characters simultaneously logged in, then there is absolutely no reason to have a limit on characters created. After all, they DO want new customers, right? And how would new customers play the game if the server doesnt allow them to make new chars?
From logical point of view, it makes no sense to block new chars if the server is filled with a bunch of in-active chars. It only takes few bytes (maybe KBs) to hold a record of a character in the DB.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
The bona fide fanboy on these boards copy/pasting another post on another board from over a month ago. Obviously he's trying to pass it off as a recent occurrence as he made no clarifications to the date of the post hoping nobody would notice it when they click on the link he provided.
Disappointing. I always thought people would put more effort into their last ditch efforts.
If the Fury server was "full" as a result of to many active players logging in then the only logical result would be to split the server into two.
If the Fury server reached maximum number of accounts with characters on that server, but not reached peak activity, then allowing more accounts to create characters is a viable option. It doesn't stress the server any more to allow potential players to log on.
For some reason I always get a bad taste in my mouth after reading Funcom press releases.
Avery did a good job before launch of providing us all the information about the game that we didn't want to bother searching for. After launch he has just been a plethera of PR, fanboism, and ridiculous faith in AoC.
This latest PR Statement is a joke. It shows a chart from over a month ago.
AoC isn't an aweful game by any means, it's OK, but it lacks sustainability. I really don't believe that 100,000 people actively play this game. I think it's between 50,000-75,000. They released a product that was nowhere near ready and paid the price.
No amount of spin that Avery tries to pull can change that.
How can the server be full. Im a Fury player and we have diminished from 7-8 instances to 3 now. Ok its has more of a player base than the majority of servers. but in no way is it full.
Well there are 70 extra free spaces on the server now as the guild i was in (Anathema) have all just left. Guild that has been building for AoC for a year, one of the top three on Fury, all gone =]. And we were not the first to leave, and talking to many other guild leaders we certainly will not be the last.
Nice attempt at PR spin though Avery. Like to comment why your posting something from a month ago.? I thought not....
Testlive Servers show as Medium Load ALL THE TIME.
Live Servers show as Medium Load ALL THE TIME.
Its absolutely guaranteed that Testlive does not have medium load on either server, yet they tell you they are at medium load. It is unreliable at best, and unless they release some numbers on what server capacity actually is, it will continue to mean less than nothing.
Rock a FailCom avatar now and express your disgust with pride!
