Who can actually believe not having an official forum is a good idea, that is basically saying we dont want to interact with our community directly, we dont want to hear your input, nor do we want to discuss your grievances.
The only other MMo that doesnt have an official forum is FF11, and all those things are very much apperent, there is little to no player input when it comes to content or changes.

So I guess the constant talks we have with the Dev's over on WarhammerAlliance are just a bit suck this we don't wanna talk to you move...honestly atleast know what your talking about.
It doesnt' dilute the community it allows the community to actually productively work together instead of sitting around and QQing, Whining & Flaming. If you dont like the community one 1 fansite you can easily move to another until you find yourself a niche thats the whole point.
Anyone who's not familiar with DAoC I can understand their hestiation about a game NOT having a forum. Only Vanguard tried and failed and that was do to them using it as PR gimmick and not being serious. Mythic is serious..you see this in their constant communication over on VN & WarhammerAlliance. THey dont have to come onto players threads and speak but they do and its great.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
thats just laziness, not wanting to deal with the stuff that happens on forums
I'd rather have the resources put elsewhere. From the looks of it, the game is going to launch with something similar to WoWarmory but MUCH better and with more content. I'd rather that than an "Official" forum. They post on Warhammer Alliance anyways.

You miss the point. In WA forums, you have to be *constructive*. You can't just be pissed off and complain because you are paying a product and you have been ripped off. No. Because WA hasn't sold you the product, they are just a fan site. If you are not *constructive*, you are baned. Problem solved, Mythic can relax behind the lines and just keep posting for the WAR fanatics while the rest is conveniently silenced. This is the deal. And you better love everything about WAR because if you don't, you won't have a voice. You will have to be *constructive* and kiss everybody's ass. The guys at Mythic are very intelligent.
Same person that believes having 2 cities instead of 6 is "great", that believes MJ is "great", that believes WAR will be "great". You have faith or you don't. If you have faith, you believe. Everything.
This issue has nothing to do with faith because it has been done before and worked out great.
I personally didn't mind them not having one for DAOC. Most of the people communicated through their own guild sites anyways because to keep the flow of info the enemy down to a minimum.
I am so happy you are on here to be pestimistc about WAR. Honestly you have the right to be considering the MMO's released lately.
However, its darn funny how you continually rip on WAR yet promote games that aren't even in alpha yet. Why if your not interested in the game just please stay off the WAR boards.
Who can actually believe not having an official forum is a good idea, that is basically saying we dont want to interact with our community directly, we dont want to hear your input, nor do we want to discuss your grievances.

I think one of my first posts ever on mmorpg was a very long ocomplaint about the lack of official forum. Since than I have had terrible experiences on fansites, validating everything I ever feared.
This is just going to be one of those things that people will later see as a very bad idea. The rest of the game could be 100% perfect, and this would still stick out like a sore thumb.

Don't need faith when you have experience.
If anyone believes that just because a company has game forums for their games that it means they are paying attention, interacting, or listening to your grievances then your 100% wrong with your head in the sand.
Just because some mod that may or may not know about the game tells you he is passing the info to the devs doesn't mean it makes it there. SWG was the same way, WoW was the same unless you hijacked an entire forum and even then it almost never happened.
You will find all the information you ever wanted on the big WAR fansites and probably a lot less noise to info. Announcements will be made VIA the herald. Whats the problem? You need official boards to troll? If you want the devs to hear you the BEST way to do it is to post in a respectable thread on a fansite with a well fleshed out post.

You can be constructive and pissed off at the same time. I would reccommend finding a critical thinking and writing guide.

Sorry I'm not paying so the Dev's can create a forums so a bunch of cry babies can go yell. From what I see plenty of people complain on WA and never get in trouble its the people with the inability to be mature when they whine & qq that get the boot.

Announcements will be made VIA the herald. Whats the problem? You need official boards to troll? If you want the devs to hear you the BEST way to do it is to post in a respectable thread on a fansite with a well fleshed out post.
Boiling this down:
Best way to get ahold of the devs attention is through an unofficial third party site by posting exactly what you would on the official site.
Oh by the way, there is less player and community collaboration as there is no real center for them to congregate, so by default there will never be as much hard numbers or info to assess and compile.
Ridiculous.

OMG, you really think blizzard goes on their own forums, looks and says , "everyone in the class forums is yelling about dying too quickly, maybe we should do something about that?"
You think ANY company does that? Game makers makes their decisions on tester feedback, having devs actually playing the game, and data they can pull from the servers.
I think one of my first posts ever on mmorpg was a very long ocomplaint about the lack of official forum. Since than I have had terrible experiences on fansites, validating everything I ever feared.

People act like an official forum is a red phone to God.
If Devs post on a regular basis and I have seen them respond to criticism in a professional way, don't ask me to back that up because frankly this argument isn't interesting enough to do so, what is the big deal? Nothing is perfect, get used to it; what a pathetic cliché I know.

If your counting MMORPG.com as a fan experience then you need to check your head...MMORPG.com is the biggest flame troll whiner forum on earth. Not that some valid & helpful information isn't available but alot of the earth's biggest cry babies worship this place.
If your poor experiences were elsewhere did you ever think to check your attitude? I've never had any problems at any of the fansites I've gone too. If your first post is nothing but a whine / complaint thread it doesn't matter where you go you'll get treated with a beating. Especially if you bring up the forum board subject since its ancient news & most people don't care seeing as they're familiar with Mythic.
Gazenthia
To behonest your issue is narrow mindedness and the inability to accept the FACT that this has already been done, that its currently working, and that it currently worked with DAoC. You live in some dream lala land that Official Forum boards matter which is sad. If all the information like server status and rankings etc are on the herald why do we need boards? If the devs are active on community boards why do we need official boards where we have to deal with a third party instead of the devs?
If you hate it so much and don't seem to grasp the concept of community building instead of community POLICING then maybe you should stay with WoW. I've never seen anything good come out of their boards as far as community. Your voice is essentially lost in the blackness of space there..so go enjoy it.

Yes, that has been proven.
You think ANY company does that? Game makers makes their decisions on tester feedback, having devs actually playing the game, and data they can pull from the servers.
Even FunCom does that, remember the response to the "censorship" fiasco?
Blizzard also reacted purely to forum feedback with regards to the NPC vulnerability near the retail release, and later with the warlock lifetap adjustments.
There are also a lot of other things that other companies have done.
Sorry.

Since when do the actual DEVS jump onto the forums. Its usually the CM's on their trying to "pass on" info if anything.
Wow forums are a maess. Hardly any moderating goes on. And the thread that do get moderated are the ones that blast blizzard, a CM, or a DEV. You people need to wake up. Your so busy trying to tie a Mythic conspiracy to this "no offical forums" garabge that you can't even see the fact that offical forums are not even used by other game companies. Their cover from all the BS throwed around.

I have no idea what Blizzard or other companies do. What I know is what they should do. They should have their own forums and listen to the people that have spent money in their game, in one centralized official forum where all the opinions can be easily followed without interferences.

Funcom as responded to censorship? ROFL ... omg what planet are you on ...they're still having ISSUES with censorship, rudeness and unprofessionalism on their boards. Not to mention their version of patches is to break 100 things in order to stick clothes on some NPC's then waste time taking them back off. Funcom's ability to communicate is so piss poor that only the most obsessed fanboys have anything nice to say about them.
Blizzard reacts yes to the forumb oards...and hence the constant "flavor of the day" class balance. They rarely actually TALK or interact with the community. The only people you see are MODS. How the hell you can find anything in that sea of screams is beyond me.
Honestly atleast nwo i see why your experience on fan sites is so pisspoor...you're blind.

I wasn't talking about mmorpg.com as its actually a lot better than some of the WAR fansites.
I had posted fairly regularly at one of the fansites, and noticed that something was very seriously wrong. My low opinion of the community and the way the website was run finally bottomed out when one of the EA representatives called all of the people who were worried about the game trolls. I had a real problem with that, posted my not-flaming not-insulting dissent, and got reprimanded for disagreeing with him.
That is exactly what happened.
Man I even had other people go over me to read the thread and my response to see if I really was in the wrong, and everyone one of them said that I was actually really nice about what happened, and advised me to cancel.

-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

Sounds like you went to this one particular fansite that everyone months ago flamed for its heavy handed you must kiss ass attitude I can't remember the name but I feel you on that one. Look you can't expect every fansite or forum to ever be the same. But you have to admit official forums are nothing but giant QQ forums. Tehy're a waste when the best information is always outside the game.

Have you been to any of the WAR fansites? For only 2 days the fansites erupted about the CE and SE debacle and MJ responded quickly and efficiently.
Questions about OB starting very soon was swirling. 2 days into that MJ squashed every single rumor that was spoken in those forums.
I could go on..
If you really think that Mythic isn't putting an offical forums in place becuase they don't want bad PR on thier site or they can't afford it, your sadly mistaken.
In interviews and in official responses. The one that immediately leaps to mind is the controversial paladin interview that was before BC released.
Ah, so blizzard or funcom says they are watching the forums it must be true.
Saying?
They are.
The town NPC issue that occurred after release, the warlock life-tap debacle, and assorted other things were told to Blizzard exclusively through forums and reacted on. I mean how else do you want to explain that?
FunCom, before the censorship was heavy-handed, did respond once in a while on and even acted on (admittedly small) issues. But, haha, I guess censorship goes to show that they are watching the forums :X
Unlike Mythic who is the evil empire from hell that lies with every word it speaks. My bad....
And this is unnecessary. I never said such things, never even implied them, nor believe it.
Last I checked, we were talking about official forums and their purposes.
I have proven that official forums have been used to great and real affect by the company, and by their respective communities. That they can is enough, just how well other companies have used them is actually irrelevant. Slandering me isn't a good or civilized retort.

Don't get me started on MJ... Anyway I was talking on how the information travels from costumer to developer, not the other way around. It's true he was quick, although maybe he should have taken some time to rethink the way he adresses the community, but that's another problem.

Only Vanguard tried and failed and that was do to them using it as PR gimmick and not being serious. Mythic is serious..you see this in their constant communication over on VN & WarhammerAlliance. THey dont have to come onto players threads and speak but they do and its great.

Same person that believes having 2 cities instead of 6 is "great", that believes MJ is "great", that believes WAR will be "great". You have faith or you don't. If you have faith, you believe. Everything.
So I guess the constant talks we have with the Dev's over on WarhammerAlliance are just a bit suck this we don't wanna talk to you move...honestly atleast know what your talking about.

Get your tinfoil hat!

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
So far my experience has been exactly that. Even AoC manages that.
I see a lot of people rip on the WoW forums. The reality is that the Dev team really did read the forums for themselves and responded, time and again. Thing is that not everyone and their uncle agreed with the responses.WRONG

Ah, so blizzard or funcom says they are watching the forums it must be true. Unlike Mythic who is the evil empire from hell that lies with every word it speaks. My bad....

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven.

I have to totally disagree mmorpg.com sucks eggs I only come here because I can and every so often i like giving the finger to people who can't read & comprehend english despite being native english speakers.

Saying?
And this is unnecessary. I never said such things, never even implied them, nor believe it.Last I checked, we were talking about official forums and their purposes.
I have proven that official forums have been used to great and real affect by the company, and by their respective communities. That they can is enough, just how well other companies have used them is actually irrelevant. Slandering me isn't a good or civilized retort.
It was Warhammer alliance.

Don't get me started on MJ... Anyway I was talking on how the information travels from costumer to developer, not the other way around. It's true he was quick, although maybe he should have taken some time to rethink the way he adresses the community, but that's another problem.
