Well, the day has finally come. Instead of hearing about a launch date of "Fall, 2008" we now know that Mythic Entertainment's Warhammer Online will launch on September 18th.
FAIRFAX, Va. - Hot on the heels of spectacular showings at E3 and Comic-Con, Mythic Entertainment, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) studio, today announced that fans will be able to enter the gritty fantasy world of Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning™ (WAR) on September 18th, 2008 when the highly-anticipated MMORPG goes live. After three years in development by Virginia-based Mythic Entertainment, WAR will open its North American, European and Oceanic servers and offer players a variety of flexible subscription options. Gamers who pre-order WAR in North American will enjoy special benefits including open beta admission, a live game head start, and bonus in-game items.
Based on Games Workshop’s epic and longstanding tabletop fantasy war game, WAR is a unique MMORPG that features revolutionary Realm vs. Realm™ (RvR) gameplay that will immerse players in a world of perpetual conflict for years to come. WAR has been recognized for its unique play style that appeals to novice MMO players while offering incredible depth for more seasoned players.
Consumer demand for WAR is mounting with all units of the game’s Collector’s Edition having been pre-sold in North America. In addition, the title is receiving significant media attention, picking up numerous critic awards at this year’s E3, including “Best PC Game” from G4’s XPlay, “Best MMO” from IGN and Voodoo Extreme, and “Top 10 PC Game” from Gamespy, as well as being nominated for the prestigious Game Critic’s Awards “Best PC Game”.
“The countdown has officially begun. Mark your calendars! September 18th is the Day of Reckoning,” said Mark Jacobs, founder and general manager of Mythic Entertainment. “For the last three years, the entire team at Mythic has poured their hearts into making Warhammer Online the next great MMORPG. We are so excited to open up this world and share it with the fans that will live in it, quest in it, go to war in it and make it come alive.”
Fans looking forward to laying siege to their enemy’s capital city will have several pricing options available, beginning with a $14.99 monthly subscription. Additionally, collectible 30- and 60-day prepaid Game Time™ Cards will be available at many game retailers. WAR subscription options include:
- Monthly Subscription: $14.99 USD
- 3-Month Subscription: $41.97 ($13.99 per month)
- 6-Month Subscription: $77.94 ($12.99 per month)
Players can now pre-order their copy of WAR to secure their spots on the frontlines with a special pre-order package that includes:

Wow, I'm surprised. I expected a much later launch date.
I'm guessing open beta is just a thing of the past....

Dude. It's August 6th. You want a month long Open Beta? No, but you'll get at least a 2 week long one.
--------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.

Game.co.uk have moved their launch date to "september" but no date so they are not going to commit when the EU launch will be happening.
How is it a "thing of the past" when it's only been the fade for the past few years. For the first 5 years of MMO history Beta was a sacred and honored thing. Now a days the avgerage shmoe expect to get into beta and get pissed when they don't. I never understood Open Betas anyway, the idea of a beta test is to bring people that can help make the game better. John Q Jackoff can't even remotly help make the game better and in all honesty just wants free game time.
and there you have the reason for the cuts to the game
a rock solid, too early launch date

Wow. They're really going for the jugular. At least Funcom tried to get us interested by allowing us to see early game (just not the less impressive parts). Mythic makes you commit before giving a whiff. Shows they have great confidence in their product. If you've learned anything from the past or have any intelligence at all you'll avoid this game like the plague until at least a week worth of player reviews immerge.
No free previews for Greymann awwww! Obviously only letting people who are interested in and CARE enough about the game to pre-order it actually test it to make it better is 100% wrong. We should get random hippies to do it because they'll do a much better job.

Lol, don t worry ascension, he ll be the one missing out. It s been said for a very long time that it won t be a anyone with an internet connection can get into OB. Now you bring this up, lol. Oh well soon enough people will hear all they need to hear and judge from that. I can assure you more will be happy with what they hear then won't.
I personally hope it's a short open beta, no more than a week long. Open betas have turned into "taste testings," so much more time than that isn't needed to taste it; on the developers side, they get an idea of what a fuller load will be like. But all of the final things should be the focus, not on prolonging the early experience.
Are you a bitter game dev or something? You just revealed your total unprovoked disdain for players. You'd rather players buy blindly falling for hype and become jaded at the industry. Hail to the corporation! Any dev confident in their product will release a demo or in a mmo's case an open beta. Open betas only hype a game more if it's worth crap. Bad games suffer. It doesn't get any simpler then that.
As a beta tester, I am counting the days until I can play the release. The early start can't start early enough for me!
Take that for what it's worth.
Care about the game? Neither fanboys nor mythic have given anyone outside the beta much to care about. It's a win win for me. If it turns out to be great I'll be there. If not, at least I didn't commit prematurely. Oh poor neglected greymann didn't get in in open beta and that first week of launch. I smell fanboy fear big time on this one. Hope some people don't have to change their avatars soon.

The thing is that i stated earlier, is this has been common knowledge for quite some time now. Bringing this up is redundant. If you think Mythic hasn t been open on info and given people things to care about, you re either blind or living under a rock.
I'm sure somewhere that sentence makes sense.
With that. I have been ready to test this game for years now. I am one of the 787,000 people that signed up for beta.
Buys game. Plays game. Moans. "You've been Mythtified!"
Woohoo! Now I can plan a vacation week around the launch. Seriously though, I wish they would give a concrete date for the OB. 1 Week before, 2 weeks. The sooner the better. Not knowing is a bit like a Christmas where you have no idea of what (if any) gifts you are going to find.
edit: On another post I found some OB info though the 15th won't likely be the actual beta. Just the file downloads and registration. See below.

Finally a real release date! Can't wait!

Caring... lol
NICE i have ben waiting like 4 ever... i do wonder is it going to lag when ca 400 000 CE players will star ther download of the game att th 15 of agust...
I can almost taste the blades of war
That's sooner than I thought, I still think it needs atleast 2 months of polishing and fixing... they must be planning on releasing a couple of patches before release.
Greymann to be honest with you, if you want an open open beta then you need to look at another genre because MMO's just aren't doing them anymore. Quit your QQ'ing and find another game to troll just because you didn't get to play the game. What is the point of your posts to begin with? They made a release date and your bitching about it? Seriously, find reason in your post and then come back, also whining about the open beta is pointless when your obviously not interested in the game.
Playing: Nada.
Played: WAR, LOTRO, EVE, WoW, EQ2, SWG, STO
Waiting: TOR
I have a quick question. I will be living in England when the game is released but will still be in the U.S. during beta. Will I be able to preorder a copy in the states for purpose of participating in open beta and use that same copy when I am in England to play the game? Or, will I have to buy a special region specific european version?
Thanks!

Right, you just want to get in the game for a free trial, a little preview to see if you like it, not to test. The game's better off without you so stop your bitching. "Oh but I will test you don't know what I'll do!!" I hope you don't come up with that kind of response, haha. You've already showed that you think beta should be a marketing tool more than a development tool.
