I came to the conclusion 3 games ago that mmorpg is not an independent unbiased game information resource.

Much like everything else these days he with the biggest wallet writes the rules.. or in this case the reviews.

Absolutely everything mmorpg staff based is bought and paid for by the marketing departments of  these game companies.

Post a negative comment about a game that has been paid for and expect a lock, warning, or even a ban.

Sadly this has become the rule not the exception, I remember way back MMORPG use to accurately and fairly review and rate games based on the truth.

If you're going to be a broken record, please at least try repeating something truthful.

Post a negative comment about a game that has been paid for and expect a lock, warning, or even a ban.

    OK here goes.

The following games are totaly pieces of garbage that only fools would play:

WoW - Looks like the art was designed by a 12 year old with a box of cranyons.

LOTRO - Has PVP play balanced roughly equivalent to a Mike Tyson vs Tonya Harding boxing match

Age of Conan - had so many bugs at release that it felt like we were in ancient Egypt being taught lessons by Yaweh.

Alright, lets see how long it takes until I get my warning and this idiotic thread gets locked.

    Edit: typo.

Avery is a fan of the game. He is also someone close to the dev/company reps. Nothing wrong with that, and it is public knowledge. He has not posted information that was 'wrong', so to speak. He has posted information from questionable sources, but it has been corrected by others in the forum. Me? I'd love to go to parties and such with developers. As a game correspondent, it allows him to do what it's supposed to do. Let him talk about a game that he enjoys. If any information is wrong or misleading, then it is up to us to correct it. I haven't seen any problems with that, except where people cross the line into personal attacks, which yours are getting close to already.  Just take a deep breath, step back and then look at this from a  more logical standpoint.
We are here to talk about Age of Conan and its issues. Not Funcom or Blizzard or what else have you. People post a lot of things here and you have to remember there are two sides to every coin. People getting banned for buying from gold sellers? Remember the issues in WoW where people were getting banned for exactly the same thing? Not only that, people who traded with someone who bought from gold sellers were also banned. It's nothing new, much as people may like to think that it is. EQ has done it, as has EQ2.
In response to Gestalt - I agree with the assessment. I am in favor of getting rid of it as it doesn't serve much purpose. If you're going to have correspondents, then make them responsible for all of  the games, rather than just one. Otherwise, they are simply advocates/opponents and serve no purpose beyond being recognized by MMORPG as someone with more than a basic writing ability. With the vagueness of what they are, it simply looks as if they are official MMORPG representatives.

I have no clue if he is an employee or not. Do I think they should look into the matter? Yes. I've been completely civil about the whole thing.

The proof is in the thread. The thread was not on the front page because the last post was July first. I don't enjoy being lied to. Not to mention the other links and his response towards them.

How soon before gamers start getting censored like on the official AOC forums in the US and the EU - and why is this bombardment of Funcom PR even here?
I thought this was a forum for gamers, not a company's billboard for damage-controlling bad press about its game.

Well in the end theyre only making things even worse (if that's possible).  The constant poor decision making on behalf of Funcom and its volunteer fans is going to kill this game.  Before I thought AoC would just become a low sub game.. but this is a recipe for shutdown.

That being said, AoC ads amounted to a very small % of revenues in recent months.  We acccept advertising from almost every major MMO publisher out there (CCP, FunCom, NCsoft, Mythic, SOE, IGG, Aeria Games, and countless others) - if we took "bribe money" from these companies you wouldn't be able to say anything bad about any game on MMORPG.com - and I think anyone that knows these forums knows that is far from the case - we are pretty darn liberal around here with what we allow...as long as you a) back up your bashes about a game with a reason b) don't de-rail someone elses topic just to spout anger and hate and most importantly c) refrain from isulting others
So if you say "Age of Conan is a terrible game because x, y and z" that is ok with us.  However if you say "man, userBob you are an idiot and AoC sucks because x, y and z" you will get banned and your post deleted for calling userBob an idiot.  Unfortunately when the later scenario happens users jump to the "you are in company xxx's pocket!" conspiracy conclusion instead of the truth, which is you broke our rules...plain and simple.
The reason users brew up conspiracies like this is quite simple - because a company like FunCom or MMORPG.com or whoever we are being accused of scheming with each week is not capable of proving otherwise.  How could we prove we did *not* have a secret meeting with forum mods or how could we prove we did *not*  take a bribe for $10,000.  Evidence does not exist for non-events...it is the backbone of conspiracy theories everywhere...not just at MMORPG.com.  What I can tell you is that in order for us to scheme like this most of this team would have to be "in on it" - and many of these people come and go in weeks, months or years.  In the 5+ years we have been running this website I think at least one of these dozens of helpers would have ratted out our evil ways to someone.
I'm sure for the hard core tin foil hat folks this message will fall on deaf ears, but I take a lot of pride in this website and the team of great people that make it all possible, and feel compelled to state the above as I see it here all the time.

Are they so why i got banned twice here, when i was just telling some truth about AOC?

There is an appeals process here for bans.  If you feel you have been wrongly banned based on the explaination given to you in the ban email and based on our rules (yes, please read all of our rules before appealing) then contact community@mmorpg.com - if you don't feel this resulted in a fair explanation or resolution then by all means contact me at admin@mmorpg.com and I will review your appeal.  I can tell you though that 95%+ of the time it ends up being that you broke a written rule when posting and your ban/post was for attacking a person or doing something else extreme, and not bashing a game.  I mean just look around - how many posts are on our forums that are negative about games?  Like, most of them? LOL

And if you were banned twice, that is more than likely because you are not following the rules and taking anger out on other members, not just AoC.  I don't care if you hate and bash AoC, honestly I really, really don't.  Bash one of my community members and I want you banned for it.  Games don't have feelings or know when you talk bad about them, people do.

my attack to that person was calling him fanboi, if you check my post history its there. so you guys better ban evryone that use fanboi word.

Well, as long as they don't seep over into the WAR forum I could care less.

Though, it would provide for some very entertaining reads while I visit these forums.

this post does not really exist. it does not use capital lettering because it does not exist. all the english teachers of the forum cannot make any comments due to grammical errors because this post doest not exist. this post is not just fun with words and really is not true because it does not exist. we do not exist because this does not exist...wow time to take off my tinfoil hat...

several times now i get posts deleted in which i make sarcastic comments towards people i have some serious convictions about being shills. i just call it like i see it by telling them what i think. doesnt take long for my posts to go on vacation. then either warnings or a temp ban. the posts i would quote would also get deleted as they were very blatant shill posts that anyone could see.  i even called mmorpg.com on this last year and had the admin here tell me im wearing a tinfoil hat...well sure enough they are doing this again. get some nice ad $$ as long as they take care of things that pose a threat. funcom is a publicly traded company. meaning they have alot to lose if everything goes completely south.

the main goal right now is to stay alive at any costs. so if sending extra dollars in the name of good advertising then why not. there have been some very serious lieing going  on and if any cannot see that well its quite obvious they cannot even read this post cause if they could read this post then they should have no problen reading in between the lines.

now i will admit mmorpg.com does in fact have the best forum on the internet for allow aggressive content but when it comes to the old might $$$ then we really dont matter.

and like the admin post below me here this is almost they same thing he said to me. also had some type of attack to finalize his ridicule of me for the public to see. just so people would not  believe a word.if you call something a conspiracy theory even when its quite obvious that theory is 100% true, then anyone who believes it will be ridiculed for believing so. so they are then almost forced subconciously to choose to believe it couldnt be true just for the fact they dont want to look like the fools with the tin foil hat. fact is this is how it has been done through out history. its human nature to be lead like sheep. now if you look at what is quite obvious and happens time and time again. big corp after big corp, you will start to see a pattern that reveals itself.

manipulation is a tool when it comes to businesses and corps. what ever way works is all that matters. we are the common denominator here. so even when someone working for a shady company that is acting sincere then you can really see where the manipulation  shines. just look at things from both sides and balance it out yourself when it comes to the real truth. once you your subconcious realizes that you are allowed to decide for yourself then you will see what is true and what is a lie.

We do ban everyone who calls someone else a fanboi.  Note that it must be directed at an individual - not just a general statement.  For example: "Oh man, fanbois drive me nuts!" is ok.  Now take "Oh man, fanbois like YOU drive me nuts!" will get you a warning or ban if you tend to do this often.

Does every post like this get caught?  Probably not.  Our moderators don't read all the posts - we rely heavily on the users to report innaproprate posts.  And generally the user being insulted will report it - and generally that means they felt insulted by the comment.  If you insult a user with thicker skin it may not get reported and you will likely get away with it - but just know that you do it at your own risk.

I speed in my car sometimes and get away with it 95% of the time too - but I am well aware that I might very well get busted and I can assure you that you won't see my telling the officer that he is part of a big $$ conspiracy and that it is all a big sham constructed by "the man" - no, I realize they are doing their jobs and I took that risk and now must pay the piper.  Such is life.

I think you guys might want to reconsider your policy on banning people for using 'fanboy' because it basically means that a person is obsessed with an element of video game or electronic culture. Unless saying "man, you're so obsessed with <insert game>, it drives me nuts." is a bannable offense.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanboy

Fanboy (sometimes spelled fanboi) is a term used to describe an individual who is devoted to a single subject in an emotional or fanatical manner, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession.

The term is most commonly associated with adolescent and teenage males but can be applicable to any age or sex, and is mostly applied by others as a derogatory label.

With proper wording, anything can be applied as a derogatory label. Saying that someone is obsessed with something is sort of derogatory, depending on how you word it.

So, again, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Edit: I mean, think about it.

Saying: "You're such a fanboy" will get you banned.

    But

Saying: "You're so obsessed" will not?

I'd consider "Fanboy" about as harsh an insult as "dummy", maybe less.

I appreciate your responses Admin, and you have made me feel better as to the relationship between MMORPG and the companies. Plus, I like that you stick to your guns with them and with us, the posters.

I still think it' reflects badly on the site to have Avery with a CG title, but I feel better that you say it isn't corporate influence.

I have a hard time believing your bannable offences. If it was truly thoes simple rules over half of your members should be banned for calling people Trolls.

It's also intent behind the words. Saying someone is obsessed with the game has a different connotation than, soandso is such a fanboi. You're marginalizing the person by calling them a fanboi.

Trying to put this in terms that people will understand without being banned or getting the thread locked. Insulting someone is not allowed. Questioning the words, the argument, or the ideas is acceptable. Questioning the person behind the words is not. It can  be argued that calling someone a fanboi is the same as using racially charged words, because the intent is to insult the person directly in a way that they know, in no uncertain terms, that they are being insulted personally.

Then calling someone a 'troll' should be a bannable offense too, right? It's used as an insult.

I wonder how many people got banned for calling someone else a troll...

You could argue that but it would be easy to disprove.  Being a fanboi is actually about what they say about a game.

I don't consider Fanboy an insult.  But either way it is a statement about someone's statements and behavior.  Essentially calling them unreasonable and or unrealistic.

The word fan itself comes from fanatic.  Fanboy is just a dimunitive form that goes back to the original meaning.  And if someone is acting like a fanatic it is not out of bounds to say so.

I am sorry but being prevented from calling a spade a spade is rather chilling IMO.  Some people are fanboys that is just a fact.

Such is life.

but calling some of your members "tin foil hat" wearers is ok because???

Well no apparently being "rather shilling" is perfectly fine, it is identifying them that is bad.  Well I guess ignorance is bliss that is why everyone is so happy around here.  Mum's the word everything is great!  Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?

yes but it is also quite obvious who he is calling the person a "tin foil hat" wearer. it is quite obvious that he does this to ridicule them just enough where other people will believe like sheep. you see i didnt actually call any specific person a sheep so it is ok. yet it  is quite obvious who i am referring too. those people i am referring to know im talking about them too so in reality they do feel insulted regardless of whether i said their name. so you either dont insult any one person or even a group of people for that matter because in the end someone ends up feeling a bit hurt. which is still considered online bullying even if the comment was so miniscule.

Look hypothetically if I were a different person I might call a certain person who will remain nameless a worthless BS artist who would suck the collective phalus of funcom at the drop of a hat and seem to have a voracious hunger for said phalus.

But I am not that sort of person and this was really purely hypothetical so it never really happened anyway

Plus i never named any names so its perfectly fine.

Its kind of like that.  See its all good.
